Don't forget that new jazz is derived from rage beats, but Russia is saturating the fuck out of that microgenre to the point it sounds formulaic. Ok's production for Osamason reminds me of the beats on a great chaos but more interesting
Rage was a hot commodity because it was new and refreshing during a point where we were transitioning from the Emo/ melodic era of rap music. It was a perfect storm and I feel like SoFaygo was one of the first people to really make a "rage" song and that 2019-2020 period was when he was at his hottest and most influential so when he dropped 'Off The Map" it was bound to catch on like wildfire. Combine that with, like you said, the massive hit that "Miss The Rage" was and you had a formula for a sub-genre to explode. We also have to remember that MTR was a direct response to covid and everyone missing raves, live concerts, and just human interaction as well, so MTR made people fein for that experience even more so it got boosted even more by our desire to hear it live and experience it with others. After all the mandates were lifted and we were able to "rage" again, the novelty of the sub genre was gone, and people began to oversaturate it like hell to the point where it was the equivalent to McDonalds, watered down and EVERYWHERE. I like how it has evolved and now we have a lot of variations of it, but it's honestly just a case of a trend living its lifespan and dying, leaving room for innovation from its corpse to follow. It was fun while it lasted, and it's still here in some capacity now so it's not dead, just tired and overused now.
@@worldview3182yeh Ik I was mainly just saying who made it blow fr. Cause Pierre’s stuff was really the precursor to Rage imo, it wasn’t quite the same but he for sure laid the foundation, his was always on the more chill vibey side and it really blew up when people like Faygo, Yeat, Uno made it more high energy but you’re for sure right
You should make a series on the rise/fall of these underground genres. Hyperop,Rage,Pluggnb,DigicoreSigilKore,Breakcore,Aesthetic Rap,New Jazz, and eventually Jerk.
@@navarex11fullsight it's pretty much dead, theres only a few artists actually doing good rn with pluggnb. lil shine ofc is #1, and i feel like if summrs gets his shi tg and drops a good album, he could make pluggnb more popular for a while.
I don't mean to be disrespectful but rage was like fast food music. Fast food music is when a genre or when a style of music quickly blows up and then quickly falls off.
Being 24, the new underground artists making pluggnb and jerk music is so fire to me, even if some of it is hit or miss. It’s kinda like how established artists sample old soul samples and stuff, but 90s rnb / jerk music from ‘09/10 is closer to kids nowadays’ time than that stuff is. But yeah, it’s cool seeing kids take stuff we used to listen to in middle school and making it their own.
24 and grew up on jerk music? What years were you in middle school because I’m 2 years younger than you and by the time I entered middle school in 2013 jerk was long gone.
I'm trippin cuz I'm 29 & dudes back when IIII was in high school was doing jerk dances and jerk music. It's cool to see trends cycle ever 10-15 or so years
Uno lowkey created rage w Brooke’s interlude… Carti and ken and kinda Trippie popularized it. Then Trippie dropped the MOST GENERIC “rage” album and ruined it 😔
if rage comes back I think its only right to here it from the originator himself in my opinion is sofaygo, id love to see this dude on top of the game rn the only problem is for the love of god cant get this dude give his fans more of something to consistently support.
No one really is the originator Unotheactivist made rage songs on Limbus pt 2 in 2018 and Lite Fortunato and Ken carson hopped on a ragish beat by Outtatown also in 2018
Rage initially got popular through Travis Scott usage, miss the rage only came about because trippie heard off the map by sofaygo and did an entire album in that style like he did with summrs and mansion music
Everything has become too fickle for longevity due to everyone buring out their dopamine release from overconsumption and oversaturation of anything they come across. Moderation is one of the most important concepts to develop as a individual nowadays 💯
It’s cause rage is corny af and is gonna age terribly and eventually come back in like 8 10 12 years as like a ironic “omg we’re bringing back this style thing”
i agree rage and pluggnb are two genres that just got burnt the hell out, both genres and normal plugg literally are most the sounds attributed to soundcloud a rage beat was even in ads for soundcloud for a while but i have a question if any of you read this do you think the beat on relationship by future and young thug can be considered rage?
rage isn't dead, ken carson bigger than he ever has been. it's just a sound exclusive to the opium lane really, and like you said the beats have also evolved aswell. pierre's older beats are definitely the blueprint for rage beats, they were more laid back and mellower than what f1lthy did on wlr for example but they definitely predated the rage sound in an influential way.
Interesting video but I'd have to disagree, I'd definitely say Mario Judah was more influential than SoFaygo when it comes to rage music given how big he was at the time and Die Very Rough going viral before Off The Map had even released. As for Trip At Knight burning out the sound, that couldn't be further from the truth. Even in other communities outside of Trippie's fanbase, TAK is regarded as one of, if not his best albums. I remember a post from mid last year in an Uzi forum where the album was even getting its flowers. I'd personally be more inclined to lay the blame on "next generation" rappers and opium for the genre becoming oversaturated. I think rage can still hit hard though, the second song from Pink Tape (RU-vid will prolly remove my comment if I use its name) being a prime example.
wdym what happened to rage? whole opium sound is basically rage, except maybe current carti. its still the dominant sub genre of hip hop, just less synth heavy rn
Rage is still very alive and well its just evolved into different sub genres that are not really the same as the original rage so people say rage is dying. Rage is usually beats with heavy 808s and crazy synths but now its more high paced w serums and stuff like what yeat be on or its more grungy and dark like what ken carson and homixide gang be on. wlr just really evolved the rage sound into diff shi and i think carti dropping wlr started the grungy part of rage but rage is def not dead and isnt close to dying at all its just the original rage sound that we started with is starting to die out
We needa stop the Trippie hate he makes sum trash shi sometimes but is still mad consistent and got more hits than a lotta the bs ppl be listening to nowadays
i fell like rage could come back if sumbody tried to do sum new with it cuz i feel like it still go hard like miss the rage and sofaygo an carti sitll go hard so i feel like the sound is still cool just burnt out
I kinda found it harsh that you attacked Cole as a person on the lyrical lemonade album video. Like it’s totally ok if you don’t like the album, that’s totally ok. But to attack someone like that is just plain weird
I don’t think he was attacking Cole as a person, he was just saying that the album wasn’t bad, but not good either. Could’ve been better. And I agree. I love lyrical lemonade. I was pretty excited for the album, and I thought it was alright. Could’ve been better but I’ll take it for what it is. Hopefully if he does it again, it sounds better
