you need to add jugs of sand to spread sand on the rails in front of the drive wheels. will give you way better traction. It's what we use on the rails in Canada when they are slick or frosty.
@Joseph Beckmann Its all good. I just found out about it myself a few months ago. But if this guy wanted to fast without flying off the rails, he needs guiding wheels underneath the rails and rubber tires on top. I know, doesn't look like there's room between the ground and rails. But then again, I can't say that idea looks awfully safe anyways. Lol
My dad and his buds used to let the air out of their tires and ride the rails through maine to beat traffic when heading to and from the military base (rails led to them) - vietnam era however but was still illegal (a laugh and slap on the wrist more than likely if caught)......... would certainly be arrested these days for sure.
It's extremely cool ;) Congrats guys. Probably it would be a good idea to use modified regular train wheels (like from bigger mine carts). It would be far more durable and reliable. Best wishes form Hungary;)
@@Hex-Mas why is that though? Not why as in a great why, like I know the gov't is fuckkkkked, but what are the actual laws and how do they justify such punishment?
@@solomonjenkins9505 Since 9/11, just being on the Right Of Way can get you jail time. In the US, they are private property even if they look abandoned. It is " rail banked " in railroad terms. Saves on taxes and preserves the right to use the ROW at some later date. Some titles to the land have reverter clauses in them that if a railroad pulls up the track, it goes back to the land owner of record.
Using better metals you can make some good wheels that will stay in place better. Also to prevent wheelslip (drift) you can add a sander that will sand the wheels and provide better grip! Good job guys!
You want a slope that comes from the wheel nut side and slopes down to the edge of rail. So basically the cone starts from the weel. You dont want a lip on the rail end. This allows the wheel to stay on the track as its self centering.
Funny to see how we all live differently in the world. Not putting your town down. But it looks like it’s still in the past . If that was here them tracks would of been pulled up years ago and be built on. They build on everything now they can.
Mid 80's Subarus, with white spoke "wagon wheels" (original equipment on some) reverse wheels on one side, cut off the roof, leave it in 2nd, add BBQ grill, party all day! 120 miles!!
It's good, but the curve of your rims (tire bead area) are primarily riding on the outside of the rails. The inner curve of the rims should ride the inside edge of the rails, instead of the outside curve of the rims riding on the outside edge of the rails. It would be MUCH more stable and ride on the track (and stay on the track) much better. Watch: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ku8BOBwD4hc.html
The USSR was evil and killed millions. The US isn't any better but it's a shame people who never experienced communism romanticize it while these people in Ukrane are still suffering its effects. Capitalism lifts humanity up; communism destroys any humanity.
@@ArcticProxy Actually, the reason why the main capitalism countries developed well is they colonialed many other countries of a hundred year,so that they could make the system runs.
American here. Great video. But I'd highly recommend taking a page from the Indian/Pan Asian rural folk and try finding some old train wheels. Or fashion your own if you have the tools.
For anybody wondering, Those rails were not in use and you can tell by the amount of rust on it, if it was being used by trains or trams then it would be silver and shiny and smoothe, but those rails have probably not been used in years
If you tried that in the US, even on abandoned rails, the railroad company will put you in jail and fine you 5,000. That’s just for walking on them. They would probably lock you up forever if you actually used the rails.
Well done guys,, very inventive,, l noticed the train tracks were wider than we have in New Zealand,, they used sand that was applied in a system in front of the drive wheel, eliminating slipping, and gave extra traction under load, well done guys,,
The video is good and the vehicle you have produced is top notch, this looks so interesting and fun that I subscribe. Now I am excited about what else you have done and what you are going to do next. Good luck in 2020 everyone in the team.
I wonder if you could weld actual train wheels on to the smaller rims. They are so heavy that maybe you could just press the gas and take a nap and it would stay on track the whole way.
I remember when I drove a vw beetle that was a ratrod, but still in the making. I got pulled over because "People were calling in saying there was a Vw going down the highway that looked like it blew up" Yep... Wow..
Really want to see a second attempt at this, find some old railroad wheels from a maintenance cart or something, and see if you can get it up to highway speed!
Bros' i am from montana usa, and i am a thrillbilly as well. I love it. I live on a Indian reservation n now i know what to do w all the tracks that run everywhere yet dont hook up to the mainlines anymore. I have some old American bigblock gas engines n some other crapware. I will update u. This will b epic
This could work a lot better with only a little more work. Some steel rings larger than what the wheel diameter currently is would keep it on the tracks. A bit of an old rubber tire attached to the inside, specially the drive wheels would give better traction. I bet most of you don't know that locomotives, even the old steam type, have tires on them. They are steel, but are still called tires. They were put on by heating them up and forcing them down over the main wheel. The main wheels were quite expensive to make, so they wanted to be able to use the less expensive pieces of steel to take the wear. In this case, rubber would work okay. Some of the actual type of service cars made for riding the rails have a rubber strip around the wheels. Here in the US, there are groups of people that own the old things, and get together to ride from point a to b and back again, they are designated as a train that way.
Dude be awesome to see your project get off the ground just by seeing by standards eye light up is like off the rails a very good tourist attraction once set up properly for sure.just for traction keep car wheels set up original and have rail wheels actuate out in front and in rear of car just an idea from how rail works in my country new Zealand have the same set up their work wagons thanks for the upload.
...here in this scrapyard we have both kinds of cars! ..(.lotsa Lada )... My little front wheel drive four on the floor stick Toyota Tercel would straddle the streetcar tracks here in Toronto just so. I could take my hands off the wheel and "drive the train" for hundreds of yards. Wheee!
