@@MarsiaAschierirz-wv5oqplease enlighten us with the verse where we are "specifically" directed to enter into a legal contract with the state. A Christian marriage is a Covenant between a Man, a Woman and God or does the state have the final authority. Interestingly only last week I brought this topic up with our Pastor and several other members after the service. The opinion was unanimous, God is the authority as the architect of marriage not the state. And yes I have researched this very topic in great length in the Holy Bible, with clergy and writings on the matter.

@@notsocrazyjohn5348 So what does that mean? A covenant between a woman, man and God - does that mean a man, woman say they are married to each other with no public wedding, no ceremony with witnesses, they just decide they're committed and don't make a big announcement? Do they represent themselves publicly as Mr and Mrs? Are they known as married to the church, friends, family, the public at large, if something happens does the other person speak for the other as the spouse in the event of an accident? That's part of what one could call "one flesh." The very fact that it doesn't explicitly say "marriage must be legal" when it is implicitly stated and understood what getting married meant and it doesn't negate God approving legal marriage. Also keep in mind, the couple becomes seen as married by law in most places and would need to divorce to be seen as single if represented as married without the paper. The question is what does God and the writers understanding the term "married" an institution God created and blesses to mean? What would the verse 1 Corinthians 7:12-13 To the rest I say this: If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. If marriage was only a personal religious covenant between God and the couple, how would they be seen as being in a covenant if one doesn't believe and still be considered married to God? They wouldn't be married, which would be a sin. 36If a man has a woman friend to whom he is loyal but never intended to marry, having decided to serve God as a “single,” and then changes his mind, deciding he should marry her, he should go ahead and marry. It’s no sin; it’s not even a “step down” from celibacy, as some say. So a man is loyal to a woman. Maybe she lives with him. They're already committed to each other...What would getting married entail? He's already "loyal" to her. What was the difference between Mary and Joseph being betrothed and being married? Hebrews 13:3: "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous." Honoured by ALL means RECOGNIZED BY ALL. How can it be RECOGNIZED BY ALL if it is simply a two-person heart covenant with God? Romans 7:2 "For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of marriage." Self evident. BOUND BY LAW 1 Peter 2:13-17 "Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supremeor to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor. ," Legal marriage, as a form of submission to societal authority, aligns with these principles. Revelations 19:7-9 "Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”- for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.” God is describing a public wedding ceremony where the woman is elaborately adorned. Matthew 22:1-4 And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son, and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come. Again he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.”’ So they are having a feast during a celebration for a wedding. Throughout the Bible, a wedding is public, ceremonial, and holds legal authority. I could go on with first is where it's taken for granted that the audience knows what a wedding is during that time. What is fornication if it is not sex without being married? Can you give an example where God does not approve of or discourages legal marriage? Or supports a couple living together without being married?

Marriage is not just between the couple and God. It is also between the couple and the community they live in. If they are publicly and legally married according to the laws and customs of their culture, then members of the community know to treat them as married, for example, not trying to pursue a romantic relationship with one of them. This is because God will judge them if they try to interfere with that marital relationship. None of this community interest applies where there is no community or society or culture or civilization because there are no other people around. Such as with Adam and Eve in the garden. Such as when a man and woman are living in some remote wilderness apart from all humans or stranded on a desert island. In those cases their marriage is just between themselves and God. And none of this applies to modern Western culture.

@@cbtam4333 No, living together is marriage from what the word says. Of course in the modern day there is now the word 'cohabiting' but there is no greater sign that you and someone are one and committing by leaving your parents and commit tot another by living together. The problem is people lack basic commitment and respect for covenant because when a heart is hard they will leave a 'non legal' marriage but people will also do the same in a legal marriage and go to great lengths to destroy because their hearts are hard. Divorce wouldn't even be an issue if we obeyed Jesus and hearts were soft and we forgave... can you imagine that two people who were once so in love.. so infatuated by each other head over heals now hate each other.. tell me what else screams a heart heart aside from that. It is Ludacris to hate people... especially someone you claimed to love the most in the whole world at some point. Hard hearts is the issue. Let's pray for hearts in the church and by God's grace divorce and remarriage will dwindle.

