This video represents the fruit of our vision. We set out to create a movement of informing the global youth, and of connecting young people’s perspectives around the world by sharing on the latest news and cultural trends from Asia. Thanks to our growing community of subscribers (Asian Bosses) that believe in this vision, we are one step closer to seeing that vision fulfilled. Our coverage for different regions in Asia is set to expand, as you can see from the content in this video. We deliberately filmed the intro and closing on a mobile phone to prove that anyone can be an Asian Boss, so if you are from other parts of Asia and think that you could do what was done for China in this video, get in touch with us at askasianboss@gmail.com. We are currently working on a new video with our volunteer reporter from India, so stay tuned. Thanks for watching, everybody! --Steve

Asian Boss you should do a video on what Asian people think about Mexican immigrants and the ban on Muslims in America
@sehrkuhl
@sehrkuhl 7 лет назад
Well, there is no Muslim ban in America... There were certain countries that were banned for a specific amount of time for being most likely to produce Islamic terrorist group members trying to enter the US. The countries that weren't banned have a major economic impact in the US that could throw our economy into chaos. Currently the immigration process is getting revamped to have a better screening process and also many predominantly Islamic countries weren't banned. Any illegals should be sent back to their country of origin.

Greetings as a Chinese I believe that America and China would have good mutual benefits if we ally up and work together. That Imperial America narrative is only what being taught by the old red guards generation in which is pretty out of touch with how the world is and works today. Bear in mind people of that generation does not differentiate what is propaganda and facts while schools everywhere are centers of indoctrination for those which haven't know how to think. you also have schools teaching ur students that your flag is offensive for example which is rather idiotic i must say. that is one ungrateful way to handle liberty and freedom in a democracy. (i wont argue that our system is perfect but America is truly in a sorry state since the reign of Obama) Irregardless of what they say, due to mutual interests considering the influence of both our nations and how small the world is, our people would definitely learn to work together or develop a death wish to negate each other out in which I do not think that we are that dumb. America just need to learn to do away with political correctness and recognize problems as it is with taking no short cut and detours in formulating solutions.

Shadow mode, as an American, (and a person on the conservative side of things) your response here seemed very well thought out and aware of what is going on in America. I myself, do not understand the thought process of my own fellow citizens who disrespect our flag and our nation. It's crazy! We have a wonderful place to live here, and so many people, especially younger folks, seem to think America is a bad place. They are truly ignorant, and actually believe what they "learn" in liberal schools. It's a sad thing for me, being of a more mature aged person, and what you might call a patriot. I was pleasantly surprised by the comments of the Chinese people interviewed in this video.

It's actually a bit more nuanced than that. Most people have a lot of opinions that don't exactly align with 中央 but they aren't prosecuted unless they attract a lot of attention. It's partly because China's a really large country and comms between the municipal level and the tip-top in the party aren't close, and partly because there's honestly too many people to lock up- you could probably toss half the country into a prison and too many fishes would still escape in the other half. China now is by no means an open country, but its system isn't as totalitarian anymore, and thanks to recent economic development, a strong focus on education on all fronts (mainly on the sciences), and an excess of internet access both within and beyond the Chinese firewall etc. the Chinese people are developing mature opinions about their country, and other countries, at a very fast rate. You can probably accuse the Chinese of being strongly nationalistic, sometimes to the point of blindness, and you'd be right. But it's not quite the same level of sheeple-like compliance as you'd seem to imagine-instead it's an increased shift towards cosmopolitan thought, influenced by the party line at times, but not thoroughly under its control. The China you believe in probably died with the Cultural Revolution, and I say to that, good riddance. Please don't think of today's China in the same way- that's true naivety.

Besides the fact we have been waiting for action from china and russia to help since 1960s. Should start finding an alternative production center besides china. Need to start looking elsewhere China is diehard set on killing off its economy and harm its own citizens for the benifit of trying to keep money flowing into itself... China is already trying to find another country to help it in production in Africa... Sickening

I get the feeling that it would be nice to have videos about China more often. As the most important Asian country that Western mainstream media tends to regard as an opponent, we hear far too little about them. And the language barrier is severe, too. I was glad to read those comments who said they learned something surprising about Chinese people. I, personally, think that what the people in the interviews said corresponds to rumours I might have heard whispering in the wind (I'm German btw). But it was an amazing feeling to take a glance through the courtain. On the other hand, I was also sad to see that some Chinese got hurt by other comments. Can't we leave the tensions in other places? We are not governments, we are people, all of us here. The aim of this place is understanding each other. (Yes, a vain appeal, maybe. But it still needs to be made once in a while.)

To give the short answer, the US high school educational system has become complete shit. As a result of this most social studies classes cover the main US events of history (like the fear of communism in the 50s) without covering more recent events in other countries (like the political reforms in many countries) thus for some US citizens the history of other countries seems to stop about 50 or so years ago unless they take the time to learn it themselves.

