The twisted part of it all is I think the one reason Dark Urge became further and further worse before the mind wipe was because words of suggestion and encouragement from the one living person that truly loved them like they were his very child: Sceleritas. Dark Urge mighr have been Bhaal's favorite, but they were just a tool to them by the end of the day. Sceleritas held true devotion and care for his master.
Huh. That's such a cool detail! Almost a "secret path" considering a lot of players reload once a battle has obviously gone south. So much effort went into what could have just been a game over screen and nothing else
@@SUPERMavic Still on my first run, multiclassing as a Palalock. My favorite. If I can 1 turn Ansur then I'm going to clap Orin's buttcheeks for sure. Update: I clapped her buttcheeks.
@@SUPERMavic Oh, I'm aware of that. But didn't they patch the one way to acquire it? I'm using Duelist's Prerogative though, just because a rapier paladin sounds cool.
Party: "Why did you do this Durge?! Why betray everyone, and kill and maim, and torture the weak, and ascend to a true Bhaal's chosen?! Why Durge, why?!" Durge: "... ...Sceleritas would be sad."
Fun fact: When Sceleritas is talking to you about finding you more people to slay and murder "to start your day off with a murder or three", the voice acting director gave the VA the prompt of "deliver the line like you are talking to a child who doesn't eat their veggies". Well, needless to say that the VA understood the assignment :D
In all this context of murder, violence, betrayal and other Bhaal'ship(I hope I can implement such word play xD) he sounds evil, but I don't know, he mostly seems like a kind teacher that cares about his student, not an insane creature craving for blood to be spilled. He maybe even isn't really evil, various atrocities committed by Bhaalspawn to him are rather necessary deeds, similar to how we have to learn language, math, etc
The writers managed to make me feel sorry for that ghoulish little goblin. That is a truly titanic feat. His only regret...was not curing...his Boneitis...
@@whiteraven562Late reply, but that explains how he was able to roast Durge so well before his death. Imagine if he made a song for Durge like Raphael's Final Act to use against his enemies. That roast against Durge is insane though.
Beat honor mode the other night. First durge run too so the 1v1 crept up on my warlock. I pulled a gojo and said “nah I’d win” only to get whacked. Had to off my durge in the end
@@callmezeldaonemoartime speaking of ranger, I’m playing one right now and I’m trying to configure the best way to max damage output (no multiclassing gloomstalker). Any tips?
@@jaredcunningham3667if you're going to no multiclass ranger you should go hunter for the amazing level 11. But if you've decided on your single class already the only thing to optimise is going 17 Dex, auntie Ethels hair, lvl 4 sharpshooter, risky ring, cats grace chest, bracers of archery club of giants strength and titanstring bow is all act 1
@@pingupower9780 very very good suggestions, later in Act 2 I also recommend starting to grab the unique Hand Crossbows from Yurgir and Roah Moonglow, then in Act 3 going for the Gleamdance Dagger from the Guild and Stone Lord standoff to hold in the off hand for a free AC, then get the murder weapon under the church to hold in the main hand to be able to cast Hold Person
@@jaredcunningham3667 something I did in my Honour Run was dip one level into Wizard to use Mage Armour with Cat’s Grace for 3 more AC, I later respecced and got rid of the Wiz level in Act 3
@@Makofueled I just beat her with an Elixir of vigilance + pre-hasting + Eldritch blast'in. Didn't even have a fully optimal class, i was a 4/4/2/2 (Sorc,Rogue,Warlock,Bard) for the fun dialogue. I know if i didn't win initiative i'd lose, so why even risk initiative on honor mode.
Mage/Sorceror can easily solo her if you use Magic Missile turret build with a Haste spell/Speed potion. Markoheshkir + Calous Glow Ring + Snowburst Ring + Luminous Gloves + Coldbrim Hat + Boots of Stormy Clamour + Psychic Spark will normally absorb all 12 of the protection layers then incapacitate her (and most other booses) in one cast.
On the bright side, this is the one and only time you get to see the butler truly suffer. He says that you cannot do anything to him that he will not enjoy. And if you reject the urge, he's too dead to see you do so. In this route, he sees you fail, he feels true sorrow and remorse and regret, and then he dies painfully and permanently.
