The fact that he made No more parties in LA on his iPad says enough
@Pharcyde139
@Pharcyde139 8 месяцев назад
I wouldn't believe everything he says about what was made on an iPad. He states he uses an iPad mini (came out in 2012, beat was made in 2010) maybe he upgraded later down the line, but not many DAW apps were about then. Not saying he didn't make it on the iPad for this particular one, but something to think about. He also states Bandana was created on an iPad. The beat for massage seats was used for a BLU song in 2012 called "Funky Cowboy Meets The Funky Drummer" The middle of Fake Names was originally a beat Track 25 on Raw Cake 4, which came out in 2007. There are a lot more examples of this, which you can dig and see for yourself. Madlib is still one of, if not my favourite, producer. This is not shade at him, but unless he is a time traveller - not all the beats he claims were made on an iPad were actually made on one

@@b1slee267oh for sure. I think he likes messing with people tbh, having the majority of people think it was all done on the iPad when it really wasn't, he might get a kick outta that. Either way, he's a beast. I've made beats on an iPad, personally can't imagine choosing that over an MPC. They're good for sketching ideas here and there. I know big productions can be done on them, but it's a lot more janky than using equipment and a computer

Over the last 25 years, Madlibs music is so incredibly diverse. The Quasimoto beats are totally different to the Freddie Gibbs stuff, which is then totally different to the Jaylib & Madvillainy and shades of blue beats. But you’ll find similar trends across most of these albums which relates to where he sources his samples - bollywood & Brazilian soul for example

Madlib for me has always been the distillation of simplicity over complexity, when it comes to beats. Simplicity meaning not adding unnecessary complexity to samples but instead musically looping and reshaping them. Idk if that makes sense totally, but definitely feels like he's collabing with the original artist to createsomething raw, new or flipping it entirely. When I first heard Raid on Adult Swim watching The Boondocks back in 2000 whenever, it kicked off something for me sound wise, there's just something about the way he makes a beat that calls back to that feeling of watching Swim bumps in your living room late at night or riding the bus in LA.

The part about having the same resources and samples MADLIB has is really inspiring. One of my favorite things about the modern era is how low the walls to creation have become. Yes, it's lead to a lot of uninspired stuff by people just trying to make a buck, but the fact that every potential producer is empowered through the sheer amount of resources we have access to now and can potentially reach the same level as the Madlibs or Dillas through refining their craft and just working at it, without worrying about being priced out or running out of samples is truly beautiful and inspiring to me.

To piggyback on your labels comment: labels back in the day were also considered to be “houses” where a lot of the same musicians, gear, studios, tracking, mixing and mastering engineers were used for multiple recordings and gave the label an entire sonic character. WB vs Columbia vs Motown vs CTI., the List goes on, all had their own sound… check it out! 🤘🏾
