I wish DNA testing had been around 60 years ago. My brother told me recently that our Dad didn't think he was his and used to beat him because of it. We have both done our DNA testing and we are full siblings. Sad.

So I think my having a DNA test done proved a theory in my ex's family. After my now ex filed for divorce, I wanted to give my kids something tangible that we were a part of each other, so I got DNA tests for all of us. My ex had talked about it off and on for years, and had told me that her siblings said their mother cheated, she was the product of that, and why their father left. She refused to do her test, while the kids and I did ours. I never had any doubts about them being mine, and the results there were unsurprising. However, there were no hits on her distinct maiden name, and less surprisingly none of the supposed native blood claimed by her mother.

Baltic typically means Lithuanian, and Lithuania historically had a commonwealth with Poland. This means there may still be a chance she is the bio mom.

We always joke that my youngest brother is adopted or my mother knocked up a Swedish backpacker, as he has blonde hair and green eyes while everyone else has brown or black hair and brown or blue eyes. We’ve done a DNA test, he is our biological brother, it’s just a recessive gene. My mother also had a similar story to number four. My grandmother had a child out of wedlock, and because she was in a very religious family she had to be sent away and raised by someone else. My mother was 17 before she found out she had a sister.

Why just a swedish backpacker. The sterotype of swedes is blond hair and blue eye

Nothing scandalous for my family, but something really funny. For two or three generations we were told a certain male ancestor was Native American. DNA results show no Native American, but do show African. Considering when and where we grew up the deception makes sense.

People would claim to be Native American so that they could marry. Blacks and whites both did this. Blacks and whites were not allowed to marry legally however they could marry any other race of people

Yep, mom may not be confessing the truth because the truth is she was not a willing participant. It's not anything but love withholding this information.

I just love the ones where it ended well. I've got 2 sisters that gave up their child. I'm waiting for that call ❤

19:15 I cannot understand why people try to keep there kids from knowing there adopted. Is it they think there kids won't talk to them anymore because they aren't related? Because if my parents told me I was adopted, I would love them more for taking me in when they had no reason to other than they wanted me, after my biological parents abandoned me. THEY are my real parents, the ones that gave birth to me would only be my biological.

My husband discovered he had an older brother through Ancestry. This lovely man was born in February and my husbands oldest full brother who was born in September. The connected through my daughter and his sister who both did Ancestry. My brother in law had found 3 siblings he knew nothing about in the past few years. Life has a way of surprising us when we least expect it.

Not related to DNA testing, but similiar topic I guess, not about myself but a friend. Recently found out that when my friend was pregnant with her younger daughter, apparently friend found out that baby's father had a different dad than his siblings. Not a huge thing in itself. It got weird when apparently his mom told my friend basically in secret because of genetics and stuff. Ya know, typical just medical history stuff that one would potentially ask/want to know when having a baby. Just was weird to me that like....... he was clearly grown at that point. Whether it's what I would do or not, I can understand when he was a kid. Why make a big deal of it if bio dad didn't want anything to do with him, and step dad apparently legally adopted him? Kinda seems like a need to know thing for an adult. Had a second one hit while I was typing this. My cousin had a baby whrn she was fourteenish. My aunt and uncle adopted the baby. Because im weird lol and because I was, like, ten, I remember asking my step mom if my aunt and uncle were ever gonna tell her she was adopted. My step mom said no they wouldnt/couldn't, but don't remember if/what reason I was told. Here's where it got tricky in my mind, keeping in mind, again, I was pretty little and also had asked when my cousin was still pregnant. Features wise, she clearly looked like she was related to my cousin, cousins sister, and in particular my aunt. Could have potentially chauked it up to being a slightly later in life baby that was a result of my uncle being my aunts second marriage (they did in fact go on to have their own baby). Catch is, the child is clearly biracial. Literally everybody involved in all the families (my family, my aunts family, cousins bio dads family) is very white. As in like, half the family is blue eyed, blonde haired, even those with darker hair/eyes are very pale. Theres little no combination of any of our families that would lead to a biracial child, without help from an outside person/fertility treatments. To this day, not sure if she knows the circumstances of her birth and/or had questioned why she looks so much like her family with the exception of skin color.

I always wondered why my grandmother was so calm about my sister's relationship with her boyfriend. I mentioned once that I wondered why my grandparents never celebrated their golden wedding. My mother said, casually, "Well, it was only six weeks before my 50th birthday." That was in 1921.

@Empresski12 means Nana was nearly 8 months pregnant when they got married. My grandfather was quite a lad. He tried to join the Army when World War 1 broke out, and managed to get as far as basic training before they discovered he was only 15.

My dad knocked up several women and when I was a freshman in high school I found out that I had an older half sister in California- she'd done a DNA test. She's living in Massachusetts now, studying filmmaking. Really cool person.

Story 8, yes Italian was used to cover light skinned blacks during segregation and slavery. But it was a protection and survival mode for them and their kids/families. Many passed for white also.

16:15 My father had a somewhat reverse of this, He’s of Italian ancestry, and he was often mistaken for being half black-half white. I’ve inherited a lot of his traits, and I’ve been mistake for Hispanic, Native, Middle Eastern, you name it.

I was the dark secret. My male genetic donor left my female genetic donor for another woman who already had a child, that other woman gave him the choice of me or her daughter and he choose her daughter. A girl got in contact with me that she is my sister. We talked for a while and before we hung up I told her it was nice to meet her but I would much rather not talk to her again.

I’ve never found any big surprises. Some interesting stuff but no surprises. My aunt had two kids out of wedlock. She gave one away and kept the other one but never revealed the father, even to my cousin. Still hoping to find my unknown cousin.

5:39 "My brother's legally my uncle" the only way I can see it possible is that OP's mom and the mom's dad have had 🔞 and OP's brother was born, it being intentional or due to SA that's the only thing I can imagine make "sense"

I didn't do a DNA test but was tracing our ancestry. I found a marriage of my granddad. We knew gran wasn't his 1st. But we have now found 2 previous marriages We also learnt of a son he had and he was very close to the family. Only he and my dad knew they were half-brothers. This man died last year. To me the math wasn't mathing. I spoke to 2 cousins and their math wasn't mathing either. Cos this man was little over a year older than my dad would have been. Afaik,my dad was the 2nd kid. There was a baby girl that died before my dad .... So uncle was from an affair granddad had.

I did a DNA test that confirmed my parentage on both sides. My Dad passed about 25 years ago and my Mom is 92 in a nursing home. So, a few years ago, I found out that I have a younger half-brother. I guess Dad messed around. I never knew. Did Dad know he had another son? Does Mom know or would she remember? My half brother grew up believing that his parents were his birth parents. We were both surprised by the DNA results. Could there be a mistake?

Never done a dna my oldest sister is my half sister, she’s a redhead brown eyes, the me medium dark hair blue eyes , next light brown hair brown eyes, next blonde brown eyes, next darker blond brown eyes, next dark brown hair brown eyes tis weird, the blond one doesn’t really share many facial features as the rest of us. We told her it was the milkman or mailman who was her father. She looked exactly like our paternal great grandmother. Most everyone who have brown eyes it’s lighter brown or hazel.
