Bought a cassette tape of his when i was in high school in the late 70's, my mom took it over and played in the kitchen while cooking, I didn't complain.
Maybe it's a sad story. But it could also have been a feast. Maintaining that whole circus - phew!!!! : "Well heryagoo. Here's Twittyland foreya. And 80 hrs a work, a week!"
My Momma went to school with him in Arkansas. She loved telling that story. She passed away in 04 so I continue to share her story. I adored Conway. "Hello Darlin" is my favorite. I listen to his music faithfully. RIP MOMMA AND CONWAY
A SUPER COOL guy! When I was a kid, mom n dad took us to the Twitty City amusement park... We were in line early in the morning, dad was standing there with us and says to my brother and I- "theres Conway Twitty, over there"... I guess Conway noticed dad and my brother and I, and he sort of motioned "come over here", which we did. Conway took is into a really big barn and showed us his big collection of old AMC Pacer cars! We had as much fun doing that as we did at the theme park. That's one of my favorite memories.
@@Alpha11 You bet! Mr. Jenkins treated us like he knew us for years that day! One thing I've noticed is how "normal" or "regular" big stars USED TO be.... Dad was a pretty well known mechanic/body man back in the 60s/70s/80s, and knew several personalities and wealthy people... They were almost all like family to us. And they were really down to earth, unlike today. Times certainly have changed.
My wife and I saw Conway Twitty at the Calif. Mid-State Fair about two months before he died. I can't believe that's been 26 years ago! Time moves so fast.
steve laughton it really does. And I think a lot of people at the time would agree that his death was a real shocker. He wasn’t that old either. He’d be 86 if he were alive today.
@@alextepe4309 I think it was in late July or early August of '92 that we saw him in concert. So it was about 10 or 11 months before his death. At the time, I didn't notice anything that would have indicated that he was ill. He assumed his famous profile against a tall oak tree there and sang his songs. His voice sounded ok though he didn't have that much repoire with the audience.
Always loved me some Conway Twitty and was such a sad day when he passed and only '59 years old 😎 thanks so much for sharing and keep videos like this coming, always great and informative
Having been born and raised in Zimbabwe 52 yrs ago my peers have never understood my love for country music.Conway is one of the reasons why I’ll love this genre of music till the day they plant me in my grave.
Conway died when his Abdominal Aeortic Aneurysm (tripple A) burst. This is a hereditary condition that causes a major blood vessel to swell. Left untreated it can burst once it gets larger than 5 centimetres. My grandfather died from this condition. I was luckier when mine was detected through a CT scan and repaired with a stent.Today the odds of survival from a burst Tripple A are 20%.
Conway Twitty will always be the Greatest Country Music Performer to ever take a stage.I had the Honor of seeing him perform at 6 shows in my life and I will never forget the affect he had on everyone in attendance. He had everyone wanting more.I always do two or three of his songs when I do a show because he was and is my Favorite performer of all time and I am doing my part to keep his music and his memories Alive.I will always remember the day he passed away because I was being rushed to the hospital for a very large Kidney Stone when they announced it on the radio and I was in even more pain then and felt as much as I was hurting that I was about to join him.
I loved Conway Twitty he was awesome..his family should be ashamed of themselves squandering away all that poor man worked hard to attain. I know that it wasn't easy being on the road entertaining night after night. RIP sleep well sir..GOOD NIGHT...
Conway had the most #1 hits ,31 I think, for along time until George Straight broke the record. At last count he was at 53. And may a curse befall the Twitty/Jenkins family for their greed and lack of reverence.
A great artist & song writer. On another note, no matter how much or how little you have, be sure to have a will (A TRUST is better) before you die. Your failure can & does split families. I have personal knowledge!
Conway's widow, Dee, is the reason that Twitty City was sold and all of his belongings were auctioned off. She was greedy and screwed his children over. However, his children won in the end because she can't use Conway's image or anything now.
We've done a lot, actually. Marty Robbins, Patsy Cline, Faron Young, and Little JImmy Dickens to name a few. Check them out if you haven't already. Thanks, Don!
And you did a great job with them. I have them all. How about more like Mel Tillis, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, George Jones, Eddy Arnold to name a few.
Thanks for sharing and uploading these awesome oldies, singers. I met Conway Twitty, back in the late 70's at a rest stop, enroute to Houston, Tx. I noticed his bus, and told my driver to stop, I needed to use the bathroom, which I didn't, just wanted to meet Conway, which I did. He invited me on his bus, and the rest is history, (Just watched Buck Owens, Merle Haggard.) Thanks!
I used to see Conway on a near daily basis (when he wasn't touring) at the local Post Office. Kind & gentle soul. I loved the Christmas lights every year at Twitty City, but it created a traffic nightmare at the holidays! FYI The name of the town is pronounced Gal-u-tin, spelled Gallatin. His house was between me & Johnny Cash.
God that kind of reminds me of what happened when my mom's older brother uncle Mike past away in '08 and some money problem with his brother, my uncle Angelo, but anyways long story I liked Conway's music
Started drinkin with my older brothers when I was 13 years old. Immediately fell in love with Conway's singing. Was in Branson and saw Lorretta and planned on returning the following year as they performed at the same venue to see Conway, unfortunately he passed before I ever got the chance. I have a 4 CD set that I call my Bible. I still to this day get cold chills down my back listening to his deep voice. RIP
The high priest of country music! The guy could sing the phone book... Twitty city is NOT demolished trinity broadcasting bought it long time ago its called huckabee now or trinity city
Conway was one of the best singers ever. His shows were awesome. He was my friend and all his family was too. I grew up with him and played on his softball team. He even name me Deputy Dog. I still miss him very much. I had great times and memories of him, Mickey, wife, Mike, Jimmy, Joni, & Kathy, children. Thanks CT. RIP my friend!
I PULLED INTO SPRINGFIELD AND OVER THE RADIO I HEARD CONWAY WAS ADMITTED IN THE HOSPITAL IN SPRINGFIELD MO … AS I PASSED THE WELCOME SIGN … DIDN'T THINK MUCH ABOUT IT …. AS I WAS LEAVEING SPRINGFIELD PASSING SAME WELCOME SIGN THEY SAID HE PASSED AWAY … I HAVE ONLY BEEN PASSED THAT SIGN 1 TIME SINCE IT HAPPENED... I REMEMBERED THAT TRIP … RIP CONWAY I NOT ONLY REMEMBER FROM YOUR MUSIC BUT ALSO BY THAT DAMN SIGN …
It's sad that greed tore up what this man made for his family and the world in his carrier. You reap what you sew in the end you got nothing seems fitting somehow.
Jeff Bates has the voice of Conway. Jeff Bates has a song out that is called "Me & Conway" and he also did a cove song of Conway's called "I'd Love To Lay You Down".
With Elvis in the Army, the timing for "Its Only Make Believe" was perfect. Our bodies often hide silent killers in them as in the case of Twitty who seeming didn't have issues at the time. But you never know.
I hate that it ended that way it's a shame how awful the families of some great people are that they would sell all those family heirlooms it's just plain disgusting to me I love ole conway they should have shown him more respect when he passed
