Hello!!
In todays video I watch my preview video “What’s In My Hospital Bag” with you guys to go over what I actually used. I thought I had packed a pretty minimal hospital bag but really I could have gone with a lot less. As well, there were some things that I really wish that we had brought that was left behind. I go over all of it to help you prepared for labour and delivery! I hope you enjoy this and get something out of it!

I really appreciate your motherhood videos. Most of the ones on youtube are done by women who are into pretty girly/cute stuff, which I just don't relate to at all. It's nice to see suggestions I would agree with.

I completely agree! I'm pregnant and don't know the gender and it's difficult to find baby videos where the parents haven't went batshit crazy with pink, glittery bullshit coz they know they're having a girl! The muted earthy tones are just so chill. I love it.

This was sooo good. Especially loved the insight on bringing cards. I've never thought about how bored one can get considering how much waiting can be involved. Thank you so much for this.

One piece of advice I would give for hospital bags is not to pack enough "in case there's complications and you and baby's are in the hospital for a week". If that situation occurs your partner is going to have to go home and can bring you and baby back more clothes if you need them when they visit. Packing enough for 2 days is plenty.

Our hospital won't let us leave once we've checked in for delivery. It makes everything more complicated - what to pack, how to get food, no other support partners to switch out besides whoever checks in with you. COVID has made pregnancy and labor very complicated.
@lordbusiness9193
@lordbusiness9193 3 года назад
@@ThePairlee same for me and my husband, if he leaves to go get anything then he won't be allowed back in. So I am stressing on how much to take and what will be to much vs not enough. Plus we already know I am locked in for at least 48 hours, so if we have any further complications we may run out of supplies.

Except during covid a lot of hospitals are not allowing partners to leave and come back. Once you're in, you're in for good. So definitely check with your particular hospitals and if people can not come and go, then I'd be prepared.

I packed a few baby outfits and I put one on him and when the nurse saw him she immediately said take it off and keep him only in diaper until we are ready to go home. So I wouldn't bring any outfits other than a going home one since he will be checked out throughout the stay by nurses and they don't want to deal with clothing

So glad I found your channel, fellow Canadian first time mom-to-be here and needing all the info I can get! Hard to know exactly what to bring though since I'm sure what's offered by hospitals differs from US to Canada, and even between provinces. I'm probably gonna have to pack extra since it won't be so easy to run home if we run out of something (got a 3 hour drive to the hospital when the time comes, due March 3 in Alberta and we live in the boonies!)
@AshleyEmbers
@AshleyEmbers 3 года назад
Totally! That’s why I wanted to make this video, to help moms local to bc. Despite the differences in hospitals, I feel like there’s still a lot you can get from videos about people in difference provinces or even countries! Also congrats on the pregnancy!

Someone gave us tiny scissors w/ round ends for babies nails and they are fabulous! Still use them and my son is 12 months! We played worship music the whole time it was nice, highly recommend playing some soothing music and kept the lights dim, also was relaxing! Will be bring jello and more food to eat this time around. They gave me sugar free jello cause that’s all they had and it was awful and after being in labor for 12 hours I needed a pick me up! Bring food even if they say don’t….just eat while they are gone. Also breakfast carnation drinks were a life saver!

I was happy to have some pajamas and comfortable dresses. I was in the hospital for 2 days, my daughter was in for 11 days. I felt more comfortable walking down to the NICU with clothes on rather than a gown. Otherwise they are pretty comfortable

I've never heard someone else say that about snacks! I brought protein bars I had never tried before, trail mix for protein when I don't even like trail mix that often, and other weird stuff. I just wanted some fruit for a snack or a warm meal.

Also, you just made me remember peeing myself at the hospital too hahaha! I think it was the first time I stood up after the epidural wore off and my catheter was taken out. The sweet nurse was helping me up to stand and she was like, "wow! oh my god you're doing so well," and then I promptly peed everywhere.

I was in labour for 6 hours in total and stayed in the hospital over night just because I had to have stitches. I really wish I didn't bring my sons like 'cute picture opportunity' stuff. Like I had a piece of wood with his name on it, etc. Although I did manage to take some polaroid pictures of him 🤷🏼‍♀️😅not to bad. P.s I'm also glad I brought a fair amount of nappies and a bigger size of clothes, hats etc because my bump was tiny but my baby was big 🤣 also wearing flipflops, having your own maternity pads and mesh pants are a MUST. Oh and a peri bottle

One tip is you can’t cut or file their nails right away because it takes a couple weeks for the nail to separate from the skin, so you can keep those items at home

in asia we don't have private birthing maternity areas......don't they have public hospital rooms over there? everyone I've found on YT has had a private birth...is it normal for the husband to stay with you all the time.?
@Valerie-qu5it
@Valerie-qu5it 3 года назад
Depends on the hospital but it's standard everywhere I've seen in the USA/Canada to have a private room for labor and delivery. Some hospitals move you afterwards into a shared postpartum room but it seems most hospitals do private postpartum rooms also. It's normal for the husband to be there the entire time, usually they only leave to go get food or things left at home, but with Covid they are basically stuck in the room with you until it's time to go home. I don't know where you are in Asia but I've lived in the Philippines and definitely the culture is different and the hospital infrastructure does not support private rooms because there are always so many women having babies.
@playmeagain
@playmeagain 3 года назад
That’s amazing. Unfortunately in Hong Kong it’s only during delivery. Then back to shared wards. Second most expensive place to give birth as well. We just don’t have the space I guess. Hopefully COVID allows husband to come in with me for the delivery. But pretty scared to stay alone for the rest of the time.

In Europe public hospitals can offer a private birth, but this costs extra.
@bethanyb7283
@bethanyb7283 3 года назад
In Australia you birth in private and can usually have as many support people as you want (usually husband and/or mother) and you're in a private room for labour and delivery with a bathroom to yourself. Most hospitals you will stay in the private rooms for all of your postpartum recovery (especially if you and/or baby are high risk) as well but sometimes have rooms you share with 2/3 other women but that's much more rare. If you have private health care then you will definitely be in a room by yourself the whole time at no extra charge and the room will often have a private bathroom, birthing tub, TV, etc.