I died to her on my first durge honour mode. It was a long run aiming for bhaal domination ending. Really felt the same disappointment as Sceleritas! Didn’t realise it would be actually one on one and had just respec to a squishy crit build so she multihit me to death like crazy. My endgame camp was so saaad. I made peace with it but took me a while.
I can't believe how many master champion players there are in the comments. Please, continue to regail us all with your stories of easily besting Orin. We are shaking with anticipation and admiring for your unearthly skills.
Well, after she beat me i reloaded, then again, then again, then she killed everyone before i could get a turn in, then i went and bought a bunch of summon scrolls, then i went back and died, then i retried, then i got really lucky with a command spell and got her
@@elwiwi4638 I would've reloaded again, get lucky again, killed her again, reloaded again just to satisfy another urge that's totally not dark at all.
@@meryuchu533 Mine was similar though instead of Hold I made her (Otiluke's) Dance to death. "Behold, the dance of death!" -The Dark Urge, against Orin maybe
I actually got this on my very first playthrough. I was playing as a Sorc and Orin got Initiative t1 and downed me straight. After witnessing this though, I reloaded and had my party meddle in the fight.
Oh, so you don't even have the option to refuse Bhaal in this situation then? Makes sense I suppose, considering you died and lost the challenge. Still sad though
interesting. I imagine that the ending scene is much the same as if you accepted Bhaal's gift and then destroyed the brain. And yet I can't help but think the dialogue would be slightly different, both for when you have the opportunity to take the brain (Narrator could tell you this is a chance to reclaim your favour with Bhaal) and when the brain is dead, mayhaps you don't even get the chance to erm, give yourself Canadian healthcare (curse you TOS) before you are subsumed by the Urge entirely.
@@Thrillkilled American healthcare might put you in debt until you die, but you'll get better enough to try to work it off until you can file for bankruptcy. Canadian healthcare, they'll just write you off as a loss and tell you to kill yourself lol.
@@Thrillkilled no, I mean Canadian. American healthcare is expensive but will actually fix you. Canadian Healthcare offers you Medical Assistance In Dying
Thb the only reason I did a durge run was for the sceleritas cutscenes and dialogues. 😅 Thanks for sharing this rare dialogue. Definitely needs to be archived.
I like how this video exists as if it's not the most common outcome. I got promptly deleted by her before I even got a turn in my playthrough... Though, I remember just being resurrected and continuing the fight. I guess something was different.
now i must know what happens if you beat the game in this case especially if you control the brain, is there some special epilogue where you go nuts anyways?
yup. i do this even against Cazadore. Tbh i do it with any fight that allows it. Position-wise anyway. I attack from afar and about 99% of the time it works out wonderfully.@@Manslayer-eo1nh
i know he's like an avatar of bhaal or something close, but wish durge had sceleritas as his summon, like boo and minsc. I want to bring this cute dapper little guy with me in my adventures
It's actually really cool that there are options to play like this was your plan all along, just to break free of Bhaal and spite your butler like a mastermind.
Orin murdered my physically weak Durge Sorcerer easily in the 1v1 battle. I was holding the Blood of Lathander mace, which instantly healed me enough to resume the battle with the whole party. Magic missiles really helped strip away her stack of Invulerability protection chits.
This fight is great and all, but does anyone else think a 1v1 is a wierd trial for a champion of Bhaal in particular? It feels a little too honorable even if Orrin does have some signifigant backup. Bhaal is the scummiest, most underhanded god in dnd, I feel like there should have been an option to rig the fight in your favor. Or maybe if you're doing a redemption Durge, you could fight honorably and win anyway just really stick it to Bhaal. None of this is meant to say its bad or unsatisfying as is, its amazing they even let you lose this encounter and continue the story, im just spitballing here.
The duel is meant to prove which of the spawn is the strongest, which is why Bhaal forces Orin to become the Slayer if you reveal the degenerate lies that define her existence. It's a test of strength and Bhaal offers a lot of it to his loyal spawn.
So, effectively, the Dark Urge’s situation is now uncurable, and they will inevitably be consumed by it if freed from the Parasite. It is effectively the same route as “betraying Bhaal by destroying the Netherbrain,” but with extra angst in “now you have no choice but to be Bhaal’s puppet, but you lose the loyalty of your minion/mentor because you let yourself be revived rather than be sacrificed.”
