What a beautiful rendition of this hymn! As a Catholic I can only add my own gratitude to my brothers and sisters of faith for their dedication to the ministry of music. Merry Christmas to you all!
Thanks. We respect everyone and all beliefs equally. As far as I'm concerned, if one is doing good we are on the same side no matter what our faith. I agree with you on the music. May peace be with you always.
I tell you I've never heard as rich a choir in my life. Full tone! Perfect harmony! Spectacular acoustics. Listen to the piper play. He's the best piper I've ever heard. How hard these musicians must practice. If anyone that is reading this knows the choir and instrumentation please please please let them know that it means an awefull lot to me and probably countless others. LET EVERYTHING THAT HAS BREATHE PRAISE THE LORD! if all I was predestinated to do on earth was to be a praiser of God then I feel that would be sufficient. I just spent the last hour and a half listening to still still still by your orchestra and choir and it's still ringing deep in my heart this moment! Hallelujah
totally agree, it makes me feel so peaceful. was lucky enough to discover this in time for last Christmas, so once again, it will be played a lot this year.
The Church is real and true! When one feels it within their being, their soul, The Book of Mormon speaks to me! It lifts me up on High! The members of the choir are members of the Church...they feel Him in this song. It comes through the music! Every day I get closer and closer to The Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ and the message of The Gospel Word of Jesus Christ is The Book of Mormon. 👍🙏🌏💞😇
What about the other one there were misaps. But he was a professional and realized the mistakes and cleaned it up did more practice and re-released it. A lot of people think a recorder is nothing but it is one fine instrument just not the cheap plastic kind For a live performance it is perfect for any child wanting to get into music if your child wants to get in and go get them one you might be out 20 bucks at most.
Dear God, I hope I can live worthy to live where you and the Savior live one day. We all have to ask ourselves what we need to do to be happy, for that is the whole reason he exists....🌎so we can have it all one day, if we are faithful and worthy.
My beautiful dog Max loved listening to this song he would come lay by the speakers to it every time i put it on .On the day he died I played this all day long before he went. And I swear I could see the peacefulness on his face before he left us... Max Iwe all love you so much
This song honestly gives me chills. Their rendition is flawless, and conveys the original haunting, hopeful message of the song. My favorite every time of year.
My pet lguana used to press its ear up to the terrarium whenever I played this beauriful song. Im sure I saw a little tear well up in his bulging little reptilian eye. Even though he was suffering terribly from consumption in the last few months before he died, I think in some way, this music helped him through his pain. Ill always treasure the 17 years we spent together and remember my friend fondly, especially when I hear this song. Rest in peace Berzerker.
Hi Tara, thanks for sharing! We encourage you to set up a time to visit with missionaries. Here is a link: www.churchofjesuschrist.org/comeuntochrist/requests/missionary-visit
I discovered and played this song the moment after I gave birth to my miscarried daughter 💖 I cherish this song and play it every so often. I know I'll see my daughter again 😁
“What Child Is This?” is a Christmas Carol with lyrics written by William Chatterton Dix during the Christmas of 1865. It was set to the tune of “Greensleeves”, a traditional English folk song in 1871. It was first published six years later in 1871, when it featured in Christmas Carols Old and New, a “prestigious” and “influential” collection of carols that was published in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧. Although written in Great Britain 🇬🇧, the carol today is more popular in the USA 🇺🇸, than it’s country of origin. In 1865 William was 29 yeas old when he suffered a from a near-fatal bout of sickness. He was afflicted with severe depression, and this near-death experience changed him completely. While undergoing recovery, he experienced a “Spiritual Awakening” that inspired him to start crafting hymns. He became an avid reader of The Bible and subsequently, he wrote the lyrics and incorporated the tune to the celebrated English folk song, “Greensleeves.” Greensleeves was already one of the most aesthetic and beloved melodies of the festive season, at that time. Although it’s not a quintessential Christmas tune, it’s association with the festive season can be dated back to 1642. The Choir only sang the third verse of this carol. The carol’s melody has been described as “soulful”, and “haunting and beautiful” in nature. I absolutely agree with that description. So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh, Come peasant, king to own Him; The King of kings salvation brings, Let loving hearts enthrone Him. Raise, raise the song on high, The Virgin sings her lullaby. Joy, joy, for Christ is born, The Babe, the Son of Mary! Blessings Love Light to All as we’re going through this horrendous time in the world. May all The Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s beautiful music 🎼 lift our spirits. 🙏🙏🙏💜💚💖✨💫🌟🇨🇦🇺🇸🇬🇧
Brian Savage its your soul responding .. a sound healer i met once ages ago would have said doing his best to speak the english he knew.. 'soul coming up'...
