I had decided to wear high wedges for My wedding but they were so heavy that when trying to walk in a small stair ( to see if it would Work) I slipped and landed in a painful heap with a twisted ankle at the bottom , needless to say I changed shoes to extra cushioned low healed with a small plattform sandals which I had worn before to the actual wedding . And also changed shoes a lot to the dinner etc ( even though I was mostly sitting)

lol. my grandfather, whose nickname was Injun Jim, referred to himself as a proud, badass Indian. His father was 100% Cherokee. I wish certain people would stop actively searching for something they can be offended by.

Jennifer Thibodeau. I attended a beautiful Native American Festival in Santa Fe, NM last year, and all the different tribes were proud to talk about the "Indian Culture"... no one was calling it Native American Culture. They presented all of their amazing costumes.... a wonderful experience.

I'm a senior Euro-American living on the US east coast who has for decades supported indigenous rights and other causes of social justice. I think JL has shown time and again in her choice of subjects, models, and general commentary that she has an exemplary commitment to diversity as central to creating and maintaining conditions of social, political, and economic justice. Because I thought she and followers would want to know, I was going to try to raise her consciousness, as my own was raised by indigenous activists, about the history of the use of the term "redskin," beginning with the bounty paid by early colonial governments to European settlers who showed pieces of skin as proof of helping to carry out legally sanctioned genocide, the chief means of securing land on the ever-expanding colonial frontiers. I don't know what the tone of the responses to JL's use of the term was, since I haven't seen them. I would be sorry if they were condemnatory, since we are all works in process in learning about and respecting others in a world divided by race, ethnicity, class, faith, gender, gender orientation, etc. I feel hugely grateful to those, usually people of color or poor whites, who over the decades have addressed my own offenses born of ignorance. I hope that in your remarks you are not denying that many indigenous people would think the use of conventionally derogatory terms is of considerable consequence. We act on our thoughts, and our thoughts rest on our perceptions. Fascism is on the rise globally as economic conditions deteriorate, and ignorant, frightened people will band together for survival of the basis of dangerous ideas about their particular group's biological, mental, and moral superiority, if progressive people do not challenge their rationales.

@@starrbowie8649 I understand your point, but honestly when I compare what my grandfather went through as a mixed race kid born in 1927 in a tar paper shack in and industrial area of Peoria whose mother would go on to be sterilized by Indiana for being on welfare after her husband was incarcerated. His brother was taken by the state to be adopted out because he was white passing. I feel pretty blessed that my worst problem has ever been a few verbal insults and two physical altercations.

Lots of farmers still wear them because they are warm but not too hot and protect your feet when you work with machinery. I've even seen one ride a bike while wearing wooden shoes…

In my country espadrilles are called Alpargatas (a brand) and are not fashionable because they are associated with gauchos and low class workers. Some brands produced luxury espadrilles, but apart from a fad in the 80s they were never fashionable again

I noticed that too. I'm sure she didn't mean to suggest that the shoe types she covered were a comprehensive list but the D'Orsay style always reminds me of Marie Antoinette for some reason, although I don't think they were created until just after the Revolution.

Those are my favourite! She also missed brogues, and some other styles of boots that I cannot mention hence why I watched the video haha, I think she should make a part 2 with more 'obscure' and specific shoes

Irene Mueller In New Zealand we call them Jandals and not a single person doesn't own a pair.

In the US jandals (at least among teenage girls) refers to a specific brand of slippers (that are ridiculously comfortable).

seriously why does the world always hate on our flip flops? it's our culture! we live at the beach and only wear actual shoes while exercising, at church, or if it's raining

@@mroxannevh "our cuture" funny because flip flops originate from Asia LOL. And they have been rpoven to be extremely bad for joints and the feet because your toes have to crawl all the time in them.

I would love to visit California and also seems like a cool place to live, but even if I did I would always look like a tourist no matter what. I refuse to accept those options for everyday wear haha. To me they're like crocs, comfy but only acceptable around the house/gym/pool. So many beautiful, breathable, comfy sandals out there.

In England babies wear booties and ladies wear ankle boots.

+Arianna Danesi hey, well... One of the methods to innovate in fashion is to take something and use it for something else or in another situation. For example take slippers and use them somewhere else. It can be fun on the runway - but it doesn't always turn out well commercially later ;-) There are cases where the "innovation" just doesn't get accepted because the image of the object is just too strong ("slippers = home shoes"). I definitely get your point for Italy. But hey, there are countries in other regions of the world where everybody wears "slippers" on the street ;-)
