What Being an Alcoholic Felt Like & How Quitting Alcohol Saved My Life
Jungian Psychology 101: • Carl Jung Psychology [...
I explain what it was like being "overly enthusiastic" to alcohol in Australian culture, and how it lead me to a dark road where I lost my soul to the "alcohol spirit". Drinking alcohol was a serious substance addiction that caused my mental health to rapidly decline until I hit rock bottom. Ever since I quit alcohol, my life has improved exponentially, and today I do not take any recreational drugs, and I have never been happier and fulfilled.

Alcohol is a not a drug, it's a delicious beverage mate! Obviously I'm joking, my relationship with alcohol almost ruined my life. Similar story to yours mate, I went travelling when I was 21 years old and ended up drinking every single night for about a year. My body got so used to alcohol that I would get sick if I didn't drink anything. At my worst, I was blacking out almost every single night, it was terrible. Luckily I got through that awful stage though, and now like you I rarely even drink. Psychedelics were a big wake up call for me.

In Alchemy, Ethyl Alcohol is the universal solvent. It dissolves almost everything. In spagyrics (plant alchemy) you use alcohol to extract the "soul" of a plant,in the form of its essential oils. So when humans drink alcohol, it begins to remove the soul part of you,and when people have those psychotic and violent episodes on alcohol, it's because it's removed the conscious part of you,and you start running on instinct and reptiallian brain stem thoughts lol

Very often one's spiritual journey starts with addiction and substance abuse. You use all sorts of things that give you a dopamine kick, so you can feel good and finally, if you're lucky, you come to the conclusion that it doesn't really work and does more harm than good. Then you can start the quest for what is missing and you look for it in the only place it can be found, and that is within. One day you reach a point in which all the horrible things in your life turn from being a curse into a blessing and you start to feel grateful for all this shit that happened, because without it, you probably wouldn't become who you are today.

@Multorum Unum The fact that you are watching such videos on you tube, means that you are already doing the work to solve the problem. And since you're looking for solutions, that means you will find them. You are a human being capable of self-reflection, so you already have the necessary tools. I'm just here to tell you that it can be done. If I could do it, so can you.

Bloody beautiful mate I also felt like this when I started smoking a lot of weed and then started drinking a lot of alcohol, a lot of it just becomes trying to ONCE AGAIN reach that amazing feeling that you had for a few hours a while ago when usage started becoming really fun, but it’s always a cycle of trying to reach that point again... which you never really do. Once in a while you’ll go a little OVER how much fun you first remembered, then you realise your habits have just grown worse and deeper, and this is about the time that the lucky ones begin to realise the downfall of it all.

My father is also an alcoholic, so I know what it's like. The sad truth is that you can't help someone if they don't want to help themselves. The best thing to do is to just accept it and love them without trying to change them.

@@liamc6385 I know it's painful, when you want to help him and feel hopeless, because your attempts to help fail, but as I said before, the only thing you can do in such situation is to try to accept it, so that you don't suffer so much yourself. Accepting things you can't change is one of the most difficult things to do, especially when it comes to loved ones, but sometimes it's the only thing you can do. We often struggle to change things in our own lives, so the idea that we can somehow help others with their problems is crazy. Ultimately we don't have control over other people's lives and decisions, so the best thing we can do is help them by being supportive, understanding and not being judgemental. I know that what I'm saying may sound harsh, but there are situations in life when suffering can't be avoided. Acceptance won't magically make it disappear, but it can bring you some peace and consolation. Thank you, I also wish the best of luck for you and your father.

Thank you for this video!! I'm 23 and developed a bad alcohol habit about 2 years ago. Partly due to the people I was surrounding myself with, they couldn't get together and do anything without having at least a few drinks and it was always hard for me to say no. Getting blackout drunk all weekend, every weekend SUCKS. Eventually it got to the point where like you, I was drinking alone a bit, the worst part of it all was how my old co-worker and I would see how drunk we could get at work together without anyone realizing. I've since distanced myself from pretty much all of those people and I haven't been drunk since May! I tried to have a drink a handful of times since then but every time I've tried, after one sip I realize this is something my body really does not want or need anymore! I actually feel I feel so great having removed alcohol from my life. I hope to continue this sobriety from alcohol for a very long time.

I agree with you, Tom. It's been almost a Year since I had my last sip and around 18 months since I last got full on Drunk, and I could only say this, that ever since I quit alcohol I have only felt more clear headed, more compassionate, more in tune with who I really am, more creative and more than that I felt as if I found a new connection with the spirit, Which I didn't have before due to being in a Lower Vibrational State of Being, partly due to alcohol I used in the last year of college. But, now that I look back I don't even want to touch it and I seriously don't judge people who do it because I have only learned one thing that "My consciousness has everything to do with me, and their consciousness has everything to do with them" and if they want to stay and be on yhe the lower planes of consciousness, then it's a choice that they have made and I can't do anything about it. Also, ever since I have quit alcohol, the people who I used to drink with including friends and family are like "what happend?" You can take a sip? Is it because of some girl? Why did you quit? And instead of explaining them the spiritual reasons and about consciousness, I am like, I just don't like it anymore. And they keep on asking.

