I loved the movie, but even I have to admit that it would have made more sense if Chelsea was actually Nerissa's daughter, it would have made her motives in getting revenge on the krakens more natural rather than just for evil
I have a theory that maybe Chelsea is really Nerissa's daughter. 1)Chelsea despite affirming in the movie that she is Nerisa and that she is over 100 years old to put an age. She never showed the maturity of a more adult woman, since at the end of the movie it didn't make sense for her to continue pretending about being someone else. In a real way, it was adapted to modern technologies and social networks. 2) Chelsea I never tried to kill Ruby, I just pushed her out of the way and she went straight to the mother and grandmother. 3) Chelsea It is obvious that she manipulated Ruby but really at no time did she do it in a harmful way, because she showed her the wonders of the ocean and thanks to her Ruby is braver and a warrior now. 4)I have a theory that Chelsea impersonated her mother to get revenge on the grandmother and the mother for defeating the mother. 5)For me it was a very elaborate plan from Chelsea. Despite the manipulations, it is seen genuinely at times, when she expresses pity or sadness. And if Ruby wasn't looking at her at those moments, which meant she wasn't pretending in front of her. 6) I believe that after the war of Krakens and Sirens Nerissa went into hiding and later had a daughter as heiress. 7) Even though she stayed the same person in the movie, the Storyboards weren't like that, Nerissa and Chelsea were actually different characters. I think they omitted many scenes and they had no choice but to show what we saw. 8)It is known that they do not age but really this is a true fact of mythology but they do say that the mermaid women looked like 20-30 and Chelsea only looks 15-16. I don't think at all that all mermaids look like this when they are young xd it would be very very strange. It might just not be the same as Hotel Transylvania with Mavis, She was 118 years old and from her appearance she looked 18 years old, exactly the same thing happens to me. 9)Why would I go to a high school? if she supposedly knew the Gillman family was hiding out in Oceanside, why would "Nerissa" go to school? Why didn't she go directly to Ruby's house? . When she first met Ruby, Chelsea obviously already knew she wasn't human, but instead of putting on some disgusted expression at being enemies, It never got like that. I mean, if I were Nerissa and I saw the granddaughter of my greatest enemy, well, she would bother me or I don't know something. Until Chelsea saw an opportunity, she did not manipulate it in a way to get the trident. Besides, you could tell that it was the first time he had visited Oceanside.Although I would surely study a little human behavior and what social networks are today. (It's my theory, please respect it)
I really wish they'd given her more character development and had her be a different person than nerissa. She could've realized the error of her ways and helped Ruby, yk? Also, Ruby's racist grandmother could also realize that "not all mermaids are mean." This just teaches people that "mean girls are always mean," which rally isn't true. Lots of potential, wasted.
If they that was the case, Chelsea could’ve been an outcast because of her mother’s reputation. Thus, the friendship between her and Ruby would be more meaningful. Similar to how Chris from Stand By Me was seen as a lowlife hood because of his brother’s reputation but still had Gordie as a friend.
Excellent story. If they make a sequel ( and I hope this ), they must take this idea 💡. Nerissa : Excellent, my daughter. You have the trident. Now...kill Ruby ! Chelsea : W...what ?! You're...you're not serious ?! Nerissa : I'm serious ! Kill her...now ! Chelsea : But...Ruby is my friend ! Nerissa : Are you kidding me ?! This kraken-girl is NOT your friend ! She's the enemy of our people ! YOUR enemy ! I give you an order ! Kill this little monster ! Chelsea : Never ! Ruby is my friend, and the krakens are YOURS enemies ! Not mine. I refuse to obey, you ugly madness witch ! Nerissa : Hum...I see. Well...I will kill you first, and after, it will be the turn of the pretty princess kraken. Chelsea : M...M...Mother ?!
