This video is closer to what other AD&D alignment videos are correct in my opinion. I think that Rick needs a bit more slack cut to him on the "good" scale. Relative to his perceptions, abilities, and inevitable nihilism, Rick is a borderline saint. Edit: Also, some of your Chaotic Evil rules are based upon sheer selfishness. That generally has nothing to do with the Lawful-Chaotic scale. It is evil. That is Neutral Evil. Chaotic Evil is more The Joker that makes a big mess for fun and profit than someone who just jumps on an opportunity. That Jessica thing with the Death Crystal, he blindly follows his own selfish motive, looking to follow the order. That bounces between Lawful Evil and Neutral Evil with Neutral Evil motivation.

I don't think I could ever call Rick good but when you frame Rick like that, I would agree he leans closer to good than evil.

Well I'd rather see a more indepth breakdown of episodes, I'm all for breaking videos/reviews into parts like seasons or something. I'd wouldn't expect long running series to get done in one go and broken in parts, Maybe with time gaps and other videos inbetween the parts.

I'm done after the bit at 2:12. Just because, for him, destroying a world has the same overall impact as helping his grandkids hunt a vampire does not make it any less evil for him to, ya know, DESTROY A FRIKKIN' WORLD. The fact that doing so is just as impactful as a little side trip in a younger body goes to show how much of a sociopath he really is (by the way, that younger body also expressed a desire to live its own life separate from regular Rick's conscience and Rick chopped it and all the other bodies to pieces, so that means he was enslaving those clones that had developed their own wills so he could jump into their bodies whenever he wanted to be a different age, and then he murdered them instead of letting them go). TLDR: Rick is chaotic evil, or, at best, chaotic neutral. No one in their right mind should ever consider him good.

I disagree with the conclusion because of how you categorized evil. "Imagine the damage Rick could be doing if he gave a shit about destroying or conquering planets." That's not the standard for evil. Your end goals arent the determining factor on the alignment chart, even if they can be a factor. Good is defined as having a respect for life and being willing to put you and yours at risk for others. Evil is about putting nothing ahead of yourself and your desires. Neutral, in regards to this axis, generally means caring about and sacrificing for those closest to you and not caring about the world at large. At least, that's my memory of the definitions from 3rd edition, when I started playing. "Rick just wants to party and have a good time with his friends." On it's face, that's a neutral stance. However, as shown in the episode you're using clips from as you say that, Rick doesnt care who gets hurt or even dies in pursuit of that goal. This is actually an example of Rick being evil. I actually ultimately agree that Rick is Chaotic Netural at this point. Morty and Beth (and probably Summer) are important enough to him that he's willing to make sacrifices for them. He's just much more heavily leaning on the evil side since that's where hes coming from.
@Theron101
@Theron101 4 года назад
I really disagree with how hes doing a lot of these decisions And your definitions seem to be accurate to today's standards in 5e
@TheRealSkele
@TheRealSkele 4 года назад
Rick who is douchey and evilish in the eyes of the general public, might not be evil in your (mostly questionable) definition of evil. The reason for my own reasoning is that Rick knows alot. He knows that doing things has consequences and if he knows that acting in a certain way prevents something, that is bad for someone, from happening and acts that certain way, then why would he be classified as evil? If I remember correctly Rick does have a device that helps him see what happens in the future and if we do not see the consequences of him doing something different then we cannot, for certain, say that he is good or evil. But we can generalize Rick along the vertical axis if the vertical axis states his thoughts and actions of himself (chaotic) versus everyone else (lawful). According to that view of the vertical axis, Rick would be classified as chaotic.
@TheLoadingCrew

At this point. its coming down to using 2 or 3 different math fomula to get the same answer. We all kinda agree he's Chaotic Netural. I'm just saying he's leaning towards chaotic good just by my evidence. And my definition of evil is consistent by how we do it (although we do disagree with outselves a lot when we write these down.) but we do have the "this is subjective" comment at the beginning of every video for a reason.

