I had a high school friend with this nail condition and he said his fathers side had a genetic heart issue. His father, uncle and grandfather all had heart attacks before and he was sure he will get one. Now I know this is connected to his nail condition
We educate our citizens by making them take science classes in our primary/secondary schools and at universities. Yet, despite this emphasis on science, few can leverage that science to make their lives better in the area it matters the most - maintaining good health. From the standpoint of health, a few weeks worth of watching Dr. Berg's videos is worth more than years of science education from conventional schools and universities. While my K thru 12 as well as university exposure to biology, chemistry, geology, and physics was thoroughly enriching intellectually, I left academia with very little knowledge on how to be healthy, which is an area of scientific concern. The fact that most share the same crucial ignorance despite all the time and money spent on science education is a poor reflection on our education system.
@@nomanahmed733 absolutely sure ,around 6 months after supplementing to raise levels the change in nails was amazing ,it's taking over a year though to raise the iron to a level where it does quit dropping in which keeps happening when go off it.
I first noticed i had this condition when I was 20 years old and a doctor noticed it. At the time I had never noticed and it was shocking. A lot of people don't notice until someone points it out. However, 18 years later and it is still the same(though mine aren't as noticeable as the ones pictured on here). My doctor was really concerned about it at first, even did a chest ct scan, but now they seem to just think it is genetics.
In 2017 i came to know that i have clubbing of finger of 4th Grade It is noticable whenever I used to go somewhere people generally used to ask what happened to you finger. Mine finger has really grown big
Same with me. Once I went to a hospital for some other reason and all the doctors came to see my nails. They thought I have some problem did tests but found nothing. They said that they had never seen a case like this before.
Saw this condition in Micky Rokes's fingerer tips in his last boxing film? Was always intrigued as to why his fingers looked odd. Dig the diversity of your ideas, ideas, observations!! looking forward to all your input, Thank you for your continuing giving to the masses!.....
My daughter has had clubbing since birth. She is now 26. I never realized there may be an issue until after she grew up and now she isn't interested in getting checked out. Some of her issues may come from the fact I was homeless and malnourished while pregnant. I've thought maybe she has a mild genetic disorder since she also has cubitus valgus which causes numbness in her hands at times.
I have this condition rightnow since I was about 8-10 weeks pregnant. I am now 5mo Post partum and they still are like this. My doctor said during my visit that my cholesterol was a little high and she just recommended life style changes. But she never said that my cholesterol was the reason for my nails. I haven’t started eating healthier or exercising yet lol but im going back to get more testing done because its still a concern and i wanna make sure that something isn’t wrong.
@@Ravenouswomen thankyou! I still have more testing to get done but so far via my blood test it appears that my thyroid is not functioning properly. Still praying that it isn’t anything crazy/traumatic
Keto with IF is great and all but the problem is the Painful Constipation I get frequently. Senna doesn’t work that much on me anymore (I guess it’s habit-forming) so the energy from Keto won’t be much of use with a painful constipation
Lung cancer. My husbands nails start clubbing and sure enough, stage 4 lung cancer. 😞. Was too late to do anything. Thank you for your educational info Dr.Berg.
Yah I first came to be aware I had this when I was 20 in 2004. I was a smoker at the time, was recommended to have ct scan, had it followed up for five years nothing ever changed so I guess for me it was just a hereditary thing as they don't even seem to care when I bring it up at the doctor now. But yes it is a sign of lung cancer as well as many other conditions, or it just can happen for seemingly no reason( which I think is my case) to most people who get it. Sorry for your loss.
Hello Dr. Berg, I always follow you and I have benefited a lot from the important advice that you have provided to us. I have a problem with my weak memory. I cannot keep the information for a long time. I had This problem for many years, im 31 years please Dr. Berg helped me, really, I suffer a lot
Interesting!...my brother has this condition..who also has distended liver area and shoulder pain, so I'm thinking liver? Thank You Dr Berg, You are a blessing!
It can be and usually they will do scans. But for a lot of people it is just something that has no explanation. I've had them since 2004 and my doctor was concerned at first did a ct scan on lungs etc but they just shrug these days when I bring it up at the doctor. Seems it just happened for no underlying reason.
This is basically a condition where not enough oxygen/blood is getting to the fingers and that could be for a number of reasons some which are terrifying, some which are eminently treatable and sometimes clubbing is a sign of nothing at all. It looks very scary when you research it but apparently in a lot of cases no reason is ever found for clubbing. But it is to be taken seriously and often a lot of testing is required to cover all the bases. All kinds of lung tests and imaging, heart imaging, ultrasounds of organs, blood tests, even endoscopy/colonoscopy. There are different degrees of clubbing as well, those pictures in the video are extreme examples of clubbing.

Hello Dr. Berg I would be very grateful if you take the time to answer my question. I have fibroids and I've just started IF and Keto while avoiding meat, chicken and diary products as they increase estrogen level. My question is: is it healthy to go on IF and Keto yet consume only eggs, fish and vegetables, etc but not other foods that may trigger the bad estrogen?
My 58yr old coworker has clubbed fingertips and maybe he knows what it is or not, but he always tells about his crazy weekends. He drinks excessive alchohol, smokes while drinking and drinks diet Coke daily along with coffee. Well maybe thats why his fingers are clubbed....
