What I do for a living to afford a Lamborghini.

In this video I talk about what I do for a living and steps to my success. But the most juicy thing i do is criticize Mr. Himler's video "What I do for a living". He seems like a decent guy, but that video upset me. It seemed scripted and force fed. It also poorly sells a book idea in a youtube channel that already produces income for him.
I am not normally this critical so, to be fair, I share what I do for a living and my free tips on how to be successful. Bam.
I applaud Rob H. for trying different things, but selling a book from an advertising heavy channel is excessive. You already make decent money filming videos, why not make several videos on how to be successful? Why nickel and dime people for more?
If anyone wants, i'll gladly share more details on how I got to where I am. No bullshit or fluffy answers. Unless its a crappy question haha.
Rob, I'll gladly buy you a beer when I'm down in Florida next. Just promise me you wont make videos like that one. :-)

Thank you Rob. I watched this video 8 years ago, back when I was 17. I don't know where I would be now if I didn't find this video. Back then my parents divorced, I dropped out of the german equivalent of college, was living at my grandparents place and had to share a room with my mother who was on welfare because she was mentally unstable at that time. I had no plan in my live and faced depression numerous times. ADHD, anger issues, low self esteem, doubts and anxiety corrupted my mind on the daily. You made me realize that I don't need to be like others, follow the ordinary. I followed my passions without knowing and became everything I ever truly wanted to be. And in this way, I became unique. You changed me for good and then I made people around me change. I attract the right people and met amazing personalities that see potential in me. Today I can happily say, even though I went through a lot since I turned 18, that I am happy. I made peace with my mind and became mindful. I recently realized that wanting to 'have' something is foolish and wanting to 'become' something is filled with passion. I now 'own' and 'am' way more than other people could ever want. I already made it and there's no reason to compare myself to others anymore. So now at this very moment I'm changing my egoistic and corrupted belief/dogma that 'I need to be better' or that 'I need to prove and show others', which gave me energy all these years to: 'I follow my passions.' Again: Thank you Rob. You made me become who I am. This video was my first step.

Even in construction. My dad started out roofing, now he controls a company that builds sky scrapers, as well as an elevator business, and is growing all over the east. And that's with a GED. It's motivation. You can sit and watch tv all day or play video games... Or you could take that time to learn or try at something.

After 3 years of college, and in a dead end job, I still have no clue what I am actually good at. I'm watching this video trying to think what I am good at, and I would be able to perceive in life, but iI seem to always come empty handed. I know I am only 20, but hearing you, and many others starting their great careers at an age younger than me makes me wonder when I'll find my calling. I think i would be good at renovations on the housing market, but that requires money that i just don't have. Also, marketing it my "major" per-say, but with the limited amount of businesses around my area that are actually hiring for a position like that, I feel like I don't have that edge like someone like you to get the hell up and do something about it. This is more of a vent than a "cry" for help, but i enjoyed this video and you have earned a new subscriber. Love the car!

I really liked the point about nobody owing you anything. And also "cut the crap". Most people fail to understand that. I'm in college and I'm really lucky to have realized that the world is very simple: exchange value for value. If you want to make money, you HAVE to be able to give something in return. Nobody gives a shit about what degree you have. You have to GIVE your expertise/services/labor/... first and THEN you get your money. This rule extends beyond the realm of businesses as well.

I discovered your videos late last night. I was internet shopping for my first Corvette when I happened to spot your bright yellow beast on youtube. Before I went to bed I had watched several of your vids and I have enjoyed them all. Today, I will go back to my Corvette shopping, but first I wanted to tell you a few things. I think you're an incredible young man and I believe you are making a difference in the lives of complete strangers. I intend to make some of your videos required viewing for my grandchildren....especially this video. Just so you'll know that I am not some easily impressed kid looking for his go fast car: I am a retired 67 year old guy whose been happily married to my beautiful and fun loving bride for over 44 fantastic years. Rob, you have a great personal story, you're wired right, and your message is one that many of our youth need to understand....the sooner the better. Thank you for your efforts. Cheers from my mountain top on the Olympic Peninsula in the wet state of Washington.