Morty C-137 90% Neutral Good (Default Alignment) 10% Chaotic Evil (When he is pushed beyond his limits) Rick C-137 I strongly disagree taking his actions lightly just because of Rick's inner nihilism. If we are justifying evil Character's from within they will be "good" characters... Thanos's thought his actions were for the greater good... he considered himself as a Hero. Tarquin doesn't want to be tagged as Evil.. Though every action he does screams Lawful Evil. Rick is selfish, he cares about himself 99% of the time. Even when he does "good" deeds, is because he wants his annoying relatives to stop annoying him. Because it's easier and faster to just do a random gadget that will eventually blow in their family faces, than lecturing them about the dangers of their requests. Rick is reckless, lazy, hedonist, alcoholic. He lacks emphaty.... of course he knows how to read feelings... utilitary emphaty... to manipulate people (the way psychopaths do) However Rick has low Charisma so he has to use other means to such purposes... And he only do such work for his family. And those he relates to. He has a soft spot.. for Morty. Sometimes... Overall Rick is Chaotic Evil 60% of the time. Chaotic Neutral 40% of the time (Drinking, sleeping, just doing random stuff like turning himself into a Pickle or a Teenager, being nice with his grandchildren and daughter)

I understand why mortys mind blowers was left out on both occasions but I still feel it should be considered because those events happened, regardless of the order, if that is the issue you have with it. There is a debate to be had about what forgetting certain events would shape his morality and alignment and id say that’s a better reason then just not knowing a timeline of events.

Apathy is inherently Neutral on top of the will to commit evil. If you have the capacity to commit good & evil and choose not to commit evil you're Good. If you have the capacity to commit good & evil and choose to use either you're Neutral. If you have the capacity to commit good & evil and choose not to commit good you're Evil. Lawful and Chaotic come down to matters of conviction. If you choose to follow your beliefs regardless of the downside you're Lawful. If you choose to compromise on your beliefs when it suites you best you're Neutral. If you abandon you're beliefs for the smallest inconvenience you're chaotic. Rick is most definitely Chaotic Neutral as he doesn't have many beliefs he's uncompromising on and does good/evil deeds to achieve his goals. What would shift Rick's Alignment to evil is if he only performed harmful acts with 0 ulterior motives besides causing pain and suffering/death.

I do think that Rick is more well-intentioned than people give him credit for. Like using Morty to protect himself and punishing Morty for chastising his vat of acid idea, those are either chaotic good/neutral type stuff but some of t he stuff he did was outright selfish, such as forcing Morty to go get crystals just to do a high dance and selling guns to assassins just to play a video game and he has done some evil stuff for very selfish reasons that wouldn't put him in chaotic good imo. I would say Rick is more chaotic neutral. He doesn't care about rules or laws. I know some people think of him as a Chaotic Evil but I wouldn't put him in that category. He's not entirely evil, he's protective of his family and friends and is cooperative when in a team (something that Chaotic Evils aren't good at) Maybe Lawful or Neutral Evil at worst. He can do evil things when wronged like a Lawful Evil but he also does evil things for entirely selfish reasons (Neutral Evil). I also don't agree with putting Morty on the Neutral Good alignment. Maybe that was fitting before but especially not if you look at seasons 4 and 5. He kickstarted the snake event because he didn't want to stay in the car, he mutilated a boy because while the boy did do something wrong, that still was some lawful evil energy right there. The reason why he stole Rick's portal gun in the rick vs president episode didn't make sense as Rick iirc wasn't abusing his family, he just got a little too friendly with Clone Beth. Moreso true neutral right there. In general, I'd put him in the true neutral category. He does still believe in doing the right thing but he does do some evil things for his own benefit.