I'd lived in China for decades and I've been living in the US for another decades. I personally know all kinds of Chinese and American from different social classes, with different educational and professional background. My impression is, on average, Chinese is more, if not a lot more, well-informed and unbiased on serious issues, than average American. Reasons behind that? The propaganda and brain-washing complex of the US is much more well-developed and sophisticated than that of China. Living in China, young folks are clearly aware that the government tries to influence their ways of thinking, making them be more willing to see things from different angles and think independently. On the contrary, in the US, basically all the people are fed from day one when they are born, with a set of ideologies formulated and instilled by the capital-political super infrastructure of the country. I still believe that a great part of this set of ideologies is "correct" to certain extent, however, being right or wrong, it's a set of ideologies or believes that is not a derivative of people's independent thinking giving diversified information, instead, people are fed with these believes without the urge to scrutinize first. I strongly encourage my American friends to visit other countries, visit China, to talk with different people with completely different background. The more you would be surprised about how other people think or behave not in line with the stereotypes in your mind, the more you would realize that how strong the capital-political-mass-media brain-washing complex of the US is.

As an American I can tell you. What I think about North Korea is that they're increasingly dangerous to South Korea, Japan (our allies), US troops stationed there to help protect our allies, and now potentially the US itself. I think it's terrible how poor the country has to be in order to service the ruling class in NK. I wish China and Russia would understand that the US doesn't have much interest in NK (establishing bases, occupation, or war in general, etc) outside of their constant provocations and threats and, at times, violent acts against neighbors. When the North Koreans were in dire straights due to their famine causing their people to starve in high numbers, the US (under Bill Clinton) signed aid packages in exchange for North Korea to dismantle their nuclear programs. US held up its end of the bargain, but not NK. In fact, the US has given many aid packages over the years to North Korea with this same caveat and time and time again they've ignored it with threats to blow us up. This isn't American propaganda, this is from North Korean officials, from their state run news agencies, etc. I also think North Korea does most of this only because they treat their people so poorly that if they don't put up this facade of being tough and mighty, they'll revolt against them. They've created this boogeyman in the US as a way to ensure they stay in power. I also think between Un and Trump, Un is more likely to do something brash in terms of opening fire. The US has been about as restrained as anyone could ask a country to be by consistently acting defensively. THAAD missile batteries are there to shoot down outgoing ICBM's from NK. Aegis equipped ships are there for the same purpose. China hates them because they COULD shoot down Chinese missiles as well but, unless China is planning on firing ICBM's at the US, South Korea, or Japan, there's nothing to worry about. And, as we've asked many times over the years, if China wouldn't mind stepping in SO WE DON'T HAVE TO BE ON THEIR DOORSTEP, (since that's their big concern) we'd be happy to loosen our military posture provided North Korea, the most belligerent threat in the region and in terms of a nuclear threat, the world, was reigned in and their nuclear abilities removed. There's a good reason why the global community wants to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons, we're not different in this regard. We don't want to see localized arms races that destabilize regions and put tens of millions of lives at risk. We, like Russia, already lived that arms race and the world saw how dangerous that was. For it to happen in a nation like North Korea, where they are CONSTANTLY threatening neighbors and the US with nuclear war, is unacceptable. I'd simply ask this. If North Korea was making these same threats against China, doing all the same things they're doing, testing nukes, and ICBM's and claiming they'll nuke all of China... would you just be like... "oh... it's not a big deal... who cares... they're not a real threat... we should just give them money whenever they want so they don't murder us..." I highly doubt it. I highly doubt any country would be so dismissive.

Most people simply don't give a crap about the government. Lot of western people picture the CCP as a massive brain washing machine, but honestly most Chinese don't give a crap about it. The communist ideology died off a long time ago, especially after the 2000s. Now China is really a capitalist country ran by a communist government. And people have a lot more freedom to express their opinions now than ten years ago. If you go on any Chinese social network, chances are you'll see people talking smack about commies, and no one gets their heads chopped off. Also Chinese netizens are really good at memeing the shit out of their political leaders lol

I'm a Chinese.Since when I began to suscribe this channel, I've waiting for Chinese voice. Thanks Asianboss and the volunteer Jamie. Actually a lot of chinese young people (boys and girls) really likes to talk about politics and other news. I remember me and my college roomates once laid on our beds and talk about news until midnight.

So, I've recently had the chance to talk to someone who fought in the Korean war on China's side, and his idea of the current China-DPRK relations was quite enlightening, let me share it with you: It's not like China cares about DPRK or its regime, it's more like China is worried about USA's presence in its region (military bases in Japan, Korea and South China), and so needs to keep a buffer zone. This made me think back to why the Americans were so worried about Fidel in Cuba, or why the USSR was so adamant about acquiring land from Finland. It makes sense. Except that unlike Mannerheim or Fidel, Kim is a complete lunatic lol.

