@@janthran It's both. Like third places are way harder to find but they still exist. This combined with avoidant behaviours make it very often not socially acceptable to talk to people. But just because it's not socially acceptable doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.

@@janthran Go outside and look, then you won’t have to wonder anymore. Obviously it depends on where you live, but generally speaking, yes, third places are disappearing. Where I live, if something isn’t expressly dedicated to making a profit, it’s deemed useless. Art is now either commodified or it’s superfluous. My hometown town used to be full of clubs and social organizations, one by one they’ve all disappeared. For example, my small town of approximately 5000 people used to have a marching band that was nearly the size of an orchestra *and* a large jazz ensemble, both consisting of grown adult musicians who met regularly, just because they loved playing music. The costs of their practice spaces were partially covered by the local government, and partially donated by local businessmen. The marching band had a dedicated workshop that repaired and maintained their instruments. These things are absolutely unthinkable now. Nobody has the time, nobody has the money, and honestly I doubt that we still have the talent. These are only two examples from a long list. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard the line, “Nice idea, but who’s gonna pay for it?” The closest thing we have now are bars, where people pay to drink until they either forget their misery or wallow in it. I’m happy for you that you’ve not experienced this, but I can assure you that my local experience is not even close to being unique.

Nobody really needs to read this, but I just wanted to say it somewhere. My whole life I've always been thinking, just endlessly thinking about stuff, and Jreg is the only person I've really seen that seems to think about the same stuff in the same way. A lot of the personal stuff he talks about and concepts from his art (frameworks, dissociation, "it") are things that I have also experienced and thought about. A lot of Jreg videos feel like someone's reaching into my brain and communicating and organising my thoughts better than I ever could. Some of it is confirmation bias, surely, but it still makes me happy to see someone say these things and not be all alone with this stuff, really enhances that parasocial feeling. I guess my point is that Jreg's art really resonates with me, specifically. None of my friends understand so I'm telling the techno-psychic micro singularity.

29:05 "That's what art *is*, it's a tool to make people conscious." This actually made me realize - I can't think of a single video of yours that I didn't give my full attention to while watching. It's hard to fully break down just *why* that is, but I think part of it is that putting your videos on in the background while scrolling around would be a lot like scrolling around while someone is vomiting in front of you. I don't mean that in a derogatory way, at least entirely - I mean in the sense that, like, it's hard to watch someone **expel** shit like that and not look away, y'know? There's just something sort of gross, in a lot of different ways but not least of which in a "gross for the soul" sort of way, to making something like that your background noise. The irony of your irony is that it doesn't really do anything to mask the very *visceral* and emotionally raw energy of your work. I'd say it makes it more intense at times, because you're that much more focused on the present content than uncovering the person behind it. I actually really connect with a lot of it as someone who deals with his own shit to expel, and that really does mean something to me. It often leaves me walking away with the same feelings only a very intense and meaningful piece of cinema can, and for that I commend you. As much as it can hurt sometimes, it *is* genuinely good at shocking me awake and getting me to think about things. The problem I run into, I think, is that pain like that can only work so much at getting you conscious. Eventually, it just becomes another stimulant, and you begin to stop caring about the irony and genuinely wonder what's going on behind there - something I know you semi-openly pseudo-despise, which is probably part of the reason why 70% of the commenters here avoid saying anything and just comment ironic catchphrases, but the thing about all this blending of reality and hyperreality is that I feel like at this point what you actually feel beneath all the obfuscation is what you're actually already saying. There is nothing you're just venting, nothing you're just rattling chains about or making fun of - this is just it. And I think that's part of why I fluctuate on being deeply intrigued and deeply infuriated by you, because it in a way makes all the talk about being "conscious" bullshit - thinking entails more than just jolting people up with pain. What's the point of acting like there's more to it than the pain when there's really not? Why pretend like wanton accelerationism is the key to making things better when it's really just glorified self-harm? I try to keep a cool head and believe that you're not as bad as that - if not because the best of your videos make me think so, than only because you and your community would point and laugh at me for thinking otherwise - but I wonder if you would point and laugh because you really *aren't* as bad as that, or because pointing and laughing is all you can do. I hope, as a wise man once said, you're doing better. Maybe not okay, but better.