You are freaking fantastic man. When I was young; around fourteen years old, I had lost a lot of people including my father and I thought the world owed me everything. The second that I realized that the world didn't owe me anything, and nobody was going to do anything for me was the day I started being successful. I don't think I've ever found videos of someone that is so much like me in mindset. Right now I'm 19 and this year I should make at least 100k, last year I made 90k. Way to go man, even listening to you helps me broaden my horizons. The willingness to wait is a humongous part of growing up and being successful. I could go out at the end of this year and spend all my savings on a Porsche 911, or I could save it, invest it, and get myself to the point where I can hopefully buy multiple cars. Thanks for the video man, subbed hard.

Sounds like my current/future life. I work in the IT business, I also started off fixing neighbors computers. Around a year ago, I had the self talk about why I don't have what I want and started working constantly to achieve my goals. I went from $200 a month in 2012 to a decent paying job in 2013. Then in 2014 I took a vacation in Japan and also Korea, all expenses paid with money I saved up. Now, I'm finishing up my degree, and writing programs/apps for businesses and saving up to expat to Seoul or Tokyo(Shinjuku). Then get a Lambo or Ferrari, but a used one though, since I would be saving 50%+ over the price new model. By the way, I'm 20. And I learned last year I needed to get my priorities straight. I would love to cruise around in an Amuse 370z, but I'd rather save up that money to buy a lamb or ferrari, so for right now I'm staying in my 4cyl honda with over 210K miles. I subscribed as well.

Dude, you're awesome. The one thing I look for in people is how genuine they are, and in less than ten minutes I can honestly say I already look up to you. I'm pursuing acting (I see it as I'm still young enough to make mistakes and all and strive for the idealistic dream) and after a year of that everything's looking like it's on the up and up; but ever since I was a child I always wanted to drive a lambo but didn't want to own one (simply because I wouldn't want to show up to an applebee's or something with some friends and have an "appreciated" internal value of my car), and in 8 minutes you've given me hope that I could be able to afford one and still be able to count and hold true the blessings I possess. This'll probably be lost, but you're a candle in this world, and holding true to everything and your place in it all is a trait we can all aspire to call a part of ourselves.

@trep6199
@trep6199 9 лет назад
Playing video games is not a very good choice for making money. I play SC2 very competatively, but I still don't waste my time trying to play it for money because I know the average progamer, playing it 12+ hours a day is making a very crap wage. They would make more money working at McDonalds. Wanting to run around winning all of the tournaments when hundreds of other other very talented pros are striving for the same thing, is a huge gamble. Get a degree in a useful field in college and you'll make more money than over 99% of progamers, who probably work harder than you.
@Bovined.
@Bovined. 9 лет назад
Trep619 Please look at estimated ratings. socialblade.com/youtube/user/vintagebeef You can type in any youtube name out there. There are plenty of people who make tons of money from uploading videos of themselves playing games. also on twitch.tv you make a ton of money. Do you know who sodapoppin is? He makes 500k a year easily, just from playing games all day.

its just not practical, sure there are lots of careers from gaming, but there are loads of millions of gamers that make $0.
@trep6199
@trep6199 9 лет назад
BovineWoW Just because a few people make it big doesn't mean it's a good choice for income. Look at the AVERAGE, don't cherry pick the people who stand out. I never said it's not possible, it's just a huge gamble because only a small percentage become successful. And youtube streamers don't get paid to play games, they get paid for their personality entertaining the audience. If you were anywhere near as good as progamers in a competitive game, you would understand that the popular streamers are generally not skilled at the game, they just have an entertaining personality, and that is what brings them their income.
@Bovined.
@Bovined. 9 лет назад
Trep619 You obviously have no clue what youre talking about. Please just do some research before trying to call someone out. Go look at the league of legends section on twitch.tv None of them are entertaining. They make 100k+/year because theyre good at the game.

This is seriously the best video on RU-vid. Just last night, I had a similar chat with my girlfriend - we're both graduating from college soon, we're both kinda clueless as to what it is that we're going to do, but we both know what it is that we like and we both know what it is that we're good at. Somehow or other, we figured out that we have to exploit those things if we're gonna make it, and we're gonna have to be innovative too - the world isn't as friendly as it maybe used to be, people very much need to carve out their own niche (as you say here) nowadays. Your video basically summed up our conversation pretty much perfectly. Given that you've been what I'd consider to be successful, I feel fairly confident that we're on the right track too, provided that we keep on trying and keep on believing at we can do it.

I've also started my own company at age 17 (now 27) and can speak with experience that its all about what you enjoy doing. Whatever your hobbies are, figure out a way to turn that into money. At the end of the day, it's all worth it. Great work Rob!

