I could’ve let this monstera live in water forever but I decided to make the switch. For this soil mix, I’m using @solsoils house plant mix -use code PlantsKrystal10 for 10% off. The most common question was, why did I chose to not just break apart the root ball? If you look closer, you may see the crispy leaves, there were some stems with discoloration, and the remaining leaves were not forming well. So I made the decision to start again, regrow the roots, and watch it’s progress. I love trying different ways to grow my rescues! When transitioning from water to soil, the first two weeks, (with a well draining mix) keep the soil moist. That will help the plant acclimate to its different environment.
thank you soo much girl! I’ve been panicking lately bc out of nowhere, lots of my plants are having issues and I’m discouraged & overwhelmed. When having soo many plants, i tend to forget basic things I’ve learned from you & other plant channels & I run around in circles 😂😂 I literally take notes from your videos, it helps a lot to just go back into my phones notes & find key words relating to whatever issue I’m having.❤ we really appreciate your help, girl ☺️🤍
Krystal- what kind of grow lights do you have on that wall? I'm looking for something skinny like that for a new plant area in my home. You got a steal on that monstera!
Quick question. For propagation, new roots in water does the container have to be made of glass? Would other vessels like ceramic, steel etc also work?
@@personwithaquestion1800 I think people prefer glass cause they can track progress easily and see when water needs to be replaced ,but any container works! As long as it's big enough and doesn't leak you will be fine! (I'm a florist🌹)
@@anoninii thank you so much... I'm trying to propagate a monstera using a small stem the original plant is not growing at all and I can't find any new nodes to target and cut . I hope it works, if not will try to repot the plant.. your answer helped me tons thank you so much
Fun fact Mosteras actually have a front and a back to their vine! If you look at the nodes you'll see the aerial roots all come from one side of the stem and the leaves continue on the other side. When repotting, especially if you're trying to stake it up to grow vertical, you don't want to go by the direction the leaves are facing because they'll twist any direction to find the sun. You want to determine the direction of the petioles and if there are aerial roots formed, place them against the wood or moss. Happy planting!
What is the best location for monstera? I kept it in semi shade outdoors but my leaf growth in two years is terrible....I got only 5-6 leaves, and most of them fell off after getting injured by the strong winds ...
Lol same I bought a young monstera online but it turns out there was 9 plants in total so now my house has 5 pots and I'm experimenting on everyone of them obsessing over when the first leaves will fenestrate haha
A $2 orchid came home with me a few days ago because of this channel, and it’s been a real comfort to me. It’s been a really rough year, culminating in my father’s death a few weeks ago. The last three years my father battled dementia. It was utterly soul crushing to navigate the pandemic with small children and a father who was my best friend becoming a ghost of himself. We lost him at the end of April and while I thought I would feel relief that his suffering was over, I was not ready for how huge the grief has been. This channel has been a comfort to me. Then shopping at Kroger I saw a $2 orchid on clearance. After buying a stand, a pot, from Goodwill, the succulent repotting tools from your Amazon store (I have the poking tool now!)some orchid soil from Kroger my $2 orchid became a $30 orchid. But I set it up and have been caring for it. I feel like I did it wrong. Like I both cut off too many roots but also left too many white ones. But a week later it’s still alive. It has brought me so much joy, and is this subtle reminder that if I can value and care for a $2 orchid, I should also value an care for myself. Even if I feel like I have rot in my heart right now, it’s treatable. I just need some nutrients and light. So thank you. ❤
Im so sorry for your loss. I just want you to know that this channel gives me so much comfort too! Im struggling with poor mental health and ive decided to rescue and survive our root rotted old orchids, they are thriving right now! :-) taking care after them and changing their water makes me get up from my bed. I feel you in a different way and im wishing you peace and love 💐 take care
I wish you could rescue the plants from my house😅😭it’s been a journey so I’m trying again with a snake plant and leaving these heffers be, I think I bother them too much and-like most people-they do not care for me
Under your influence, I did my first repot tonight. My kindergartener brought home two baby bean stalks and they stayed alive despite me being the one taking care of them. Tonight each stalk got its own pot. It’s so nerve wracking separating out the roots! 😬
Your videos have been so extremely helpful in building my confidence to have indoor plants, thank you! Got inspired, and literally just got back from buying my own lil monstera.
I have an Asparagus Meyeri who had cemented himself in his pot like that. No bloody way to separate those roots! It was like a stone in the shape of a pot. I ended up sawing it in half, with a big wood saw... And planted each half in an other pot. They were grateful for the scission!