When i went for a checkup with my gp last week for a fever, she noticed my clubbed fingers (grade 3) and told me to get my heart and lungs checked. I got my ecg and echo done, and the reports came normal. the pulmonologist checked my lungs, i got a chest xray and all, and he concluded i have fine lungs too. I got my cbc done, blood sugar test, liver tests done and all were normal. Only my cholesterol is borderline high and the amount of good cholesterol i have is low, and my protein is low too. So idk 😭
Dr. Berg. I think you ought to be teaching medical students and faculty because these people don't know how to even examine a patient and document their findings. They omit anything that might raise a "red flag", like profoundly clubbed nails in a young man with gut pain for much of his life. Forget trying to get them to look for what caused the gut pain.
My adult son has a similar [idiopathic] look to all of his fingernails. They are clubbed like the examples, but also have deep horizontal indentations. His bio dad, whom we just met a couple of years ago, has the exact same nails. Is this a variation of what you're describing here, or something different? What kind of tests, if any, should he have if he is seemingly quite healthy?
Mickey Rourke has these nails, probably caused by smoking. His are purple and bulbous, a sign of extreme cardio vascular problems and oxygen deficiency.
Our close friend had clubbed nails and we knew it was a danger sign. He had no health insurance and did not go to doctors. He died in his sleep at age 57.
I had no idea that clubbed nails were a thing until about a week ago. My mom looked at my hands and mentioned it to me, saying that it’s in the early stages. My appointment isn’t for another month or so, so I’ve been trying to figure out what could be behind it. I have very severe IBS-C and have to be on high doses of medications (Linzess and Amitiza) to have bowel movements. I take OTC enemas about once a week, Milk of Magnesia once or twice a month, and I’ll sometimes take store-brand ExLax, but that’s limited to once every couple months or so. Several times a year, I will basically take the equivalent of a bowel prep over the course of a day to clean myself out. This is all under the guidance of my doctor. The only thing I could find that may make sense for the clubbed nails is laxative abuse. But these articles only mention the abuse of Senna (Sennosides), which only the ExLax I take every couple months has. Do other active ingredients in laxatives cause clubbed nails? It’s weird because my twin sister takes OTC laxatives far more frequently than I do because she refuses to take prescriptions (her health insurance is garbage). If laxatives were the cause, I feel like she should have the clubbed nails, but hers are perfectly fine. My heart and lungs are healthy. I don’t smoke, eat pretty healthy, and exercise every day. Would taking ten Calcium Carbonate 1,000 mg almost every day cause it? That’s about the only other thing I can think of. I really wonder what underlying problem is behind this…
@@dashriprock5720 No, nothing new. I’ve seen two male GI doctors but they both have treated me terribly. I know women can face discrimination for issues like mine because men dismiss it as nothing. But the evidence is right there: a painful ascending colon and clubbed nails (which are slowly worsening). My PCP thinks my upper GI problems might have something to do with the communication between brain and gut that slows the digestive process, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s affecting my lower GI as well. And since everything runs slowly, my need for antacids and laxatives increases, though I still use Senna the least and only as an absolute last resort because of my nails. I’m in the process of trying to see a female doctor, but who knows how long it will take. Thanks for your concern! I appreciate it! ❤️
Doctor can i ask you one question ? Im doing intermittent fasting when im eating 2 meals one at 12pm(thats usually 1 fruit) and one at 5pm (usually one protein) and nothing beetween them. (18h) Do you think its okey to eat fruits for the first meal i have seen your videos talking for insulin and being provoked from fruits but i really find it hard giving up on them. I dont feel hungry at all so i plan to do omad too. Do you recomend? 😊😊

Hi, I have a different nail problem (since being Keto OMAD from Sept 2018). My nails are growing away from the nail bed. Both hands , ring finger and pinkie. Is this a deficiency?
@@eileeng.7110 yes definitely do so! Definitely look into it and similar things. MSM is good for joint pain, inflammation, and it is incredible for hair skin and nails. My nails are super strong ever since taking it and my hair has gotten longer and the new hair growing in has gotten stronger. So it has multiple amazing benefits. I'd recommend the crystal powder it you were to order it.
I had nail clubbing as per my knowledge from the year 2009 but I never contact doctors nor I don't have any symptoms of disease. Is there any thing to worry because it's almost 12 years it's came to my knowledge.
After that long not likely anything to worry about. If it was something serious it probably would have presented itself by now. I first came to know I had them in 2004 when I was 20.
What can I do to help my 3 1/2 year old daughter who is constantly complaining of knee pain, mostly at night. Today she cried and asks me for a little bit of medicine after 20 minutes of feeling the pain, even thou she doesn’t like to take medicine. Please Help
What causes finger trigger and swollen hands/ finger movement in the morning? Out of the blue I started suffering if this, Ting & middle fingers of each hand. I don’t do any repeated movement, or computer for long periods, I’m a 56 yo housewife doing normal daily chores. Any nutrient I might be missing? I take Mag glycinate & threonate , daily avocado.
I've had it since 2004 when I first came to know of it. I think it is just something we have to live with honestly. I've had some people notice but it is rare.
I have clubbed nails... i showed it to a medical proffessional and he said its ok.... but im kinda havjng second thoughts.... i dont have any problem with breathing tho
@@joycelle1000 I think that it might be an indicator of auto immune issues. I was not born with nails like that. They developed much later in life. Not all of them are spoon shaped
Dr. Berg, can you please provide more info about sarcoidosis of the lungs and what treatments might be most effect, how to safely stimulate autophagy, etc? Thanks for all you do! 🙏
I noticed mine when I was in six grade. Its only my right pinkie. Kinda embarrassing for me specially if my friends notices it. Then after 16yrs I was diagnosed with Mitral valve prolapsed and my cardio says it was in born so i bet that was the reason I had this 1 clubbed pinkie.