When Jreg said "In response to some of the arguments in this section, someone may say "Society must find a way to give people the opportunity to go through the power process." For such people, the value of the opportunity is destroyed by the fact that society gives it to them. What they need is to find or make the opportunities. As long as the system gives them their opportunities, it still has them on a leash. To attain autonomy, they must get off that leash." I felt that.

Couple 4th wall Psycho Mantis moments that kinda freaked me out: The feeling you described where you felt uncomfortable when people ask you what you've been doing with your life is basically the same as a constant anxiety of mine and something I've almost verbatim confided to some people. Also, I actually had you on a second monitor when you called that out, but by that point I was actually fully invested in the video and had abandoned concentrating on whatever was on the main monitor (a blog), and moved it over after a couple minutes. Dunno what to say about the rest of it, especially since I'm also someone floating through the vector of the inertia initiated by a past self who decided that I should be an artist. I just feel bad, but in a sorta productive, I guess? At least it's not 40 minutes of Mario 64 liminal space porn or whatever vapid shit I choose to fall asleep to these days

Soon i might get the chance to rise up enough to spit in my gods face. sure il get smitten afterwards but hey, few can say they spat in IT's face. i wont die of old age or of suicide, there is a bullet out there with my name on it, but you are dead wrong if you think im gonna be the one to shoot it. -some internet lunatic

When I was 11 years old, I stared at a can of coke that someone threw onto my parents lawn. Here I was on a beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky, just enjoying the sun, and advertising was literally being THROWN at me. Why? Why was the reality in which I occupied? Why must I be subjected to coke advertisements, what is this pain I am feeling and why doesn't anyone stop it? So I stared into the sun on that cloudless day to find the answer. After the brightness made my vision go completely dark Jreg; I saw IT. I saw the reflection at the end of our humanity's existence. There is no escaping IT, you cannot run from IT. Nahhh, don't worry, you only saw an infinienth of it, nothing to worry about! I mean how can you say It will come about while It has always been there, is retroactively being here and can never be there? All cool! If you just saw It in your own dimensional spacetimeframe, then how can you think that was It if you're not currently, eternally and never seeing it as well? Really nothing to worry about! I am caught between the human need to love/be loved and the bitter taste of the suffering I've been glut-toning myself on. I often am intrigued by the way you see the world and the humor of your art but I am simultaneously despaired by the state it has left you in. This is definitely one of the better "youtuber talks about being a youtuber" videos out there. I rate 4.5/5. On a more serious note, I think that sharing art is not it. The risk of doing the art for something other than for art's sake grows too big. The purest way of experiencing art imho is by creating something and fully embracing the beauty of it yourself or maybe with a close person. This is why instead of sharing art to millions I think people should focus on training others to see their potential as creative beings, their potential of experiencing the beauty of reality. Ontology and epistemology would do good things to you Jreg. To realize that subject and object, the Atman and the Brahman are the same... That's when you really accept the situations we live in and can finally be at peace.

So this is interesting. This era started on Jreg trying his hardest to exist as a normal person - he pretty much tried to claim he wasn't mentally ill anymore, he pretended to exist in a world that "normal" people exist, but he couldnt't do it. That lead into the next "act" of this era that started with "Learning to be alone", where it became clear that it wasn't possible due to the lack of real communities. A lot of the videos past this point are meant to show how this new internet age screws up a lot of stuff and how stupid it is and how it's all because of lack of communities. It all finally culminates in this video in which Jreg realises he wants to accept "It" and that it may be the only way out. It feels like the thesis of this era very well connects with the previous Jreg eras that were focused on politics and mental illness. Honestly, I'm kinda impressed by how well everything fits the "story" of this era and that it communicates it's points so well. There were so many videos in this era that force you to reflect on stuff in ways the previous Jreg eras felt a bit afraid to.