My eyes keep watering too because I am saddened to think that these beautiful singers do not believe the Jesus of the Bible . They believe that their Jesus was the brother of satan, amongst many false teachings and that one day they too can become gods ! That makes me weep just as Jesus did . So sad .
@@kenmannagh7788 then it wouldn't make any sense to sing other hymns inspired from the Bible 🤷🏻♂️ I think you should seek in true sources before judging in this way. It's very offensive to my personal and deep testimony you saying I don't believe in Jesus the Son of God but it's fine! Please look forward for a couple of missionaries and pray to God not to Internet
I love this version, the man playing the wooden recorder gave me people-bumps and I just felt taken away on an epic journey! If they were showing a scene of mountains and fields I would be there! This song holds such hope and love of how humble Jesus Christ was born! Love it!
The greatest musical piece I have ever heard. Perfection. The choir, the recorder, and the 30+ violins at 1:48 to 2.08. This is my Church, this is my Saviour.
I'm grateful for belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ! Such a great blessing listening to this, and knowing the truth God wants us to share with everyone. I'll serve a mission in Angola Luanda 🇦🇴❤
I don’t agree with Mormons much in terms of beliefs (even as a Christian myself) but I must say y’all have the most beautiful renditions of Christmas music! Absolutely love this!
This....this is Christ, the King!! The Savior, the Son of Mary!! Knowing him makes me weep. He has such a precious and loving spirit...yet he can do anything!!
I’m not a Mormon , but that is probably the most beautiful piece of music I’ve ever heard , and who ever orchestrated that is absolutely exquisite, incredible respect to you all , if god does exist he would be so proud of his creation,
Allison, so am I. I usually don't reply to a post that was written three years ago, but this time I decided to reply. Just remember, Jesus wept. Music like this should bring tears to our eyes. Somehow, I hope you see my post. My wife passed away in December of 2016. We were married 28 years. If you reply to me, I can tell you about other great music you can enjoy. I'm totally blind and use a talking computer. I'm glad you enjoy this song so much. I love it as well!
Wow! This hymn really makes me feel nearer to my Heavenly Father, and to confirm my testimony of thy great love for each one of us to give thy only son to be our Savior and Redeemer... Its beautiful to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ!
This is one of best pieces of music I have ever heard. For some reason it reminds me of images of WW1 soldiers walking into the mist and never returning. I can’t get it out of my head. The men who knew their fate. This music would have calmed their nerves, doing something they had no choice but to do.
I believe that this is representative of the pinnacle of human performance art. It doesn't get better than this. Let's all work together to make sure that art like this can flourish in the future.
1. What Child is this who, laid to rest On Mary's lap is sleeping? Whom Angels greet with anthems sweet, While shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King, Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing; Haste, haste, to bring Him laud, The Babe, the Son of Mary. 2. Why lies He in such mean estate, Where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christians, fear, for sinners here The silent Word is pleading. Nails, spear shall pierce Him through, The cross be borne for me, for you. Hail, hail the Word made flesh, The Babe, the Son of Mary. 3. So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh, Come peasant, king to own Him; The King of kings salvation brings, Let loving hearts enthrone Him. Raise, raise a song on high, The Virgin sings her lullaby. Joy, joy for Christ is born, The Babe, the Son of Mary.
The Savior is coming to rescue us from this fallen world...may we rescue ourselves and each other before He comes in His glory!! Bless the Father for allowing me to be here in this most important time in history!!
Thanks much for sharing the majesty and glory of Jesus' salvation through your majestic music ministry. I 'm always spiritually energized. Keep up the good work till Jesus comes again.
This somg amazes me because I think of how great Jesus is. Like it almost intimedates me. We have all our different perceptions of Jesus, but Idk if we realize He is EVERYTHING. And people for some reason have different views on what challenges are, but no He suffered for every single suffering! And ya, it was the Son of Mary!
I always remember my best frend when I play this video...I always play this video when my best fiend in icu room hospital...and now hes in heaven....oh God...I miss him...praise the lord
What Child is This?.... He who said "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13) What a inspiring arrangment!!
There Are No Words To Say Just How Beautiful This Version Of Greensleeves / What Child Is This Truly Is. Beautiful Arrangement, Beautifully Performed Thank You For The Glorious Music ! 🎶
Just being born for a beginning is a great accomplishment. As they have never experienced anything outside their womb. Why would they have any thoughts. Thoughts develop as this too comes back to the very essence of the creation of man and woman. Yep!
Christmas always comes with some sort of sad feelings, but listening to the choir, and President's words, it changes all of it, hope, joy, peace, and foremost, the knowledge that He lives, our Lord really lives!!!
We were service missionaries on Temple Square for this wonderful occasion and the beautiful music filled the entire building with its haunting lovely tones. What a great experience to serve our Heavenly Father and feel and hear the glorious music!