Hey, I started my own computer business last year and I can really relate to your story. I was studying and I asked myself, what do I really want? And I decided to start my own company. While writing this comment, I have a couple of computers around me that are not mine. At first I thought "I'm never going to make it, my company is going to fail!" But I kept going and now I can almost live from my company. Guys, you have to believe Rob. You have to work hard, but it's worth it. Really.

I must have watched this video year's ago when it first came out... I'm now at the point in my life where I actually need this video. I'm currently in the process of trying to grow my RU-vid channel and business restoring JDM car's mostly focused on Supra's and I'm truly shocked how much this resonates with me. I'm so thankful RU-vid decided to put this on my home page today. I also hope I come across this video and my comment here years for now and look back at how far I've come. Both in Business and with my RU-vid channel growth. Thanks so much for making this video Rob.

This is a great video. I was flipping through my feed and saw your video about the bummers of owning a Lamborghini. I realized you're a very down to earth guy. So with that I watched a couple more videos. I've worked in IT for about 20 years now. But my career took a significant turn for the better about 5 years ago. The change was me focusing on improving my skill set, and working my ass off. Doing that allowed me to move up the chain quickly, and establish myself. Along the way I spent about 3 years as a manager of IT operations. That gave me the insight that I needed. I saw so many people just trudging along, wondering why they couldnt get ahead. And the answer was obvious. Because you're trying to improve your life. I'm not rich by any means today. In fact one of my big dreams is to own a Porsche 911. Truth be told, my real dream is a Lamborghini. But the high price and limited ability to drive it has put it in my unrealistic category. On the other hand, the Porsche is still a bad ass car, and can be driven every day. At this point I totally could buy one if I wanted to. But other things have become my priorities. I know for sure though that I'll buy one when the time is right. Everything you said in the video is true. Find what you do well; exploit that, and work your ass off.

I don't know you Rob, yet you seem like a humble guy despite all your success. I was recently laid off & I find myself at a crossroads, tired of busting my ass for "the man" all my life & having nothing to show for it. I'm realizing I'm not as content as I thought I was, despite how much money I was making at any point in time. I've wasted a lot of years & although I'm still young, I'm not going to waste anymore time expecting things to happen just because they're "owed" to me. I've been kind of salty as a result & now I'm learning to use that to fuel my motivation. I have a plan set in place & although I'm a bit anxious, I'm really excited to make these changes. As you said, I feel I need to find my "niche". Thanks for the video man, your words might've just been exactly what I needed to hear to push me a bit further. 👍🏼

Not everyone can immediately know exactly what they would like to do, it mostly just falls into place. You didn't create your own niche, you happened upon it and good for you. People 'trusted' you because you just had knowledge that they didn't, again, you didn't specifically set out to do this, just happened upon it. This isn't to say that it isn't earned, but the formula for success is hard work plus luck (this is multifaceted including location, upbringing, socioeconomic status, knowing people, and the roll of the dice of life, as well as innumerable other factors). Nothing is guaranteed to work out, even if you bust your ass. If it was guaranteed, every hard working person would be 'at the top'. However, each rung up until the top can only be so saturated, and as a result, not everyone is ensured 'success'. It is a guarantee that not everyone can be super monetarily successful. In short, hard work is needed, but it does not guarantee success. The rhetoric in this video is suggests otherwise. Also, never in my experience was anyone in any level of my schooling held back for being 'too good'.
@therealcjc
@therealcjc 9 лет назад
Kevvlio I totally agree with you. Not everyone has a niche, and luck definitely plays a very important role in obtaining success. And like you said, the crucial thing to note is still that: life is unfair; hard work doesn't always equate to success. I still appreciate Rob for making this video, because I am sure it has helped many people, even if it's spiritual support/awakening, because sometimes that's all we need. In fact, it also serves as a motivation for me to continue doing what I do. Sometimes, you just feel like giving up on your dreams when reality crashes down on you too much and you end up having a pessimistic outlook of life. That's kind of what's been happening to me lately but after watching this video at least, I do feel more motivated to continue working hard for what I want.
@dogzer
@dogzer 9 лет назад
Some people think it works like this... *Hard Work = Results* Others think it works like this... *Luck = Results* or *Hard Work × Luck = Results* I'll tell you how it works: *Hard work × Luck × Wisdom = Results* ... That's the formula. Granted bad luck can still hold you back. But you can sit and complain that you're unlucky, and complain life wasn't made out to suit all your needs. Or you can actually work hard, and do it wisely. For example, you can work hard, but... have kids at young age, and then get first two lousy jobs you can find, work reeeeally hard... just so you can afford things you don't need, to impress people you don't like. That'll make you miserable. OR... you can invest yourself in something that has a future, plan your life with your brains, not your penis. Don't spend money all year long buying things you don't need, save more, invest. I didn't have my first car until I was 30. Do not blame YOUR results on luck, it's only ONE factor. Put hardwork and wisdom in your favor, use them.
@QactisX
@QactisX 3 года назад
@@dogzer Nailed it. You can work hard and be a total fool. Worked with people like that when i laid sewer pipe. You can be lucky and be a fool and then squander your money then not be in a place you or anyone else would call successful. But if you get understanding, and employ wisdom to your understanding, then you will know what to do in the situation you are in, no matter what that may be.