That's the power of hubris. Based on the writings you can find, The Dark Urge was overconfident in their abilities, which allowed Orin to sneak attack them while they were distracted. I'm surprised Durge would even make her second-in-command of the Temple and bring her along on important missions like the one to Moonrise, but there's that hubris again. There's also probably some nepotism involved as well.
If you lose the duel you only have one option in the end. Claim the crown of Karsus for Bhaal. It seems the urge takes over you at the very end and you live essentially as Bhaal's puppet.
@@TheMasterUnity I think patch 5 changed that so all playthroughs can get the epilogue camp party. "Dark Urge players should now always have the option to kill the netherbrain in the game's final combat."
for anyone that wants to redeem dark urge: you have to win the battle one on one with orin because if you dont you wont have the option to be free of bhaals blood!!
I broke my game by pommel striking disguised orin, which killed orin for some reason. I still went and killed orin again and after the next long rest he yelled at me for running from the fight
yooooo this isnt what happened for me, for me everyone turned on orin and the butler declared her a traitor and usurper, butler screamed "VENGEAAAAAAAAANCE" and the temple followed
I don't believe this. The Butler scolds you for being a Loser. Then he dies, not of a broken heart, but of a broken everything. The "Stranger Things" Way.
So I just got this outcome. But after the cut scene, he’s still there just standing. If i get close to him, he moves slightly, but he’s in the same spot.
After Durge died, the rest of the party entered combat with Orin and her cultists. I left Durge dead for the remainder of the battle because I wanted to see what would happen. Once my party defeated Orin and her cultists, that was when Bhaal appeared and resurrected Durge.
The butler is made to care for the durge. I doubt he has his own feelings. He's just an extension of bhaal's will and when there is no use for you, there is no use for him. Not to mention, I'm almost certain each butler is a new version of the last. So the final one was programmed to be less than nice
They're like the family steward that got exclusively hired to make sure Durge becomes what Bhaal wants them to be. He does actually care to some degree but Durge succeeding and fulfilling Bhaal's wishes takes precedence over everything else. Durge failing in the video tells us exactly this. The Butler was ashamed he lost the duel because he believed Durge would win.
How do you even trigger this? When Orin killed me she just kept attacking my party members. If they all die - it's the end, if they kill her - they resurrect me with a scroll and the game thinks I won, no extra dialogue or anything. 🤔
You need to be playing the Dark Urge origin character and duel Orin one-on-one to trigger this. After you lose to her in one-on-one combat, the rest of your party will then join the fight. I left the Dark Urge dead for the rest of the battle rather than reviving him because I wanted to see what would happen. If you do revive the Dark Urge, things might play out differently 🤷🏻
@@callmeraeak This is exactly what I did, I revived my durge after the battle because nothing was happening. And then the butler talked to me as if I won. It's either a bug or I'm missing something else.
@@kawaty Strange. My guess is it's probably a bug then. I'm not sure if that makes you lucky or not, since this is definitely the worst fate for Durge.
Whether Orin is easy to beat or not has a lot to do with your class and who goes first. This character is a bard and Orin went first. She nearly wiped me out in a single hit and finished me off on her second turn. With a different Durge, a rogue who went first, I had no problem taking her down. I could have loaded back to try again, but I wanted to see what would happen if I just left him dead.
Bards can be one of the better options against her. Hold Monster followed by upcast Scorching Ray or Slashing Flourish (Ranged) is hilariously effective if luck has her fail the Wisdom save.
@dennyAyard_ as a sorlock, hold monster was my only way of beating her. I also had to go into the fight with sanctuary on so that she doesn't kill me in 1 turn
@@callmeraeak that depends rather on build than on your class specifically. If you have low AC and low HP pool, combined with low initiative, that is something that you need to fix.
@@callmeraeak My Durge is a Bard and I just got to act 3. I have the Slayer form though, so she can't use it. A shame its DCs are bugged so it's bad if you're a Bard.
Only played on normal so far, but the Orin Dark Urge fight was by far the easiest one for me in the entire game. I was a Barbarian and she didn’t even hit me 😂.
