"yo........we just saw the dude fucking explode, and he is still alive and we dont really know how his powers work.....lets take him to our space station." fucking brilliant.
Uncle Sam is actually a pretty tragic character. He not only witnessed his country being occupied by the Axis, but his team (specially poor Phantom Girl 😢) was slaughtered by Alexander Luthor's villain team during the "Infinite Crisis". And despite all of this, he never gave up and fought till the end. I am not even american, but damn, that son of a b*tch made me proud to feel American, anyway.
Neither am I, but... That's what america is about, or what it used to be anyways. Yeah they were loudmouths and a bit self-righteous, but the old americans dreamed of a world where every man (and eventually every woman) was free to forge their own destiny and had no king or fuhrer or premier to oppress them
Uncle Sam in DC is the literal embodied concept of the American Dream -- the ideal and idealized version of America. He (or at least the proto-version of him) was created in a mystical ritual by the Freemasons among the Founders. He requires a human willing to act as a conduit for him (as do beings like the Spectre and Doctor Fate) but given that, he is as strong as the belief of Americans in a better America. He also split into Billy Yank and Johnny Reb and fought himself during the Civil War, so he's subject to derangement and damage if the country isn't united, and he can be weakened by things like widespread cynicism. He also once teleported to Smallville and punched Superman into the next state because Luthor being elected President caused him to start to take on Luthor's belief that Superman was a dangerous alien and a corrupting influence on humanity. Superman was able to talk him down, though, but as he is a magical being, Superman was getting his ass handed to him prior to getting through to Sam's basic decency and sense of justice, since Superman is vulnerable to magic.
@@Mohamedbloo Uncle Sam doesn't embody America as it is nearly so much as he embodies the dream of America -- America as it wants to believe that it is. He's an aspirational ideal, not an accurate reflection. If people generally rejected the hope or dream of a better America, and accepted the idea of an America that's basically failed and fallen short of what it could have been, Uncle Sam would wither and die. Lack of hope for a better America is basically his kryptonite.
Fun Fact: There is actually a Marvel villain called U-Man who is an Atlantean that, because of his hatred against Namor, allied with the Nazis to become more powerful and kill Namor. The irony is that in this DC story, Aquaman is called U-Man, and if you remember, Aquaman is a rip-off of Namor.
I feel this is a really interesting case study about the essence of Superman. If he grew up in any other situation, would Superman still be Superman? What I found interesting was that while he grew up to embody Nazi ideology, we see throughout the story a sort of inner real Superman trying to get out. It’s like that despite believing in what he was raised to believe, a part of him new deep down that this was wrong and he couldn’t bring himself to defend anymore.
This story really made me feel bad for the Freedom Fighters (the heroic group of Earth-X made up of Uncle Sam, Phantom Girl, Plastic Man, etc). Imagine having to survive against a world conquered by the Third Reich and an indestructible living weapon like Overman.
Ergh, I'm more conflicted with that. Like they definetly have good cause to fight but how literal terrorist attack that destroyed entire city with its own population will make others stand with them? In how they act FF are no better than Nazis, killing millions "for an idea of better world"
@@LineOfThy No, actually. Plastic man in this universe got captured and turned into a mass produced weapons program called.....PlaSStic men. Look it up.
Probably the only reason being that German is a silly and stupid language, no matter the audience. Generally the name would be stupid as fuck to any American, Mexican, Canadian, and funny enough still stupid as fuck sounding to any neighbor countries or “sister-languages” it’s a ridiculous language.
Many people think nurture is more influential than nature. For the most part that is true but the people who see that as an absolute seriously underestimate the influence of one’s natural instincts.
Love the fact that Clark, despite being a literal n*Zi, still felt enormous guilt for what he did. THAT'S how Superman would act, not that edgelord of Injustice
It's funny. One man raised by a cruel dictator and a fucked up ideology was conflicted by his actions without intervention, but a strong inner guilt. And the other one was raised by a loving, humble couple, understood his mission as a simbol of hope and justice, but one single tragedy changed his whole belief system so he declared himself the absolute dictator of the world.
