Katatonia helped me a lot thru life in general: in both good and rough times. I saw them live in Santa Cruz with Opeth when this album came out while i was in college.:

@@gigeorge6sic6 when the hell was that?? I saw Opeth back in '99 and nobody in the states knew who they were. So I easily went back to their tour bus and just hung out for a couple hours. Loved having the chance to talk with them. It was pretty cool back then when people in the states didn't know who they were. Anyway, but I have still yet to see Katatonia live. I know they toured together at some point. But every time I had a chance to see Katatonia it got canceled.

Why do you keep comparing them with Tool and say that they will never be Tool? They DON’T need to be Tool. Katatonia is unique in what they do.

I hear people comparing katatonia to tool often, which can be an unfortunate obstacle in truly grasping the magnificence of katatonia for what they are. Never being tool is a good thing, lol. I love both bands and have for decades, but katatonia gets far more play for me. Whereas the depth of tool most often comes from a place of grandiose esoteric spiritualism and tends to address world stage, political/societal, and even cosmic level concepts, Jonas's lyrics come from an incredibly deep and profoundly personal space of no less complexity and significance. What really drives it home for your typical katatonia fan is how precisely, skilfully and appropriately the music itself is crafted around each piece.

I love Katatonia. Many of their hooks are subtle. With continued listening, you enjoy them more and more. Jonas Renske has a very unique vocal delivery that I love. I caught these guys in concert in SLC

Katatonia is amazing. Their discography is a hell of a journey, too. Started off as a straight death metal band and transitioned into doom and like, basically alternative rock, and then got heavier back to this sound, which is kinda a weird rock / doom metal mix. Saw them live after this album came out, amazing band.

I've had experienced this forgetfulness myself. After my wife left me for what I thought was a friend of mine, the stress of it was such that I had severe memory problems around what even happened during the relationship which lasted about 8 years, only the last year where we married. I could not even create a timeline of events. I still do not remember what her voice sounded like.

Katatonia is one my favorite bands to the point where my wife and I have lyrics of them engraved in our wedding rings. I was lucky to see them live back in 2012 and it was surreal. They're notoriously underrated. The very best album they offer is The Great Cold Distance along with the EPs that led to the album. Thank you for reacting to them!

Not that anyone gives a crap, Katatonia falls in the metal sub genre "Melodic Doom Metal" I'll also add, after reading some comments. The singer Jonas Renkse said in an interview, that a big influence for him and the band in general was the band "The Cure".