Ever since seeing your monsteras I’ve been in love with them. I now have 2 juvenile plants after my last mature one unfortunately succumbed to frost and rotted. And this week I got a cutting of Albo which is propping in moss so that takes my monstera collection up to 3!
I'm in the same situation, giant pot, only 2 leaves left. I wonder if I should do like in the video... Any thoughts? Should I just leave them in the new pot? Edit: to clarify, I bought it at discount since it was in really bad shape, that's why the pot was big but with only 2 leaves left
@@mikegleasonjr mines so bushy still, and still growing new leaves like crazy even though root bound. I’d probably try to propagate and try starting a new root system on yours, start from scratch if you have nodes of air roots.
Bless this channel for giving me the confidence to break apart root balls, i used to just replant them in a bigger pot or area still rootbound and hope it sorted itself out lmfao I live in a small town in canada and almost everything in the garden centres shows up barely even sprouted with next to no roots or basically rootbound already
They say monsteras like to be in tight pots but I kept my original in its own pot and grew cuttings in various sized pots. Every single new plant (and the original) are competing for who grows the fastest.
I like to resue sad little plants 😂. they survive I should have done this with the sad spider plant make a video from day one to now I rescued Marilyn Monroe last year and now she is big and beefy and thriving since she was dying in the store. lots of loving. than yeah from there on out. plant addiction 😂 plants make me happy
Iv saved so many plants from Lowes and Home Depot 😂 I am glad I am not the only one. It's like a mission to find the worst plant and see if I can save it with my green witch skills ❤
I recently bought a philodendron white knight and it lost all it's roots within like a week of me buying it lol and now it's in water and it's regrowing roots and seems to be doing great lol
I love your channel ❤ I’ve learned so much! I found you while looking up orchids… and just last week I found two perfectly fine orchids discarded in the neighborhood trash can! You best believe I rescued them! They are now growing happily in my home 😊
Its crazy that people toss them out once the original blooms fade. I've had mine for years and mine grow a new stalk and rebloom roughly 3x a year. And I'm no expert on orchids !
Hello! Thank you so much! The nodes have two babies leaves 🥹 I have many grow lights but I have either the mother grow lights or the barrina t5 grow lights from Amazon
@@PlantswithKrystal thanks since I started watching your videos I have a acquired more house plants and what used to be a shelf of succulents now has a variety of other species thank you some much for your humor and encourage give Pablo a pat on the head from me❤️❤️🌵
Also I was so happy when you started posting longer videos I commented on one of your Pinterest posts asking for longer videos and about a week later you posted one❤️
Afew weeks ago i found 3 fresh from the seed baby monsteras all in the same pot for £2.50 all together. I had been wanting more monsteras to help make my current one more bushy and oh boy, knowing how quickly and how big they can grow those three little babys felt like a personal GIFT 🙌🙌
😱😱😱 "WHAT IN THE RAMEN- NOODLES" is FRiGGiN RiGHt !!! wow....holy-moly-macaroni !!! ..w-🤔-wait a minu--☝️😮 🙌 [truly] unintentional noodle🍝🍜 double-whammy FTW~~ ***sidenote- while i [proudly] scanned the emoji list for noodles, i spotted the good 'ol classic SOFT PRETZEL which also wouldve been a choice comparison......albeit sans that killer double whammy... **💁♀️just saying💁♀️*** #tmyk ahem... ANYWHO... This Monstera's TANGLED HAWSER of a friggin root system took the idea of liking to be "snug in their pots" to a level so far past being "root-bound" that it had you screaming to the spanish gods for guidance lol..and the only acceptale answer was to rip the fucker apart and completely start over 😂
I bought a "dead" plant from my local supermarket, the checkout lady gave it to me for free because she said its practically dead. 10 months later it is absolutely beautiful and thriving, everyone who comes round sees it always compliments it. I feel like a proud momma
So I’m curious, and I’ll preface by saying I’m a plant novice. In some videos, I’ve seen people cut the bottom of the root system and replant. Why this method of separating the stems instead?
We went to Florida 47+yrs ago for our honeymoon and went to a greenhouse and bought 2 monsteras . Drove back to Wisconsin in a packed van with one near my feet and one on my lap. Really wanted those plants !! They currently reside in large pots in the living room by an eastern set of double patio doors. ❤