@@Matt-jz6ek Marriage, like government, was set up by God to be a human institution. As long as you are living in a community or society of people, you are obliged to submit to certain rules of that community or society, including those relating to the institutions of government and of marriage. Marriage has never been merely a private matter between a husband and wife and God, at least not since Adam and Eve when there were no other people around. If marriage were a purely private affair, adultery would also be a purely private affair about which no community or individual outside the marriage could have any say. No civilization has ever operated that way. Because no man is an island.

@@Matt-jz6ekno it is not living together. That's called fornication. What exactly is betrothal vs marriage then? Where did Jesus perform his first miracle? A wedding ceremony. That in itself is also symbolic as the church is the bride of Christ. **Isaiah 61:10** - "I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, *as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels."* Jeremiah 2:32 *"Does a young woman forget her jewelry, a bride her wedding ornaments?...* Psalm 45:13-15 "All glorious is the princess within her chamber; her gown is interwoven with gold. In embroidered garments she is led to the king; her virgin companions follow her-those brought to be with her. Led in with joy and gladness, they enter the palace of the king." In Matthew 22:2-14 Jesus gives the Parable of the Wedding Banquet. This parable describes a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. When the invited guests refused to come, the king invited others from the streets. One guest was found without wedding clothes and was cast out. Now why would Jesus emphasize a parable about a wedding ceremony and not being in proper attire for it to us being prepared for the kingdom of heaven? Certainly the message of the story was not that the father would have been wrong.

The question is how does God make covenants? Right. He never makes covenants and getting approval with the authorities. Never. He works alone. Marriage is a secret and covenant agreement with you and your spouse through faith. Believe in the Lord and you’ll never need to make it “official” from authorities. Everyone is deceived by what our ancestors have passed down and we start to believe that “writing on a paper” makes it official. Wrong. It says in the Bible, when the farmer goes to sleep the devil comes and plants his seed among his crops. Ok. The thing to look into is Christ and the church resembles a marriage. Does it say anything about getting government approval makes us official to Christ? No. So there’s your answer. People talk about Romans 13:1 Submission to Government Authorities. This doesn’t mean follow their customs, it talks about following common laws, “For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭13‬:‭4‬ Again, authorities do not force us to be married and write on a piece of paper. Keep Gods word alive inside each of you. Study and have faith by obeying his commands. The true connection as us the church. Amen!

Agreed like Rebecca and Isaac, Adam and Eve, marriage by a judge and a priest became a thing in the xviii century because of the Catholic church cause it was their interest to control and manipulate society, to charge taxes from married people, I forgot where in the bible says whatever you do without faith is sin, but if you do with faith is valid, is something like that , I believe me and my husband are married for we believe and have faith we are we will get married with a ceremony and paper work soon but think about people like slaves who couldn't get married???? Or people through war ? Like Jews and other countries through war ? I believe we all need to seek understand God prioritises our commitment, our words and our actions more than a piece of paper given by a man officializing something that he Himself created, Adam and Eve was a marriage the real marriage for me in my eyes

the legal aspect comes from the tradition of Christian monarchies providing legal authority and protection to married couples, sanctifying their union in the eyes of the state (which used to represent God). Unfortunately we no longer live under Christian monarchies, we live under Satan worshiping Freemasons who have long since made a mockery of legal marriage... allowing for homosexuality and no-fault divorce among other things. So yeah, I'm not too worried about having my marriage "blessed" by the state.

