Nice video as always Sage! Love your "Full Day of Eating" videos. Also Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin, not fat-soluble. Not that it really matters. Just thought I should point that out :)

Evan Bush Why does he need the B12 supplement? Just curious, as his diet seems healthy enough as is.
@evanbush8821
@evanbush8821 6 лет назад
Abycab Yep, you're absolutely correct. B12 is produced by bacteria in the soil. However, due to the sanitation of our produce and the fact that we are not drinking untreated water like our ancestors used to do (which gave us our daily B12 requirement simply by drinking just 1 liter alone), B12 cannot be gotten through diet alone. Therefore, a B12 supplement needs to be taken.
@matthewwood9319
@matthewwood9319 6 лет назад
Abycab is right. Tbh unless yoire regularly drinking well water or eating unwashed produce fresh from the ground you should be taking a B12 supplement
@FTStratLP
@FTStratLP 6 лет назад
That depends where you live. Where I live (Austria), you'll get enough B12 through your regular diet, provided are not vegan or vegetarian. Also our water out of the tap is not treated.
@evanbush8821
@evanbush8821 6 лет назад
FTStratLP That makes sense. Also, by eating meat, you are technically supplementing B12 as well, just not directly. The animals are supplemented with B12 and the B12 is then received through consumption.

Hey, Sage would love to see you do a video on the Fat Adapted Athlete that seems to be making headway with a lot of runners. Want to hear your thoughts on Keto and if you have had any thoughts about this lifestyle?

Ya, he talks about vegan, but I haven't heard his take on low carb high fat. He has had many issues with GI distress. I would think he would look at options to try to fix the problem? If you happen to find it I would love to watch it. Thanks

Kevin King I would think so too! I'm curious to see how this marathon goes. I don't know if keto/OFM would help but with this much trouble stomach I think it's time. And for all we know he has looked into it..have to remember he's a life time vegan. I do remember that when he met Sandy he went stricter (think previously he ate eggs and fish). Regardless it's easy for us to play arm chair nutritionist from home. Wish him nothing but the best but hope he pays attention to his body if Houston doesn't pan out.

This question is meant to be non-combative, I'm just 100% curious on why you're strictly plant-based: What's your objection to consuming animal products? Is it ethical or nutritional? Or both? Do you eat eggs? Thanks for any insight you can provide. Personally, I'm mostly plant-based but do consume wild game meat and eggs only from my co-worker's chickens who are very well cared for, have ample grazing land and lay quite a few (no rooster present so, they'll never fertilize). I run approx 30-60 miles per week and have never felt better so, I'm curious to know if there's another level I can hit nutritionally.

Great video as always Sage! Don't you have concerns eating lettuce before a workout? Some kind of lettuce can make you dozy because of containing soothing velerian. Lettuce is also quite hard to digest and can cause flatulence. One more question, why do the bananas have to be frozen?

I have read that capsacin (chemical that makes hot peppers hot) is a good vasodilator, I have noticed that eating food with very hot sauce gives me endorphin rush and vasodilation (when I sit down my heart palpitates for a second due to vessel dilation adjustment) I bet it has an effect on running too, might be good to try before a heavy track workout?

Braxton Doucette I can't drink beet juice (the taste!), but I can just about tolerate one of those concentrated beet shots washed down with a glass of water. I tend to take one a few hours before a race for the nitrate boost. Science suggests it's a 2%-3% gain for non-elite athletes.