I don't think Kim is lunatic. just put yourself in his situation. What would u do, if u don't want to end like Saddam or Gaddafi?! Kim is quite successful playing his nuclear "cards", so he could survive.

Paulo Alexandre You need to know some knowledge about geopolitics, China actually needs North Korea as a buffer zone. Of course, we Chinese people want to have a more peaceful atmosphere in eastern Asia, but actually, I don't think it would be achieve as long as the presence of the USA in the region you have mentioned.
@kill5850

Paulo Alexandre yes .china help North Korea war with South Korea .not because North Korea is “communism ”country.only because for China interests.this so same with USA.i think USA help South Korea,also for USA interests.China will help north Korea even if it is a capitalist country. Because the Korean peninsula is a buffer zone for China, this location is of great strategic value.

When I compare these citizens to the average American on the street, the knowledge gap is incredible! These folks are all well versed enough on the subject to be actual commentators. Most Americans wouldn't even know what region of the world these countries re in, or who the players are - much less anything about them. But you can bet they know a Helluva lot about celebrities and sports figures! :-(

You may have misinterpreted what I said, but it s 100% true. As an American, I know Americans. Their ignorance about world events of any importance is shocking. Many don't even know who the Vice President of their own country is. This fact is made fun of often by late night show comedians. It's truly sad.

China borders North Korea, so these issues are very real for them and important to keep in mind but since this is video, it's edited and the editors probably got answers which were biased and uninformed and chose not to include them.

What's fascinating to me is the unrealistic expectation of average Americans to be well-informed about every part of the world. And when that expectation is not met, people cry "ignorant American!".

First thank you for giving me the Chinese prospective, I was surprised and happy to see just how western the modern China has become from the videos we see of the march soldiers and stuff like that we don't really get to see the average day in a Chinese community, and yet here it is similar too what I see when I look out my window here in Canada. I now have a better understanding of the average Chinese citizens. I always saw China as the Big Bad Monster across the sea who wants to drive everything western out of Asia, but now I understamd there just like me good people trying to live the best life possible.
@Garnishes
@Garnishes 3 года назад
if i may say something, stop claiming 'modernity' and certain types of ideas as 'western'. If u mean logical and well-informed, that's not a western trait - anyone from any part of the world can be logical and well-informed. by your statement of "happy to see just how western the modern china has become", it just reeks of subconscious superiority complex and ignorance. If u think 'non-western' countries must be like a western country in order to be seen as 'good', then u really need to rethink some really outdated ideas in your head (p.s. i'm not from China, but I really feel the need to say this)
@toddcraner3843
@toddcraner3843 3 года назад
@@Garnishes first let me say sorry for taking so long to reply, ask yourself what causes war to take place, what makes one nation hate another, its the differences between the two cultures it creates a different outlook on the same situation. By me saying that China now has western habits then this is what I hope could be the beginning of closer ties between China and N.A.T.O. its not about superiority of east or west that's what started the Cold War. What I want is a coming together of old enemies into new friends. You see some ideas are western, democracy failed in both Russia and China that's why both nations now have dictators. A western Nation like France, England, Canada and even the U.S. (despite what that idiot Trump believes) could never fall under a dictatorship, its just not us. So you see there are somethings which are truly western. It was this that I saw in this video the possibility that China could also someday be a place where a dictatorship just wouldn't happen. Now if you see this as a bad thing, well then, I think its you who should rethink their view point.

These videos are very interesting. I think what is most striking is how informed most of the Chinese people seem to be about their nation and politics. If you'd ask these same questions to Americans most of us wouldn't even know where North Korea was let alone the political motivations of these countries.

Very enlightening video! Much thanks! As a military veteran, at age 18 while in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq, I learned a very important lesson: Governments and a country's people are completely different. When nations are at war, it's the governments of nations that are at war, and unfortunately, they drag their people into it with them. That's why I never take poor decisions of governments out on a nation's people. By and large, people just want to live their lives without the childish antics of governments, and the military industrial complex war profiteers who foment these wars for pieces of fiat paper currency. This is why instead of being the last option, violence seems to be the first thing on the table. It's all about money for a very few corrupt people who hate all of humanity. So, whenever you're disgusted by a government in another country (I'm often disgusted by my own government), keep in mind not to get angry at a person from that country. They had nothing to do with it. Chances are, they want the same thing you do. Just to live their life the best way they can. On a side note, while the Japanese language is very easy for me to learn, I find the Chinese language to be very difficult. So, I'm very grateful you did interviews with everyday Chinese people so I can hear their thoughts!