I love this so much. I am going to Georgia State University next year to major in film and video. Whenever I tell people that it always seems like the first thing they say is how risky that is. I have plenty of friends that love filmmaking but they're going to college to study different things in college because it's "safer". Which is probably true, and they probably have a better chance at finding a job, but...if it's not the thing that you love to do more than anything, what's the point? I'm better at filmmaking than anything else I know how to do and I love it with every fiber of my being. So, yes, it's risky, but if I want it bad enough I can get it and that's just what I plan to do. I'm basically saying if I could either make $200,000 a year sitting behind a desk every day doing the same damn thing over and over again or get pumped every time I get in my car to go to a film set to make art, but only make $50,000 a year, I'd totally take the second one.
@shadowsnlights

Take the bull by the horns and do it! Just use professionals when you start putting together your films. Don't use friends or family as cast or crew. Unless they are professional. You will have a ton of fun in film making.

Well, as long as you love the city, you're set. Yes the parking is crazy expensive, plus the spots are so close together, in the parking decks, that if you aren't on the top floors, you'll most likely get a few dings and scrapes. You'll love the school though, and the city just offers so many things to do. Best of luck to you!

Dilan Pearson thats like saying that nobody can make money from window washing or carpet cleaning or any other type of service To make a business work, you do need clients, and this is true in any field, but if you get their trust, you will also get them as repeat customers, and they may refer you to more people, or you can go find more people on your own who will need your service. So there is still hope for this guy, but a big benefactor is also location. Perspective is everything, and with any business, it is a numbers game and it is only a matter of time before you become "successful" because there are so many people who will need your "goods" or service. Hit a few colleges or rich or prosperous communities/neighborhoods, network with some people and begin to build a business! Best advice, and more highly needed and easier to make money from especially since we are the most socially connected generation, you're bound to reach success and a good amount of money.

EVERYONE is good at something. If you're a poor kid in the slums in India you're really good at living off of very little money. If you're a fat couch potato in America that just surfs the net all day I bet you're good at doing that. Everyone is good at something. The key is finding something you're good at, and then working hard to figure out how to make a career out of it. The poor kid in India could write a book about his life, and probably be a best seller. There's always something if you are focused enough.

Thanks brother. I like your analogy to cheating. What's easy for me? What advantages do I have? Also, I don't have a lambo because of ME... Good perspective. Now I kinda want one. haha I have a plan. Thank you for your encouragement and congratulations on your success.

Subbed just from this vid. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I'm just getting an ecommerce business off the ground and need all the encouragement I can get. Timing couldn't have been better.

I don't often comment on videos, but your attitude towards the publice (a.k.a. answering to comments on almost 4 year old videos) and the message in this video made me do so. This hit a lot closer to home than I expected. I was expecting a video about you blobbing about your job and perfect life, but, guess what? You're a lot closer to me than I expected. I work in the IT business since I was ~15 years old. I'm 22 now. I know hard work can pay off (in Brazil, the Lancer is considered a high-end car in price, and I managed to buy one last month, even though it was used, after wanting it since it got teased as the Concept X), but I feel I'm in that "instantenous pleasure" age you just told: I sometimes just slack off playing videogames, lying to myself that that's the best course of action that I should take. I really hope I absorb this video the right way and can be a really hard working, highly rewarded person in 10 years from now, as you just became. I know no economical crisis, or person, or anything can be blamed about my failure on that, but myself. Thanks a lot for this, mate.