excellent idea, but i think it’s a little bit too late for that imo. the only way i think this could work is if they made a tv series out of it and made it non-canon to the movie. but even then that would probably confuse the younger audience
If Chelsea was Nerrisa's daughter, she genuinely appreciated the time they talked to each other, spending time with each other (no,this is not a ship). She would try to stop her mother from battle if she almost loses. Her mother then die,and Ruby will try to comfort Chelsea, lending her a home to stay. That would be very nice. So the villain here was Nerissa, not Chelsea. I wont call this a theory, but rather,a headcanon. Because the actual story has already been told
Yes that's not really a headcanonn that's how it would of been originally but either budget or something lead them to dealte every mermaids charater but queen nerissa herself and make chesie her to along with removing the literally mermaids on the poster making krackens vs a mermaid
My theory is that Narissa was stuck in Chelsea's body, taking control over Chelsea's body waiting for Ruby to take the trident for her soul of Narissa to be freed.
tbh i feel like it would’ve been *way* more interesting to see a movie about chelsea’s rather than ruby’s family. like, mermaids are always presented as ethereal beauties meant to be worshipped and loved by all, kind souls, and just all around perfect (at least on the surface). ruby is so textbook i couldn’t pay attention most of the time, like “oh she’s the misunderstood monster that’s actually really nice if you get to know her” okay sit down. we have monster high, they’ve been doing it for years and even before that there was classic literature like the original frankenstein. the creature didn’t ask to be created, all he wanted was a companion just as disfigured as him to live out the rest of his days in peace and victor treated him like a monster because he looked exactly how you’d expect a being made of rotting corpse parts to look: horrifying, the way that victor made him. seeing chelsea come to terms with her family needing to appear perfect and be loved by everyone only to rise up and defy her lineage of secretly being warmongers is still textbook, but it would’ve been way more interesting to have her befriend the “villain” and be a genuinely good person instead of the “twist” everyone saw coming
Imagine the posibilites 😮😮, the multiverse is real, diferent variations of chelsea, many stories, we need a sequel or another movie where chelsea is the daugther of Nerissa and see what happens
A theory from me: what if nerissa was actually deafeted by the krakens, and chealsea was just human, and nerissa could've taken over her body, causing chealsea to become a mermaid? kind of like demon possession. But chealsea never wanted to hurt anyone, but nerissa wanted to get revenge on humanity, and chealsea was the only way to free her from the demon realm.
Answer(ig):chealsea will be really diffrent and the one who join the fight is nerissa and chealsea will stop her from fight but nerissa still be a bad mom and chealsea will bff forever with ruby (agatha and nerrisa dont like eachother) VOILA~ peace Sorry im bad at explaining😅
I knew Chelsea would be the villain of the film but I didn’t know she was Nerissa this whole time It actually shocked me!!! Me and my mom went to see this movie after The Little Mermaid And Before we saw Elemental
If they were two different characters. How cool would it be shown in the credits. Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken 2 probably at 2025 depending on the box office
Then Ruby would've trusted Chelsea. But really Chelsea is helping her mother. And in the middle Ruby finds out, then confronts Chelsea when Chelsea didn't want to help her mother. And at the end it's a happy ending.
I thought it was gonna be Chelsea having ACTUAL different people, For example: Chelsea was actually a good person, She wanted to become actual friends with Ruby, And when Chelsea was helping Ruby to get the Trident, Nerissa was posessing Chelsea (I don't know how), Maybe by using a potion Chelsea thought was just normal? Don't know, And when she got the Trident, Nerissa finally revealed herself, Making Chelsea turn into Nerissa (Sorry if you can't understand this, I'm bad at making thoughts😥)
I feel like it would have made a more interesting story if Chelsea was her daughter and was actually Ruby’s friend, but her mother found out they found the trident and attacked Ruby’s mom and grandma with it and Chelsea had to go against her mother to save Ruby
I mean, if she was the daughter + wasn't the twist villain, it would be so much more interesting because she would've been raised to believe mermaids are good and she would genuinely try to use the trident ti stop the war, but her mother would take it and she'd have to face that her mom isn't as nice as she originally thought (+ maybe there would be a misunderstanding between her and Ruby where Ruby would think she betrayed her and in the end it would get explained) Honestly, it would be so cool
I kinda like the idea of it being a platonic Romeo and Juliet (without the dying part) I haven’t watched the movie but I’ve heard peoples ideas for an alternate story Like Chelsea and Ruby do become friends and they work through the differences of their people, but then family gets in the way. Chelsea doesn’t want to hurt Ruby but wants to help her people while Ruby’s grandmother only sees the evil in mermaids. (If they were different people) While Chelsea’s mother only sees the evil in krakens. Both fighting a war over years ago now forcing it on their families because tradition. In the end both of them settle their differences by rejecting both, the whole “your our family but this isn’t our war”. While Ruby’s mother helps her mother find peace with the mermaids and move past her for lack of a better term racism, Nerissa will never find peace, basically “I will never find peace if they are still around!” And backstabbing her daughter and her people for the sake of her own revenge. The end of the movie might leave it open that the krakens and mermaids are still trying to find peace and nothing will fix the past, some will want to follow Nerissa and hate krakens and others will hate mermaids like the queen used to, but the next generations can heal and move forward. Would this be a heavy topic and complicated? Yes. Would it be interesting? Yes. The end is Chelsea and Ruby just being friends or maybe even more. Just being like “we have a lot to work through but this is our story now and we’ll just enjoy the time we have together.”