Hey I had this thought as well so with people saying you need to be married through ceaser(government) it’s kind of like saying Gods word is not complete without the government law which I find hard to believe For example the laws says gays can get married but we know God doesn’t view that as marriage so is the law right there? And another example is when Blacks couldn’t get “Legally” married but made a convenient w God one wouldn’t argue that God would not considered them married just because the law didn’t agree

we live in a unique time and culture, in which our society has become so saturated with satanic ideologies that legal marriage has become a farce. Homosexuals are allowed to "marry", and no-fault divorce means anyone can divorce at any time for any reason (or no reason). This makes a mockery of marriage in the eyes of God, so I'm not too worried if someone wants to forego a legal marriage these days. That said, I would still legally marry (through the church). Just make sure you know what you're doing... marriage isn't about "falling in love" or having a big fancy wedding, it's about making a serious commitment in the presence of God to love (the action not the feeling) someone even when you don't feel like it anymore. It's meant to last until death.

2:20 God is the officiant... He is the _only_ officiant. The Bible says "What _God_ brings together let no man separate." Why do you have a problem with people saying they are "married in God's eyes" if they actually are? And if His Word backs it up or doesn't contradict it? If God really is accepting of a person's marriage, who are you to say it's not legitimate? The Bible never defines marriage as something that needs to be done in a church or governmentally legitimate to be legitimate before God. The Bible describes marriage as when "A man leaves his father and mother to coexist with his wife and the two become one flesh." (paraphrased) Nowhere in the Bible does it require a ceremony or documentation. Romans 13 doesn't really work as an argument either because we are talking about marriage, which God already created and defined. The government can contradict scripture and it mean we have to follow it because of Romans 13. Also, a piece of paper means nothing if there is no commitment between the two people. So commitment _is_ what actually matters. Like you said, you don't wanna stand before God one day and be married to someone you weren't sure you were fully committed to. This is not to say I believe weddings are useless, I think they're good and important, but whether it is what legitimizes a matrimony is a different issue. Men do not have the power to declare people married. Only God has this power, and it something that He created and that only the two spouses involved freely choose to do. Most of your argument deals with divorce, I didn't hear anything biblical that proves the type of marriage you disagree with is unbiblical. I also don't agree with the assumption you make that, if a couple gets married in this way, they'll end it in divorce. In fact, that only makes sense if you admit they're even married in the first place. How a person get's married has no bearing on whether they'll get divorced. Even people who get married legally and in the church get divorced, so it does nothing to prove that way of marriage is superior, let alone required by God. This is my opinion on this matter, I don't judge you for your belief, I just thought I'd respond to the video from my own. Much love to you all, God bless.

Thank you! I agree! Beautiful way of saying this. Taking Ruth for example, they just announced they were married in their community and that was it. I believe if couple is in that covenant with God and firmly stands on the word for their duties as husband and wife, an engagement is basically a marriage in God’s eyes. You’re also saying a vow engagement. There’s a lot of legally married couples that are not spiritually married I say. Anyone can get legally married, nonbelievers, unequally yolked, for money. A Godly marriage is different.

There isn't an official ceremony in the Bible because it's assumed back then the people knew what a wedding was, but you still see that there was a formal process back then of the man giving something to the father of value. And there needed to be witnesses. Why would there be a certificate for divorce if there was no certificate for marriage?

So I have a question. I've been married three times through the Magistrate. And I have somebody telling me since I'm divorced my last husband a week after we got married decided to start cheating on me he moved out to go be with another woman and our entire marriage he has lived with her. I divorced him got the paperwork. I was told by somebody I cannot get remarried that it's not biblical. That it says nothing about remarriage in the Bible only that you were to give the statement for divorce so they knew the reason why you guys were not living together and married no more. But if I wanted to be with anybody I'd have to reconcile with him. My question is was I ever married in the eyes of God I always went to the Magistrate there wasn't really any major vows. I wasn't even in the church when I did it. I didn't have a pastor. I would like to be with somebody and have a husband. And he married in God's eyes with a covenant. But I'm told that if I do that I'll be living an adultery. Can anybody answer my question?

(NKJV) Mat 19 1-9 1 Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these sayings, that He departed from Galilee and came to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. 2 And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there. 3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?" 4 And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,' 5 and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate." 7 They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?" 8 He said to them, "Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery."
