Faron Young was one of the best-selling country artists of all time. Singer, songwriter, actor, and successful businessman -- there wasn't much this musical legend couldn't do.

This is a reminder to be a kinder person to everyone you meet because you never know what someone is carrying with them, even if their face is smiling.

I was in Nashville the day he shot himself and the radio stations stopped regular playing to pay tribute and play some of his songs. Really stunning. I'm not a huge country music fan but Young's an exception. This is real country music, not what's out today.

Faron always said it as it was , a true & honest man to the core , with a big big heart & personality & one of the greatest singers to grace the stage he helped & encouraged so many also, worked tirelessly for the Country music industry....but I guess when that devil in the glass gets a hold, It eventually leads the best of people to depression & sadly, you just cant find lost success in the bottom of a glass.....He was a most loved & missed performer....

Back when I was small, I will never forget my father having both Farron and Darryl McCall at our house one evening late, after a performance in Peoria, IL. Has always stuck with me, as we were nobody. Still cannot believe to this day, he took his own life. 😪

Absolutely adored him and his music after "Going Steady". After that until the sixties I memorized every song of his..Saw him in Atlanta twice. At the old Opry on Peachtree, he stopped, sat and chatted briefly with my husband and me. He had a quick sense of humor. So sad he never got to meet our Savior, he would be with us now. He is missed even today. Guess as a teenager I was secretly in love with him.

Worked at a McDonalds between an elderly woman and wild teenaged girl who wanted to tell all her teachers exactly what she thought of them upon graduation. I started singing “Burning bridges behind me” then turned to the older woman and said, “Bet she doesn’t know who Faron Young is.” The woman replied. “I sure do. He used to date my sister.”

Oh geeze, I cried when I heard this in the narration, "Haunted by the hard times and plagued by illness and depression, Faron Young died of a self inflicted gunshot in 1996. His ashes were scattered on Old Hickory lake on June and Johnny Cash's estate" (by his family while the Cash's were away. AKA: "Hillbilly Heartthrob", his singles reliably charted for more than 30 years prior to the advent of greedy corporate pop country. Note: the word 'western' is no longer part of the new, counterfeit country.

Faron and Ray Price define the sound that resonates with my memories of the true living in the late 60's early 70's in my world. A child of 8 - 12 during these years, my parents owned a successful successful Restaurant and Bar, born into the restaurant business, this establishment was unique to me, being in a small town in rural BE Tennessee and Our first to incorporate the "beer business". Necessary to achieve "the overhead and profit" necessary to maintain a family of 5 and our custom of lifestyle, after owning 5 restaurants that were all operating in tandem successfully in Chicago and having to had moved to achieve my Dad's personal goals, (he was from this area of judgemental awkward bigotry and fundamentalist Christian gossipy land referred to as "the Southerners Friendly Charm" (nosey and eager for any morsel of personal headline for the afternoon phone calls), I still shutter at the twisted reality of Country-South's bitter ways. The establishment includes a jukebox that provides what became the essence of the era and my early knowledge of some of the greatest music makers and vocal artist of both Country and Pop Standards. Clearly a classy sound of chart crossing music, Faron, Ray Price, and one that most forget accomplishing a sort of second career in this particular genre' Dean Martin (Send me the Pillow) they will always represent the style of the era and venue I hold as Class and Crossover in American Music of the 60's and 70's. Rock and Roll a separate and lasting presence, as well, with Sly, Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, and Clapton's amazing lineage -

No it is pulling yourself out of poverty, then having a boatload of money, only to find yourself back I the same shape you started in, and finding yourself too old to start over in life once again, knowing how hard it was to climb the ladder to success, I guess he figured he had already been there, done that,.... So he probably figured that he had seen all that life has to offer, and decided to check out on his own terms, before cancer, or a debilitating stroke, or something similar lay in store for him.

Great singer, great voice, and he usually used a traditional country sound on records & live shows. My two co-favorites of his are "Country Girl" and "I Just Came To Get My Baby Out Of Here". I think the talking narrative is from an extensive radio show Faron did with country D.J. Biff Collie who way back when I was a kid was on KFOX 1280 AM from Long Beach California and who also owned a popular record store nearby selling C&W exclusively. The recording of Faron with Biff is the definitive story of Faron's life and career. It was a special program honoring Faron and I think it was over an hour long.
@lancasterritzyescargotdine2602
James Hepburn OMG! Someone who remembers Biff Collie and KFOX in Long Beach! My fav. DJ was a man who called himself Squeakin' Deacon. He came on from 3 PM to 6 PM each day. Until 1968, the only other country and western station with a signal strong enough to reach LA was KWOW in Pomona. KGBS came along in 1968 with a modern format that deep-sixed all the cornpone comedy, religious bs, sleazy car dealers and other flotsam that characterized KFOX. That little record store was called Nashville Records, and it opened in 1965. It was smaller than a 1-car garage. All four walls were stacked from the floor to the ceiling with the latest C&W 45s. I worked at Mel Burns Ford jockeying cars around the summer I turned 19 and would set each radio to KFOX. When they played something I instantly liked, I'd detour over to Nashville Records and blow my lunch money on 45s. I was addicted to records and music the way people are to drugs and booze. I bought every Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Hank Snow, Hank Thompson, Roger Miller, Connie Smith, Loretta Lynn, Bill Anderson, Glenn Campbell, Johnny Cash, Statler Brothers, Porter Wagoner, Jim & Jesse, Waylon Jennings, Johnnie & Jonie Mosby, and lots of ''One Hit Wonders''. I'm 75 now, and still have each one in its original sleeve.

Interesting that no mention of Webb Pierce, the Guy who gave Faron his first exposure on the country scene by adding him as a member of Webb's band

Thanks for watching; there was a lot we had to exclude. We try to give a summary of the high (and low) lights of each person's life.

Faron was part of the greatest era in country music 50s 60s 70s. It can't be called country music these days, its rock/pop with fake twang.

My cousin Bobby grew up in the 50's and was a huge Faron Young fan. He passed away in 99 and they played Live Fast Die Young at his memorial along with other FY songs.

I never knew what happened. It seems like he had everything and lost it all. What a shame.

I also referred to him as Uncle Faron. All of my childhood memories center around him. I remember Red Hayes his fiddle player and when he passed away. I remember Cootie his drummer and Ray Emmett. Uncle Faron was always in our home. He bought me my easy bake oven as a child. He sang this little girl of mine to me on Austin city limits. Me and my brother had the run of his bus. I will never forget at buck lake ranch in Indiana I brought my first boyfriend on the bus to meet uncle Faron and he totally embarrassed me by telling about changing my diapers. Uncle Faron is not some entertainer my best memories as a child included him on several occasions. I even have a in memory tattoo for uncle Faron is how much apart of my life he was and still is in my heart and in my memory he will always live. Love and miss you Uncle Faron RIP💕

How very sad, he was born with many gifts compared to others - very talented, a terrific set of vocal cords, healthy and handsome, yet, in a moment of despair, he took his own life. I wonder how much his father's disapproval of him affected his sense of worth, ot if it was something else ? Either way, very sad.

in the late 60s early 70s he played in Topeka,Ks...after the show is over most of the singers sat on folding chairs at the front of the stage signing autographs..a lady said to Faron that he hadn't done Hello walls..he said your roght a yelled back for someone to bring his guitar..he sat there and did the whole song for a handful of us standing there.!!.RIP Faron
