Benefits of coactivation in Armwrestling/ With proper technique you will utilize every muscle group in your body. To maximize power, safety and speed you must first learn to retrain these muscle groups to work differently, together. To study the muscles, we must emphasize anogist & anataginist “sets” & how to retrain them. This stabilization mechanism is also important for unexpected loads impeded on the joint, allowing the muscles to quickly coactivate and provide stability to the joint, providing a higher level of safety. Muscle coactivation occurs when agonist and antagonist muscles (or synergist muscles) surrounding a joint contract simultaneously to provide joint stability. It is also known as muscle cocontraction, since two muscle groups are contracting at the same time. Safety💪 It literally provides a torque dampening effect to your elbow from opponent’s force. It provides joint stabilization, simply you don’t want your elbow joint to be opened by opponent’s force. Muscle coactivation allows muscle groups surrounding a joint to become more stable. This is due to both muscles (or sets of muscles) contracting at the same time, which produces compression on the joint. The joint is able to become stiffer and more stable due to this action. Isn’t this the goal of armwrestlers? For example, when the biceps and the triceps coactivate, the elbow becomes more stable. Levers are rigid & transfer of power is lowered when lever flex/bends. So we can see coactivation helps to minimize power loss. With proper technique you use tricep and bicep for maximum power at the same time, this requires retraining your muscle groups. This is not normal in other sports, with the exception of throwing sports, like Major League Baseball pitchers & Jai Alai. Armwrestling is sustained endurance at maximum output. Normal gym routines can never replace tabletime. You must not only retrain your muscles to work at the same time Armwrestling also requires you to train to do this at maximum effort for the entire duration of a match. You must use gym time for maximum capability. You must have Table time to find your maximum abilities.

I personally think natural athleticism is the biggest factor. Some people are just better athletes. Faster, quicker, better reflexes, more explosive and better hand/eye coordination. Especially at the local level.

Although tendons do not create energy, they can store energy. Think of a bowstring at rest, it has zero energy, until you pull it back, now it has stored energy, waiting for you to release the string. This is why “bouncing/micro” the bang, bang as you hits work. Each micro movement allow energy to be stored again, the same theory as a cat runs. Watch a cat as they prepare to pounce we see the cat wiggling down hunching. Tendons as taunt as they can get them & like the bowstring store energy as they load, pulling tendons tight. Now watch a cheetah, bounding after prey, each jump pulling tendons tight & storing energy like our bowstring, shooting the cat forward as its feet hit the ground. With micro movements provide kinetic energy, store energy in tendons for maximum output.

You can improve reflexes some. But the thing most people are going to have to rely on is timing.

I remember J.M. Blakely saying that as an athlete, it is always your goal to move the weight faster. Now, when the load is less, it will take less time and it will increase as the load gets heavier. Hence, a specific speed training day is not necessary, just focus on getting stronger.

I don't understand why so many armwrestlers talk about reaction time at the ready go. I always tell new pullers it's NOT about reaction time. It's about timing. That's why there is a ready before the go. If you try to react to the ref saying go, you will always be late.

In climbing this is called RFD (rate of force development). Those "speed drills" you see that you were talking about in the beginning are laughably bad and glad you pointed out how useless they are.

@@voiceofarmwrestling theories are not proven , that’s why they are called theories , a proven theory becomes a fact and it’s not a theory anymore . Also, some theories are not just unproven they are also unfalsifiable , in this case training reaction time for arm wrestling .

Do you know what works? THIS: Being fast at whatever. That's a lot better. First we have to do conscious effort to do normal things fast throughout the day. For example, you wake up in the morning and get out of the bed fast and do 10 squats/10 pull ups/10 push ups as fast as possible, put some clothes fast, after that you wash your teeth also fast, then you have breakfast relatively fast and then you go to work walking/driving kinda fast, do your work fast and come back home fast, and when you are at home do everything fast, cooking, moving objects or even studying fast and also walking up and down the stairs. After a while the conscious effort of doing things fast disappears now is subconscious and speed at a particular thing will come alone. This way your body is used to "speed", you ARE FAST because you have a FAST BODY. If you think about being faster is because you consciously know that YOU ARE SLOW. This is a REALLY funny thing. THE PROCESS OF "THINKING IN BEING FASTER" IS ALREADY MAKING YOU SLOW. This extrapolates to a lot of things, think in cars. One person buys a Supra and other buys any Ferrari. The first guy knows that if he invest money and modifies the car, it can compete against a Ferrari. But is not the same a Supra is not made for speed, the chasis bents at high speeds and also when taking curves is not even close because is not aerodynamically efficient. But the guy that bought the Ferrari, ALREADY KNEW that his car is fast at whatever thing a car can do and is efficient at doing those things fast because it's already FAST, it's a fast car. You want to be a fast person, this is the mindset of fast people. That's why speed day doesn't work. Because if you are thinking about being faster at the moment you put your elbow down at the table with a band in your hand then you are too late. And the guy in front of you, who is fast, already took the speed out of the equation and is thinking about where to put his new trophy.
