THE DAILY DOZEN:
Beans or Tofu (1.5 cups cooked)
Berries (1/2 cup)
Other Fruits (3 medium fruits or three cups)
Cruciferous Veggies (1/2 cup)
Greens (2 cups)
Other Veggies (1 cup non-leafy veggies)
Ground Flaxseeds (1 tablespoon)
Nuts & Seeds (1/4 cup)
Whole Grains (3 servings)
Spices & Herbs (Turmeric)
Beverages (5 12oz glasses)
Exercise (40 minutes)

Hi Michelle, thanks for this super positive Daily Dozen video - much appreciated! Please do investigate / make a video on Vitamin D for Vegans. Once you cut out animal sources - it's supplements or sunshine and if you don't pay attention it's easy to become Vit D insufficient. For the summer months - that is your invitation to have a half hour daily lunch in the Sun with plenty of exposed skin... You are then building Vit D stores for the Winter...

@@Worldofvegan I believe your video showed a brand of Vitamin B12 that is *methylcobalamin based, which is why I had to say something. Dr Greger recommends *cyanocobalamin B12. I actually had to switch mine up myself 😬

Can we still try to consume the daily dozen, foods highest in: Arsenic, Gliadin, Furocoumarins, Cesium, Oxalates, Goitrogens, Serpins, Solanines, Cyanide, Thallium, Bergapten and Pyrrolizidine Alkaloids. Should we keep eating foods high in these 12 or try to find foods that are low in all 12?

I used unsweetened almond milk but you can absolutely use water (especially with the cashews in there, it basically creates it's own nut milk base!

Instead of maple syrup: blend together glass of water, hand full of almonds and one or two hand fulls of dates.

Not knocking the daily dozen. I use it. But 4 dates are 266 calories and very high in sugar. For those that don't want that much sugar..

Great video! For the Pad Thai, how much tofu did you add? Did you cook it? Or just add the the dish at the end? Thanks!

A full block of tofu, cut into cubed! Yep, I saute it in a bit of oil and soy sauce with the veggies before adding the pad thai noodles and sauce :) You could also bake it and add it after, either way! :)

@@cheezheadz3928 The Daily Dozen is about 12 foods you should get into your diet, nothing about what NOT to eat :) That's sort of the beauty of it, it helps you "crowd out" the bad with the good!

Would the servings be different for athletes? People who do intense or moderate-intense exercises? I'm curious to know

I believe they would. Dr. Greger's Daily Dozen is the minimum amount for each of the categories to eat in a healthy, nutrient rich way. If you need extra calories, you could add more of every single category - especially fruits, vegetables and grains. This blog post might help, too! www.worldofvegan.com/alex-ciccone

Black pepper - IT HAS TO BE FRESHLY GROUND, DUE TO A SUBSTANCE IN THE BLACK PEPPER THAT GOES AWAY QUICKLY WHEN GROUND, THUS IS NOT FOUND IN GROUND BLACK PEPPER!

Lots, actually! For grocery stores, the Sacramento Natural Foods Coop. And for restaurants, I'm actually working on a video featuring the great vegan spots! There are many! Check HappyCow.net and you'll find them all. One of my favorite spots isn't vegan, it's a ramen place called Shoki Ramen House. The Creamy Yasai gorilla style = SO good. I also love El Papagayo (not all vegan they have a whole vegan menu there with vegan meat and cheese and beyond).

It's so sad that you're allergic to flaxseed. Ugh! But, if you're looking for an Omega 3 food that is similar to flaxseed, you can try chia seeds, hemp seeds, and even walnuts. Hope one of these helps!

Hi Jayne, it's chickpea tuna, not tuna made from fish :) I can see how this was a little confusing. This chickpea "tuna" salad has the same texture and a similar flavor to the animal based version. It's super good! Check out our recipe here: www.worldofvegan.com/chickpea-tuna