idk chelsea said that mermaids don't age which is why she might be the original nerissa but It'll be really cool if chelsea was actually nerissa's daughter
I say it more of stop aging then don’t I feel like if they keep the idea of Chelsea being the daughter then that would have made this meh movie to something not forgettable you know.
Honestly I'd have been interested in watching if Nerissa and Chelsea were two separate people and Chelsea betrayed Ruby to get the trident only to then betray her mom because she actually became friends with Ruby and didn't want her to get hurt.
This was actually originally gonna be the plan. Dreamworks was originally gonna make chelsea and nerissa 2 separate people, and chelsea was actually gonna have a mom. But they thought it would be really cool if they gave us the plot twist that chelsea doesn't have a mom, and she pretended to be a teen named chelsea the entire time, only to be revealed as queen nerissa. This is the thing that really shocked me when I watched the movie in theaters. And it was really cool. But part of me still wishes they went with their original idea. Just imagine if ruby had to fight chelsea's mom (because of the war between the krakens and the mermaids), and then chelsea tries to stop her because she actually developed a real friendship with ruby. But then nerissa, only caring about herself and wanting to kill all the krakens with the trident, pushes poor chelsea, telling her "you are the most pathetic excuse for a daughter! I can't believe you actually became friends with a kraken! Get out of my way, daughter! I'll kill this kraken myself!" She would push her daughter to the ground, making her cry, and making her realize that her mother is a cruel, heartless monster who only cares about herself. After that, I imagine chelsea deciding to help ruby defeat her own mother, sealing the trust and bond between her and ruby, and finally ending the war. And maybe ruby's family can adopt chelsea after they defeat nerissa? That would've been a nice ending.
Theory: what if chelsea is actually nerissas daughter and probably nerissa died and her soul went into chelseas body. But on land chelsea is a normal mermaid but on water nerissa possesses chelsea to convince ruby to get the trident so nerissa can get revenge for what rubys mom did to her, so when chelsea gets a hold of the trident nerissa makes chelsea transform into her body to make it more convincing chelsea wasn't real and nerissa was just in disguise but in reality nerissa is just possesing chelseas body.
Maybe Chelsea is a great person i mean like she understands Ruby that doesn't mean Chelsea is evil maybe the part where chelsea gets the thing that she's holding might be her mom maybe the mom can shape shift Well that's my theory 😶
@@lavaninja1042 Yeah, it’s pretty interesting that the fanfic expanded the lore of how the Mermaids and Krakens become enemies and that neither of them are good.
By that logic the only way that's possible is if Marissa took Chelsea's body and trapped Chelsea's soul somwhere. In the movie Chelsea grabs the trident and says "I'm narissa" as she's turning into narissa
I loved the movie so much, and if Chelsea really was Nerissa's daughter Ruby could have helped her not be like other mermaids and actually have a heart.
For me it was a bit of a twist that they where the same person cause they left some hints to them being mother and daughter, such as Chelsea saying in the beginning when making her heroic speech “as my mother said”