Australia well where I am from it's not only so soically accepted but expected in some circles to drink not just a beer but insane amounts of "goon" and liquor. I'm an alcoholic and I drink every day you're considered a "weak C*nt/pussy" if you don't have a few and when it becomes a daily habbit out of control alot of your mates (friends) turn a blind eye and don't say anything. Australia's drinking culter is toxic we consome at least in top 50 of most alcohol in the world. It's the mentality.

A video on the pharmacology of alcohol would be super interesting! I'm struggling greatly with staying off alcohol at the moment. I'm 3 weeks off it at the moment but I'm 25 and live in Ireland meaning if you're not getting pissed your friends rarely even want you around so it's a tough situation, I'd also be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it though but the mental side effects of it just simply aren't worth it. I genuinely feel debilitatingly depressed and incredibly anxious for pretty much an entire week after drinking now and I just can't go on like that.

I had an accident with Zolpidem (Ambien) earlier this year, which led me to have some lingering side effects (not that wild but still noticeable). From what I can hear the brain plasticity actually works, in the sense that if you give yourself enough time to heal (without doing anything special) there's a chance to actually recover (literally at a physical level). Seeing how you went from the horrible side effects you used to experience in your alcoholic days, to now (it's evident you feel a lot better) gives me a bit of hope. It has only been six months since the incident, after all. I hope my brain will be able to recover.

Great talk Tom. I mean, I never drank more than weekly and my friends were all big drinkers so i didn't think my use was a problem for years. But i would binge drink most of the time, and yeah I've experienced the feeling of the switch being flipped. Thankfully not very often but emotionally i verbally went off at people or punched fences (urgh). And combining with drug use (acid, alcohol and benzos for example) was also part of the concerning and dangerous mix. After having a couple of sober month challenges, i realised how i could socialise without it. And this year, i may drink weekly (if that) but most of the time it's 1-2 drinks when i do, on rare occasions it'll be 4-5. And holy heck it's just so much better. I heard recently it's the tipsy, super early stages of intoxication with alcohol that are actually enjoyable on a chemical level but beyond that it becomes depressing. I'd be interested in the history and pharmacology of alcohol fo sure.

I think alcohol isn’t viewed as a drug because of the reasons you mentioned such as it being such a huge part of our culture etc, but it is also a “food” that the body recognizes and metabolizes. It’s only when you abuse it that your body becomes negatively affected by it, which in turn, becomes a poison.

Alcohol is just an artificial high that takes everything from you. I'm glad I don't have those thoughts 'you need a drink to function' . One was never enough and it was always striving for that end result until getting to that point one bottle wouldn't get you drunk anymore. Giving up the alcohol is the best decision you can make for your life. Everything like your dreams and goals are put on hold when your in that space. Big ups to all who are needing it you can do this 🤙♥️

for everyone who is still stuck in alcoholism and can't quit immediately: I have been getting drunk almost every day for 5 years straight and these are my honest best tips to not get a hangover and stay as healthy as possible: 1 - drink about 100-300 ml of water each hour in between your drinks, the higher the alcohol % in your drinks, the more water you'll need, since alcohol is incredibly dehydrating. 2 - before we go to bed: take 250-500mg mangesium plus 500 ml water, because alcohol is not only dehydrating, it also flushes out a lot of minerals as you go piss so often (mostly magnesium) 3 - have a bottle of water ready next to your bed when you sleep, you will wake up thirsty at times and be happy to have the bottle of water prepared! 4 - when you wake up, the first thing you should do is (again) have some water and take in some vitamins, salts, magnesium - prepare a great tasty meal :) 5 - (extra) visit your doctor on a regular basis and have your blood levels, kidney, liver, heart checked :) edit: 6 - don't worry about alcohol killing brain cells, since this is an old theory, it has been proven that brain cells only die if your organs start to degenerate (which can happen from anything that damages for example - your liver). So make sure that does not happen and have some detox phases in between :)

3 years sober now. Living in the Uk has a similar attitude towards alcohol. The level of withdrawals I felt by the end of my drinking days was like hell on earth. I was only 29 at the time and it goes to show that some of us just respond in weird ways to the addiction side of it. There were people that were drinking just as much as me (and still do) that don't wake up the next day uncontrollably shaking, on the verge of a panic attack constantly, hallucinating, insomnia so bad I'd be awake for days after a binge occasionally switching off for a few minutes of sleep paralysis or lucid nightmares - but for some reason, it happened to me. It's probably partly to do with genes and then also doing the old hair of the dog thing to ease my social anxiety from about 21 - that shit will speed up the process!
