What Flooring Is Best For Kitchen Floors?
We get this question all the time! There isn't a simple answer, but this video will explain the considerations of 3 major contenders:
Hardwood Flooring - more expensive, BEAUTIFUL, can be waterproof
Vinyl Plank Flooring - less expensive, waterproof, can have issues with marring/scratching of the surface
Porcelain Tile Flooring - More expensive, waterproof, resistant to scratching/surface damage
If you have more remodeling questions, please send them to homeloveconstruction@gmail.com and we will be happy to answer them in future videos!

Excellent video! Extremely informative. I have an open floor plan and want to do engineered wood floors but I'm scared to put them in the kitchen. After seeing this video, I think I'll opt for tile in the kitchen.

Great! That is definitely my recommendation. Very few people ever regret doing tile in their kitchen, it’s so much more hardy of a material for what is basically a working area of your home.

Thank you this is the best video on this subject by far! I did subscribe and like! We have decided to go with porcelain tile. Our next decision is whether or not to have the tile laid down before the cabinets go in. I think I would prefer that. My understanding of course is that there are pros and cons with that as well because it’s tall I would think that it would be less likely to get damaged during the cabinet install.
@HomeLoveConstruction
@HomeLoveConstruction Год назад
You should be able to pretty safely put cabinets in over tile without messing it up. If you put in the tile 2nd just be sure you have trim to cover the gap

Would like to hear your thoughts about using Mohawk RevWood Select flooring product in Kitchen. I like to have the whole house installed with laminate for consistency, but am concerned about any potential leakage from refrigerator. While RevWood Select is supposed to be Waterproof, nothing beats waterproof than tiles. So I am torn between consistency and waterproof.

We had porcelain tile installed in the kitchen, laundry room, bathroom and interconnecting halls. Every room has cracks in the tile or chips on the surface or both. I'm now trying to figure out what to replace it with. In addition, when a dish or glass falls onto it, the item shatters into a million pieces and travels 15 or more feet in some cases. Plus, I cannot find the identical tile anymore to potentially replace the broken ones. Not a fan anymore.
@HomeLoveConstruction

Fair enough. Would recommend waterproof laminate. It’s a great product. It is like vinyl except it’s hard enough to not scratch

Luxury vinyl plank is becoming the big thing in California. Why, because you forgot to factor in two things...it can come with a cushion to it, and it offers soundproofing. The soundproofing is great for homes that have cathedral ceilings up to the bedroom areas. Also, as our population ages (me for example) we have difficulty standing for long periods on hard surfaces or our bones break easily if we fall on porcelain tile. I want something easily cleaned, cushioned for comfort, great for pets, and able to help damper the sounds that emanate from downstairs to my bedroom. Plus, luxury vinyl planks are a lot easier to remove when you want to replace the flooring. As it is, I'm going to pay a fortune to have my living room tile removed. Plus I get to look forward to a house full of dust when I do remove the tile.

Great video. I have a 1940’s house in SoCal and I’m removing a load bearing wall between the dining room and kitchen for a kitchen reno. I’ll need a single flooring for both areas now. The rest of the house is original white oak. Since I’ll now be able to see a transition in flooring I am unsure what to use. I like tile and don’t want to mix fake looking wood with the original oak…. Would u recommend wood look tile or luxury vinyl?

It’s really hard trying to decide what is best for my home, tile which I’m not really a fan of because I don’t like dirty grout, and most of all I’m afraid my husband will fall and get hurt. I thought about vinyl and now you say it has travel marks. Hard wood you have to be careful of water and my German shepherd loves to scratch the floor before he lays down. This is such a hard decision. If I do tile that looks like wood will it still show grout lines?
@HomeLoveConstruction
@HomeLoveConstruction Год назад
Yes, tile that is wood look shows grout lines. Unless you do very very small grout lines like 1/16 inch which is very very small and if you match the color of the floor it will blend right in!

What about real hardwood flooring? We love 3/4" red oak but we would like to install in-floor radiant heat. Can't do that under hardwood. So we are considering tile in order to have the heat option. But you just can't go wrong with real 3/4" hardwoods! We have had them in many kitchens and they are fantastic. Decisions, decisions...
@HomeLoveConstruction
@HomeLoveConstruction 5 месяцев назад
Hardwood is awesome but yes you’re right that they don’t work for radiant heat. Too good of an insulator. Tile is your best bet.

If i do tile in the kitchen what would you recommend in the family room ans living room on same floor
@HomeLoveConstruction
@HomeLoveConstruction 2 года назад
Either continue the tile or transition to a nice hardwood if you have the option. You can also do a vinyl plank or laminate but your tile will have a slight step down to the floating floor

Wouldn’t recommend ceramic. Only porcelain. There’s no need to use ceramic as the prices are very close and porcelain is denser, more durable and less likely to chip

Hate wwod planks in the kitchen, and anything dark. Not crazy about porcelain tiles although it's a better product, but it's cold in the winter. Whatever happened to linoleum sheet goods? It's waterproof, and many do look good, and cleaning is a snap. It makes the most sense for kitchens. We gotta get beyond the look of plank, and I won't fall into the trap of any salesman that wants to sell plank anything.

Me too. I absolutely love linoleum. Not sure but I think the stuff we like isn't made the way it used to be anymore because of chemicals, offgassing, the environment, whatever -- I love linoleum sheets and tiles. Right now I have to put that hideous LVT in my kitchen -- it's the ugliest thing on earth, drab, matt finish, the fake stone looks like road kill and the wood planks for some reason the boards all look really different and people like that, but why? We used to stain our hardwood floors to make the color even. The LVT looks like a barn floor or something hokey. So you've got my sympathies. There is a product called Marmoleum, check it out. Cheers
@lostinmyspace4910
@lostinmyspace4910 2 года назад
@@garypuckettmuse Yes, Marmoleum has always been on my mind as it looks good and you can pick and choose so many styles, colors, patterns. I have a beautiful linoleum product in our bathroom, it's primarily burgundy in color, has a sheen, with a lot of texture for slippage, and it has many small color dots, some blue, some tan, dark burgundy, and dark brown...like marble specks...it' wonderful and fits the bathroom perfectly. I'll never change it, it's that great of a selection and, no shoe traffic. Everyone's gotta have ceramic or marble, that's cold and there's maintenance.