Rick Lawful Good (5): Risking his life to make sure his family is safe when dealing with the Alien Parasites, killing Coach Feratu, helping Beth's and Jerry's marriage, doing a bunch of nice things as Tiny Rick, and turning himself into prison to save his family. Neutral Good (6): Encouraging Morty to go on an adventure, killing Mr. Jellybean, fixing his house's damage with Morty and Summer, sacrificing himself briefly to save Morty, helping to save the Earth from the Cromulons, and helping Beth to save Joseph Lipnip Chaotic Good (11) (Ending alignment for Video 1): Encouraging the dogs to leave for the Dog Dimension, humiliating and beating up Mr. Needful, reaffirming Morty as his Morty, helping Morty and Fart on their quest, overthrowing the Purge Planet's government, forgiving Jerry for trying to have him killed, helping save the world from his toxic self, messing with the president by solving all of his problems, allowing Jerry back into the family, being nice to Tony even though he pooped in his toilet, and erasing Jerry's memory of the cat's visions Lawful Neutral: None. True Neutral (3): Killing the Zigerions to save Jerry, hopping through universes to get back to his home, and killing a species of snakes by letting the time cops handle them. Chaotic Neutral (5) (Starting alignment and current alignment): Building Anatomy Park in Ruben and Ethan, humiliating the matriarchal Gazorpazorps, throwing a destructive party, partying with Unity, and turning himself into a pickle to avoid therapy. Lawful or Neutral Evil: None. Chaotic Evil (10): Freezing Frank, forcing Morty to smuggle seeds through his butt, making a love potion, dooming the universe to a Cronenberg fate, leaving his universe, enslaving a microverse to power his car battery under threat of violence, ending the Galactic Government, thousands of lives, and Beth's and Jerry's marriage over a packet of szechuan sauce, stealing a rock with infinite power at the last second after introducing it to the Mad Max Planet, killing the Vindicators after getting blackout drunk, and going on a crazy plan to get Morty to give up on making a Netflix movie. Morty Lawful Good (6): Telling the truth about who he is to Summer, telling the truth to the Plutonians, killing the Alien Parasites, advising Jerry not to get into a toxic romance, saving the world from Jerry, and helping as many snakes as he can. Neutral Good (Ending alignment) (7): Taking charge in Anatomy Park, doing heroic acts for a fantasy village, saving Rick from Evil Rick, helping Unity with the planet they've taken over, helping to save the Earth from the Cromulons, not stopping Rick from leaving for the good of the family, and trying to help the Vindicators and Rick. Chaotic Good (5): Lying to Morty Jr. for his own health, covering for Rick's actions for the party, freeing Fart then killing him for the sake of the universe, mutilating Ethan for breaking Summer's heart, and abandoning Rick with his family out of fear of him. Lawful Neutral (1): Abandoning his family to avoid fusing back with his toxic self. True Neutral (Starting alignment) (8): Getting dragged into adventures four times, expressing denial that Tiny Rick taking over regular Rick is a bad thing until he's forced to do something about it, expressing his opinions on Interdimensional Cable, getting dragged into therapy, and realizing he should go on a middle of the road path. Chaotic Neutral (3): Killing a bunch of people on the Mad Max planet in a mix of catharsis and assisting the arm that's controlling him, giving up on his dreams for his Netflix movie, and getting jealous of a dragon for bonding better with Rick than himself. Lawful or Neutral Evil: None. Chaotic Evil (3): Drugging Jessica into loving him, killing a bunch of people on the Purge Planet, and shooting Rick out of frustration.

If that's a "good" act, then Hitler committing genocide is a "good" act, because he had an issue with all the people he murdered and thus that allows him to do as he pleases. It's really not a good argument that having your feelings hurt or acting in the place of someone who got their feelings hurt is a justification for permanently harming someone.

To be clear, the anime Overlord. The anime takes inspiration from multiple games and fantasy tropes with a twist(action dramaedy type stuff, 2nd and 3rd seasons really get interesting with the direction, I don't think they expected that much success when they came out with season 1) but I'd say there is a lot of DnD in it's core. I'm trying to set expectations but s1 is good but not great imo but all the twists and turns, the amount of evil his underlings are up to he is mostly unaware of and the evil he is aware of. The whole concept of the show is fun from a few aspects for me. It's a whole different set of expectations a person has to live up to combined with the undead emotional suppression he is submitted to under intense emotions. Then the way his subjects see him, how the more intelligent ones use their own intelligence to excuse any seeming miscalculation must be part of a grander plan, so they then basically assume what it is and ensure it. Their perspectives and... Ok I'ma stop gushing. The show got so good and it's a fun concept at it's core that doesn't go ignored. It also has a decent dub for the 1st 2 seasons. I watched both the sub and dub, and I have no strong opinion either way. Especially if the 3rd season is still only subbed anyway, you will see both... though I've just been told the 3rd season is dubbed. Holy shiz this is so long, where did this come from... To such a short comment too. Oh well, it's done.