I think this gets at the idea that in our current day and age there’s a certain psychosis, some sort of sickness necessary to be normal. In a world we were fundamentally not made for is not about how we can make a world we belong in, but how the world can make us fit within itself.

Of course, the latter half of the video is Irony, but I also understand you well enough to know you really are thinking those thoughts. That's why they are presented here. So I just felt the need to remind you that we really do appreciate your art, and you absolutely should keep creating this high effort stuff. If this whole video was an attempt to get people to subscribe to your patreon, then it worked. I realize now that you really do deserve some of my money for you to keep on making this kind of stuff. section about chains is almost exactly the lessons I learned with much difficulty between 20 and 28. structure, accountability, and unpleasant effort is all essential for meaning. If I want a put a peach tree in my neighborhood, first I have to dig a big hole. I really hated digging that hole, but the process of doing it and planting the tree creates meaning and accomplishment. Everybody has their own way of making meaning, and many are obsessed with proving that their source of meaning is life is the best. It's important to not let others' PR fool you into chasing a source of fulfillment that isn't actually fulfilling to you. You're always accountable to someone or something, that's okay. There is no true independence, and that's good - most people who are totally independent from society are outcasts and sociopaths. The people I respect the most are actually deeply enmeshed within in a community, a company, a movement, a family. The people I respect the most give up their time to the things they care about, such that huge parts of their lives are heavily structured and choreographed, all so that they can have impact beyond themselves.

The only way to escape narcissism is through loving the other. Narcissism is believing that "The world is ending, I am ending. This is the greatest tragedy of all." When a truly conscious person (as you put it) observes the ending of all things, and they can breathe and acknowledge that it's still a miracle to be alive and honestly love others. Don't fall into your persona and expect to not implode in excess or suicide. Wishing you well. It's hell out here. I don't know you. But I hope you can give the love you wish to receive too. It's really rare but you're an intellegent and thoughtful person. Your contradictions will be resolved by those other people who adore you and want you to thrive.

I'm gonna try to be as unironically and clear as possible in this one. I believe I found this channel at the exact right point of my life. I've been watching you since centricide and through every era of your channel you have given me a plethora of tools to conceptualize myself and the world. In the begining, just being able to disassociate from my belief system enough to understand it's mechanics and compare it to others was a big step on my growth as person. It's a step which I often find people who are intolerant of others' beliefs have yet to take. This is perhaps the first of your videos where it felt, worryingly, as though you had nothing left to teach me. But I hope I'm wrong.
@APaleDot
@APaleDot 7 месяцев назад
This stuff was always lurking in the background of Centricide. I don't know if you went down the rabbit hole that is Centricide 7, but it very much ties into the themes expounded in Frameworthless, which also came out in the midst of Centricide. And let's not forget he made I'm a Spook at essentially the same time Centricide started, which is really just the baby version of this video. I'm a Spook is where JReg first articulated the sci-fi horror aspect of online profile-building, so I think Centricide was always meant to be a vessel for these themes of frameworks and the hyper-ego. It's the slop surrounding the medicine, so to speak. Political compass memes were a useful hook to get you interested in these more abstract themes.

The corrosion of passion started when your passions became your survival. Bleak is the mind of the man riddled with confusion. You, in the broad sense, claw so desperately for accuracy of understanding of experience through the means of language. It’s suicide yet potentially salvageable through recreational purpose or-in other words-art. So to describe such a state of arousal of the mind as it transitions across multiple layers of insincerity means you effectively break through the screen and remind us that we all are a little less alone in experience while in the absence of tangible communities. The loneliness consumes but your digital ghosts can have positive consequences within a world not of its own. That’s quite interesting if nothing else.
