Ehh, maybe 1st time was good. But after a 2nd or 3rd time, it sort of felt like a bit of missed potential. I thought the whole mob plotline wasn’t executed very well, and understanding Javi’s motives for wanting Cage in his movie felt a bit over the place. HOWEVER, maybe one small change could’ve fixed this. So here it goes: The movie plays out as a fantasy, where Nicolas Cage wished he was never an actor. I actually liked how like the first act showed that he put it acting before his family leading to them be estranged and not wanting anything to do with Cage, since he failed to be there for them. Cage even is coming to terms that he’s just a has-been, and nobody is going to hire him anymore and that it’s time to hang up the cape. But seeing that he’s left with nothing else, and will lose everything, Cage takes it hard to face the music. That same night, Cage receives in the mail one of the old film props from one of his films, that he gave to his daughter when she was little (Let’s just say it was some thing meant to be magical from one of Cage’s). After reading the letter saying she’s done with him, Cage upsettingly wishes that he never was an actor. The next day, Cage wakes up, but only to see that his wish came true. He’s living in the middle-class suburbs with his wife and daughter, is a good father, and working as a car tire salesman (A nice little nod to The Family Man). However, this means that nobody (except the Coppola family) knows who he is, and all the movies that were made never happened/existed. Here we can get even some ideas as to who would have played Cage’s characters in said movies if not him. Hollywood now has become a bit lame, since every movie feels the same and not interesting (let’s even throw a line about how everything is being rebooted and remaked, whilst poking fun at the fact that this movie itself is one.). One day, Cage is fixing a car tire for a man named Javi, a struggling screen writer who is trying to find the right actor to be in his movie, kinda similar to what Javi’s movie plot is like in the story. After a bit of a fight to which Cage causes to let out some rage, Javi actually becomes impressed, asking Cage how does he make the faces he does. Seeing that he may have potential, Javi begs Cage to star a the lead character in his movie, to which Cage is reluctant at first (I don’t know about whether or not we should have Cage tell his wife.), but seeing that this can be both a financial success, something he can play in, and be a change to prove to Hollywood otherwise, takes the offer. And from there, the rest of the story happens. The movie sort of an away plays out like Last Action Hero (1993) and The Family Man. Except this time, you could use Nicolas Cage not existing to play into some great reason to why people really need him.

I'm realizing how few movies and TV shows I watch nowadays due to school, but here's what I watched/have been watching in May. • Dr. Strange 2 - 7.5/10. Very fun movie to watch, and I love the Sam Raimi flavor to it, but there are just a few story aspects that really bug me. • Sonic 2 - 6/10. Enjoyable for what it is, but not mind-blowing to me or anything. Harmless fun. • King of the Hill - 4.5-8.5/10. About halfway through season 4 on this. There are a lot of great episodes, but also there are also a lot of episodes that kind of irk me (mostly because of Peggy). • Chip 'n Dale - ?/10. I'll be frank, I was super high when I watched this so I barely followed what was going on. I had the absolute time of my life, but also I probably can't give it a fair rating.

I started the month with Turning Red, which I really liked. I really don't understand most of the debates around this movie. Next I watched Sonic 2. I really didn't like the first, but I absolutely loved the second. Not sure how I enjoyed it this much more. It still has a lot of the same issues, but I guess I don't care about that when it's in an actual Sonic movie instead of a generic guy-and-cgi-character movie. Next I watched Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Really not sure how I feel about this one. It was absoultely not what I expected. The title really oversells it, with the multiverse not being much more than the trippy magic scene from the first movie. Also, so many people hyped up a lot of fanservice and cameos that did not even remotely happen. I really liked the villain and the horror elements that come from them. I feel like I need to watch it again to fully form an opinion. Next I watched Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, which I really did not like. The humor just wasn't for me, the fake 2D animation was really ugly, and I think it's disgusting how Peter Pan's backstory heavily parallels his original voice actor's life, except Peter Pan turns into a villain. I genuinely don't know how that was allowed, and there's no way that everyone involved didn't know. Lastly, I decided to watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit, since a lot of people were comparing it with Chip and Dale and I had somehow never seen it. I thought it was way better than Chip and Dale, and it's really dumb that Roger Rabbit looks better considering how old it is

I weirdly love WFRR, the joke about baby hermen having a 50 yea old lust and a 3 year old dinky gets me every time. I definitely agree with you on Chip and Dale, to me if felt cheap and disrespectful

Your no way home review is funny cause I wasn’t blown away with it the 1st time. 2nd time watching the movie, it just doesn’t hold up as the cracks start showing. Hot take, but I actually thought MoM was way better. Yeah the Illuminati felt shoved into the movie, but the 1st and 3rd acts are very entertaining, which is all I really want from a comic book movie. All I want from these movies is for them to be as creative as the comics themselves

Was the Shrek screening at the Music Box? I went to a midnight screening of The Room at the Music box in early 2020 before the world shut down and dude it was hands down the best theater experience I've ever had. It's chaotic fun.

I really don't think Men leaned into it's obvious messaging as much as you think - and would even argue that it was actually pretty damn tongue in cheek, despite it's graphic material. I'm pretty confident Garland knew exactly what he was doing with using heavyhanded broad metaphors and than twisting them so you're not sure how you feel. I certainly didn't leave the theater thinking "men bad", but rather that it was a very creative and effective way to put to film what is a sadly common story. It almost felt like a intentional lambasting of what your typical chudbrained antifeminist would assume this movie was.

@sirene1976
@sirene1976 2 года назад
@@iriiiriii i really try my best to watch as much movies as i can. i would say since i’m still a student i have a lot of free time and that’s usually when i always watch movies. however on days (or even weeks!) where i can’t find any time to watch anything or i’m just too overwhelmed with what i have going on with school or my personal life, i end up not watching anything and i’ll just let myself find the motivation back a couple of days later. fortunately this month has been great to me so i’ve managed to watch more than i expected! but if you really want to start watching more movies every month i would recommend having a schedule where you can be like ‘okay i’ll watch a movie everyday at 9.00pm and then i can fall asleep around 11 or 12 (based on how long the movie is)’. ofc since life gets messy sometimes and you won’t have time some days to watch something or you’re just not really motivated, just skip that day, it’s ok. motivation and being organized is really the key! (and ofc, ACTUALLY liking the movies you see).

To be honest, while it is very possible I'm reading into the small details way too much, I think Men had a lot more complex themes and ideas than people have been giving it credit for. It is the kind of thing I want to make a video about but I'll probably never get around to it lol. Anyways, I gotta step up my movie watching numbers. Was trying real hard to watch movies more often at the beginning of this year but I've been slipping hard lol. All I watched in May was The Northman, Us (rewatch), The Incredible Hulk (rewatch) and Men

I agree. It’s a movie designed for multiple watches, and i didn’t find the points he made representative of my experience with the movie whatsoever. He acts like the Christian imagery is thrown in for no reason, but it literally presents the entire basis for the film by showing how the story of Adam and Eve creates a societal normalcy in blaming women for the downfall of man. I’m a huge sucker for allegorical films, and Men is my favorite of the year.