@E. Yea, most are evil, but I'm more interested in how he would judge Ainz with all the evil servants he has. Not to mention war itself is not inherently evil, violent and horrendous but a war waged on evil wouldn't be evil. Not to mention the 'sheep' Demiurge gets the skin for the spell scrolls are probably humans and then the fact they have a special research group under Demiurge testing cross breeding species for better quality scrolls from their skin. What they call the Happy Camp probably has more to do with hell than happy. And Ains is pretty oblivious to most of the more horrendous actions of his underlings. Then there is the whole German design of Pandora's Actor, the interest and distaste Ains previously had towards a certain historical situations. There is a reason Ains snapped at Pandora's Actor for speaking German in front of him. Lots of implications about how Ainz would not like the actions his servants have taken but at the same time his underlings are the only real connection to his old life, and they were an evil themed guild so it isn't the servants fault they behave as they do, created as they were by his old friends for roleplay as a bastion of evil. This show treads a line between morality, expectations of others, and evil. As well as the fact that leaders shouldn't let oversight slip.

spoiler alert Morty is not from C137, that is a misconception and designation he gave himself based on what he heard rick referred to himself and having up to that point thought that he and his rick were from the same universe originally.

So, if you are neutral good and do a true neutral act, you get the same alignment shift as if you were doing a neutral evil act. Did I get that right?

Yeah, I think one could say without a shadow of a doubt she is a Lawful Good. Maybe leaning towards Neutral Good for the fact she is willing to go against protocol or against the orders of her CO to do what she feels is right.

I don't do this frequently, but I am downvoting this. I will change my vote if my mind is changed. Reasoning (and willing to debate) below. Yes, original Brolly had his (severe) short comings. However, DB Super Brolly was a nerfed version and an attempt to turn a psychotic mass murdering sadist who killed for fun (in other words, a SAIYAN) into a sympathetic antagonist rather than a villain. Frankly, this choice sickens me. This narrative decision robs the character of his previous status and menace. The Saiyan race is constantly hailed as a warrior race, seeking out battle for it's own sake. Original Brolly was all of that, and as the immensely powerful Legendary Super Saiyan, his power gifted by fluke genetics from birth and not earned, he would have been difficult to control, let alone raise, as a child more powerful than his father. I understand the dynamics of original Brolly and appreciate him more as an over powered villain barely controlled by a psychic dampener that his father uses to try to keep his impossibly dangerous son in a lobotomized state, without completely neutering Brolly's ability to wreak mass murder. New Brolly is basically Goku without the raising of Grandpa Gohan, more power, and a helpless damsel to get all worked up over the death of (his father, in the same way you hated the Deadpool 2 movie plot, yet you are fine with this?). DB Super Brolly is shown as far less powerful than his original version as well, detracting from him being perceived as this all powerful Saiyan warrior. The scars his new version has show him as vulnerable to harm, his power levels are shown lower, and the destruction caused by his attacks is significantly lower and more confined in area. Oh, he is nuking a glacier with these blasts, but original Brolly caused planet wide earthquakes when he used Goku's midsection as a trampoline. He blew up a habitable planet with what seemed to be an ordinary blast intended to kill a couple dozen nobodies. He toyed with four Super Saiyans and fused Piccolo with ease and was in full control the entire time.He survived Freiza blowing up Vegeta, a planet with ten times the gravity and presumably mass, as the Earth. He destroyed a freaking GALAXY unopposed. He was a cosmic level threat. New Brolly tries to recapture the menace and claims the power, but the only claim he gets to make to it is that he fights Golden Freiza off screen and takes on two Super Saiyan Blues. Given the way the Buu saga was handled and everyone freaking out about Kid Buu creating a death ball that was "enough to blow up the planet ten times," I feel like the series realized the problem of it's own power creep and over corrected by backsliding the abilities of the characters into Saiyan saga levels, as even Freiza had proven himself more powerful than that. In the end, I enjoyed the original Brollu BECAUSE he was a chaotic evil monster without an effort to humanize him or make him relatable. He was drunk on his own power and had lived his life unequaled and unchallenged. A spoiled child who COULDN'T be told no. He was anathema to Goku. Yes, the writing and story were bad, but the CHARACTER was there. You just didn't like WHAT he was. New Brolly lost ALL of that. He is Brolly in name only. Original Brolly was in full control at his most powerful while the new version was only powerful when lost in a rage.
