@@KathyLuluandDonna GOOD NEWS!!!!! James' father was battling stage 4 Kidney disease at the time the video was made, with no donor available. However, a donor was found at the last minute, I believe a distant relative, purely by chance. His father is with us and thriving in 2023! 😁 Just BTW.... I thought I could get through it this time.... But YOU set me off!!!

As someone else mentioned, a donor was found and the father is living well now, but what I think is remarkable is that it was this video that helped save his father's life. A distant relative saw the video when it first came out (there apparently was a lot of publicity in England about it) and decided to get tested, was found to be a match, and donated a kidney. The transplant surgery took place less than one month after the video came out.

It shows life going full circle. Toward the end each night i would make sure my father was clean, had his medicine, had his water for overnight. Then i would make sure he got into his bed safely, tuck him in, put his fall mat down and turn on the baby monitor. Tending to him in much the same way i do my kiddo. When you are little they tuck you in. When they get older it reverses. I had gone in to tuck him in last month and he was gone.

Due to this song his dad found a relative i believe in Australia that donated a kidney, he initially was doing well, but now i here hes not so good now...the two men saying goodbye is a reference to when they were both in the Army , his dad a colonel and James a captain , which they said we are 2 men saying goodbye when they were each deployed ...

His father has not passed away, but he is dying at this stage. James wrote this song for his father and sang it to him, in private. He then asked if his father would mind if he recorded it and hoped his father would be in the clip with him. It was done in one take, so he could get the raw emotion and the final product is what you see. His father is very stoic in appearance, but he felt what James was saying to him. At the time of this clip, a match had not been found for his father to have a kidney transplant but after the clip was released, he was saved by a matching donor coming forward.

This song is so touching for anybody who has lost a father/father-in-law/father figure in the last few months or year or so. James filmed this entirely in one take because he knew he wouldn’t be able to do it again for a second take. That really is his father in the video but he didn’t pass away. As a result of this song and this video, somehow James managed to turn his family torture into the most wonderful gift. Brits started turning out in their droves for organ donation. His father received a kidney from a ‘living donor’ and other families were blessed with other organs from living donors and from consenting families for all organs where loss,of life has happened to loved ones. James is an incredible artist, he is ex-army (British Household Cavalry) and he has served very dangerous tours of duty but he got himself. Record deal and the rest is history.

I'm a grown man and I've seen this so many times, and it makes me cry each and every time. I did lose my Dad when I was young, and I loved him very much. One take. No Auto-Tune'. James wanted this amazing emotional song to be absolutely 100% true, real and genuine. It was recorded soon after his father had been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease and needed urgently to find a donor to save his life. I heard James donated all the proceeds from this incredible video to the UK charity 'Help For Heroes' who do such wonderful work for ex-servicemen and women. Happily, a donor was found and although his father is still with us, I've heard conflicting reports as to his general state of health these days, some not very encouraging.

James wanted this to be 100% real and authentic. This was the first time he'd sung it to his dad, who had only recently been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer and was not expected to survive, although they did eventually fine a donor and he made it. Both James and his dad are former officers in the British military. I don't know how James managed to keep himself together so well, powerful and obviously deeply emotional for him. First time i heard this song was 3 days after my Dad passed away and it broke me, I lost my Dad 4 years ago this August after he fell and hit his head sadly he didn't survive it caused a bleed on his brain I sadly never had the chance to tell him I loved him and that hurts but i know he is at peace now.

I feel Ace's pain when he was separated from his dad. My father and I were at odds with each other for a while. I was f'ing my life up instead of doing something with it - I had to drop out of college cuz I was too busy getting high to study. He was disappointed in me, and so was I. I went to work in the same engineering company where he worked and was leaving for an out-of-town work assignment. As I was getting my stuff into the car, out of the blue he told me he loved me, and I told him the same and we shared a deep, warm embrace. I floated to the car - I had not been that happy in a long time. A month after I left, he died of a massive heart attack at the age of 39. I was 21. I don't know if I would ever have recovered if we parted unreconciled. Thanks Dad, for all you did for me, I love you still and I always will. I think you would be proud of me - I got my sh*t together, married a loving woman and we have a home, raised two grown sons, all of that made even better by two beautiful granddaughters.

The beginning of the song and video is so crushingly sad, but I love how it evolves from there to the end. If you weren't listening to the lyrics, the bridge would sound triumphant. So his heart reclogged 100% and he was to weak to fight a second one. And he was gone out of nowhere. From what I gather, the song was originally a poem written by his sister and adapted into a song by James.

Hey y'all! Amazing song from an amazing artist! Beautifully written, he has a story for sure. Another artist who has a lifetime of his story within the minutes of his songs is Ren, a songwriter and singer from Wales. I found Ren from his masterpiece Hi Ren. It's one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard. But he can do anything with perfection: rap, play multiple instruments, records live, street performances, etc. He is quite literally perfect and he has had a hard life of being misdiagnosed of Lyme Disease. He has something for everyone and sings on quite controversial topics. Give him a chance, to me he's perfection.

Worth checking out James' "No Bravery" song written about what he saw in the British Army while serving with NATO in the Kosovo War in the late 90s. It's brutal and moving and sadly still relevant to this day. The guy is a legit war hero! For something more cheerful of his, check out "Bonfire Heart". James is a brilliant storyteller and will always get you to feel stuff, whether that's joy or sadness.

My dad passed away on May 26, 2006 after battling cancer and lasting 2 years longer than they gave him. I was there when he passed. This song reminds me of everything I felt during his struggles. I'm not your son, you're not my father, we're just 2 grown men saying goodbye describes our relationship very well.

I lost my daddy over 40 years ago and this song makes me ugly cry every time. But its ok, because it can be cathartic when needed. The only way I can sometimes get through it is if I don't watch his pain filled eyes and just listen.

When this was filmed James blunts dad was dying. He didn't have alot of days left. He had stage 4 kidney disease. Usually you can live a normal life with just one kidney but Charles (James dad) had already donated one of his kidneys away, so there was not whole lot more they could do. A distant cousin saw this video and got in touch with the family. He then went to check himself and to see if he was a match for James's Dad (Charles Blount). He was and Charles is now alive and well... Amazing!

@@antonioviana7645 Yep, its a pretty amazing story. Both James and his sister tried to donate but they weren't a match so this one cousin coming out of nowhere was a miracle.. So if James Blunt never published this video... His dad might not have been alive right now.

That right there is a man who is so unquantifiably proud of his son, A man that will surely die happily knowing his task as a father is completed to a piont he never expected to achieve. Ace and Kathy, i've never seen one of your reactions before, your reactions are pure, crying on camera is no big deal, i'm a UK male and I perform, in public, I cannot listen to or perform this song without crying, often to the piont where I cannot finish the song due to the uncontrolled sobbing. Music is not only the sound, it is the emotion, the memory, the taste, the smell, the comprehension and compasion, even the vision of something never seen. The ability to portray all of this is a gift that James has in abundance, his Father will be proud of his sons military carear, but even prouder of his talent and love!

Wanted to tell him but in the end it was too late. He didn't recognize me anymore. Do it now... tel your loved one's how important they are NOW... ❤

His father is living well now, but what I think is remarkable is that it was this video that helped save his father's life. A distant relative saw the video when it first came out (there apparently was a lot of publicity in England about it) and decided to get tested, was found to be a match, and donated a kidney. The transplant surgery took place less than one month after the video came out.
