Every time I watch a video of yours, or Ian's I can't help but think, "Damn, this shit's easy as fuck! why don't I already know this!?" And it's so true, y'all make learning these concepts SO simple, and cohesive in the context of more of a class (Watching every vid as it comes out, or marathoning vids), AND in the context of just one-offs! It's amazing!

I've been playing guitar over 20 years and didn't know what a double stop was until I watched this. Though I have been quite familiar with Sean's version of the double stop since high school, except I've always known it as the "creep her out unintentionally" move lol

You should do a joint channel for this stuff. Works really well when you tag team the info. Think it would be a major RU-vid success. I watch a lot of this shit and your stuff is by far the best already.

Thanks to both of you. I spent a significant amount of time today playing to backing tracks without having to spend so much time and effort moving from one "box" or the other depending on which of the I, IV, V chords the backing track was on. I stayed in the key and worked more on landing on the correct notes. Freed me up alot. Obviously I want to learn and move between the various boxes but you gave me the freedom to learn notes (fretboard) while improvising and having fun. Much more productive on several levels. Thanks

When you're playing the 4 double stops in succession, are you following notes of E minor pentatonic or are you picking notes from specific chords you want to play?

Which scale notes are you turning into double stops?
@seandaniel23
@seandaniel23 8 лет назад
It's actually not from a scale perspective, it's from a chord voicing perspective. So an E7 has 4 notes (E - G# - B - D) and these stops are taking directly from the chord. Hope that makes sense!

I really don't get everyone using fret numbers. When talking about scale degrees or chord vocings it is so much simpler to use the Nashville numbering system. It's not that hard. Make this standard. It would make this so much better.

@mikesharpsongs

So, what IS a "double stop"? Fail. You initially define it as two notes played at one time(followed by a bunch of jibberish about chord voicings), and then you give examples in which you do not play two notes at one time. Perhaps just show various examples of what it is right from the get go? Or, at least use working definitions. I am no less confused by the end of your video.

No where do you show how to pick double stops, especially perplexing when they're not adjacent strings. Sean, I gotta say, the lessons you do with Stich are so disjointed compared with your own lessons. His intentions are good, but his instruction leaves me cold and generally confused.
@ronlight7013
@ronlight7013 7 лет назад
That's helpful context to know, so thanks. To the degree you can set the stage (with context) and connect the dots (with logical, linear explanation) the more useful the demonstration. Not being able to see the picking hand deprives me of information I need to know to understand the lesson. So, the video may be "strong" by your own standards (which is fine), but as a student of guitar I can say it leaves me with a few significant unmet needs. Thanks for responding.
