Free will - freedom to do what you want. In the Bible Paul talks of finding freedom in the Messiah. It doesn't mean freedom to break the laws of nature but freedom of joy with playing with nature. The world becomes full of endless possibilities. You can literally do what you want. It's beautiful.

Free will is an illusory phenomena that arises from interactions of two sides of bicameral mind, when seen as one entity.

You would be right if you also claimed that the hallucinations of the bicameral mind are also illusions. But have you considered that they are not illusions and are actually real in some sense? My own belief is that it would be accurate to say that the hallucinations can exert free will over the body, it may sound radical but it can be shown to be consistent.

@@nexusvoid314 Real in what sense? What is real? I see existence and reality as illusory, so for me this problem does not arise. And it does not mean that I am some form of a detached idealist, not at all, I just study phenomenology of existence, and the power of assumptions. If we look at the dual nature of the mind in a proper way, it becomes clear that the idea of free will comes from applying objective thinking onto subjective willing. I can see that I am free from my(other)self which exercises will. It works both ways, like an endless struggle between two agents. I can decide to go against my will, or I can act against my understanding. This creates a subjective experience of inner freedom, which is far more important than freedom from external factors. There is one more thing that plays a critical role, and it is the notion of the self. Objective mind can say "I am", but while doing so, it will always point to the other subjective mind. This mingling introduces a choice which appears to be always done by.. myself. Now that may sound radical, but what is not radical in exploring bicameral mind?

great points and i agree with you that we need to define the self clearly to understand free will. i think different understanding of the self is what leads to people to different conclusions on free will, we need to figure out the relation between the self and the will.

Yes very much so, in the next video I will make the distinction between the self as a material object and the self as a psychic object, and show that the psychic object can possess free will

If free will = capacity to achieve what we want, then it means that this entire universe is a giant prison or a game!
@nexusvoid314

That could potentially be the case, it might be a video game where the goal is to increase our free will as much as possible.

This is a more useful take than all the Sapolskys, Harrises and Connors touring the free will sphere at the moment. Side note to critique Sapolsky: Responsibility for actions taken won't seize to exist and depending on intent and information, the outcome of the sentence will differ. Thanks for this vid! If you find the interest to review EvoPsych, I'd like to watch that.

Free will is a scale from 1 to 100, I don't believe every action can reach 100% free will

Yes exactly, to have absolute free will is to be omnipotent, but people have only a small amount of free will.

5:44 my family cant understand the wanting something, then doing actions,and the actions fail, they just assume their actions will do what they want. (i guess i did that too with empty stuff.), instead of copying me for the ( ), theyre just blame it on me.

Free WILL is that human being can make they're own decision to live or die without any consequences or guilt 🎉 rejoice

Free will is not about having access to every possibility you want, is about having the possibility to choose an option between the ones you have access too... For example i can't have every food of the world in my fridge all the same time and maybe some types of food i won't even ever know that they exist, but this hasn't to do with free will, this is about "power". Free will is: i open my fridge and i see 3 options, so potentially i could pick any of these and in any combination, can i choose to do so? If the answer is yes than you have free will, if the answer is no than you have not; now i'll show you some clearer examples: 1- You talked about the freedom of speach, imagine a government that suppress with violence whoever talks about one topic; well, this limits my freedom in some sense because there is an obstacol to me talking, but at the same time i'm still free to talk and to be subjected to the consequences. 2- I think the biggest prove about free will is that we can take both rational and irrational choices in our life, for example, a computer hasn't free will because it acts only on someone else will, an AI hasn't free will because it acts only on rational choices, so there is a predeterminable outcome on what it will choose; a drunk person for example would take numerous irrational choices, that by their own nature are kinda unpredictable, but at the same time if you can take only irrational choices you are subjected by your irrational impulses so you can't really take true choices... But if you can take both actions at the same time than you are open to the free will, because my rationality suggests to take one choice, my irrationality instead guides me to take a different choice, in this moment i'm free to act on my rationality or irrationality and this is free will. I think that not everyone has necessarily free will, as i said, if you are completely out of your mind and you can't use rationality than you are not free of will, at the same time if hypothetically you have no emotions and no irrationality you are not free either.

In good substance until we have both consciousness and unconsciousness in our life we have free will. An other prove of free will in my opinion is the fact that we can change our mind, you can take a choice but change your mind and do something else in any moment, this means that our consciousness and freedom of choice acts costantly in our life and there isn't a predetermined outcome.

Isn't the problem of free will something different? Like is everything predetermined with only the illusion of us making choices or that choice making is real and not predictable.

I think you dismiss the causes of desire as they relate to free will too lightly. As biological beings, our lives are primarily subjected to fulfilling desires that are dictated by our pre-conscious emotions. Our capacity for reason and intellect are, at bottom, devices evolved to fulfill insatiable desires and not the rational, logical entities we may believe they are. It is only through a conscious act of will based on some well-thought out strategy, be it religious, philosophical or some other method, that we can begin to overcome this life dictated by desire in order to lend it a meaning beyond that of surviving and reproducing according to our biological imperative.
@nexusvoid314
@nexusvoid314 4 месяца назад
I will be discussing innate biological desires and why their existence still doesn't contradict the notion of free will, especially when you ask what you are attributing free will to.