It’s super interesting, cause the one of the concepts the creators had going into making the original Superman, is that Superman was an anti-ubermench. The creators were originally Jewish and had both lived through world war 2. So essentially this story is what if Superman became the thing his whole character was created to oppose
@@changvasejarik62 That's a really fucked up way of thinking my guy. Just as a reminder, the country of Germany still exists, like we didn't go home from home to kill everyone. Probably shouldn't be bringing modern wars into this but that's the same justification Russia is using to justify its warcrimes in Ukraine.
Yeah . I understand that war is war , but why don't they go after military targets ? Not only it's immoral , but also wouldn't that make the population support the Nazi regime even more ? The goverment of the Reich would have an extremely easy time to rally it's population against the freedom fighters after they blew a hole city
I’m ngl I thought this story would be packed with more internal battles. Cuz I feel like snapping Superman out of Nazi teachings wouldn’t be an easy task, he would have to see his destruction from the eyes of a survivor or something planning to betray the team. I don’t think Overman would go “maybe what I’m doing is bad”, out of the blue. Overall, writing was a lot more lacking than I thought. I would like this to be more fleshed out as a mini series or such.
For real, this feels like something written for the holocaust commemoration, I know that hitler is evil but make the characters act like characters ffs
@@rachel1215 most def. For Overman to suddenly go “maybe what I’m doing is wrong?” Is just dumb because they didn’t want to write a full comic abt it. Like you can’t make regular Superman switch to evilness so easy, what makes Overman any different? Overall, the comic leaves much to be desired
I love how Grant Morrison designed this whole story to mirror Richard Wagner's epic opera 'The Ring of the Nibelung', which was about the follies and fall of the norse gods. Also: Multiversity is a damn masterpiece - would love to see you cover Pax Americana
i'm not even that into comics but not making him a yellow lantern seems like a huge missed opportunity . editing because i forgot to say , love your videos !
I can kinda under stand nazi Green lantern but over girl? Super girl came to earth as a teen so would she just go along with the nazi stuff or would it have been more like injustice if we got to see her live longer?
I also think Wonder Woman would have left the Amazons, took one look at this world and said “Mom was right about the world of men.” And then turned around to go home. Also why would the Nazis want Martian man hunter for anything other than a lab rat to experiment on? They’re not exactly known for being accepting of people different to them.
Nah… I’m not letting the fact that Batman became a Nazi because his parents were murdered, slide. That implied that the person who murdered his parents was a- I’m out.
That’s not Bruce Wayne, the Nazi Batman is the grandson of fictional WW1 hero Hans(Enemy Ace) Von Hammer. It’s possible Nazi Batman’s parents are alive and he became Batman in a foolish attempt at continuing his grandfather’s legacy.
First off I want to say happy New Year's to you happy late New Year's and happy 2024 PS I want to say I love all your amazing videos content and so much more I'm happy to be able to always be a part of your channel and love you and watch your amazing videos of Marvel comics DC Comics and Anime stuff probably is so much more you are amazing😊❤❤❤🎉🎉
This one just felt underwhelming. Definately pales in comparion to Red Son, which really got you in his head and you could see how he comes undone. This felt rushed and hollow in a way.
0:07 There's a world where a Batman who was Lex Luthor & a half-Martian-half-Kryptonian Superman are in a romantic relationship 1:18 Hitler deserved that grueling shit 😂😂
While the concept in the comic is very interesting, I think it is executed rather poorly and a lot of the stuff doesn't really make sense... like the Freedom Fighters basically killing Metropolist with the crashing Eagle's Nest and saying it's "for the people"
yeah i mean were they just hoping that superman would leave? out of what some sort of expectation of goodheartedness, they knew it wouldnt kill superman and from their perspective he shouldnt have any redeemable qualities
Ya see, Marvel would never try to do anything like this. Oh no, it would stain their image, but DC could not care less. They were like "Heck yeah, Nazi Superman."
@@Ripplistic you know you can talk about nazis in regular conversation right? Unless someone walks by and hears you actively praising the reich or something, they most likely aren't gonna care, least not where I'm from
I know Superman is the bad guy in this but at the end of the, I can’t help but see uncle sam as the villain. I mean he literally killed millions just to prove a point
Think this comic really misses a lot of superman's roots and a lot of america's history and how much the nazis got from us and how much america was like them.
Nazi Batman must not be as smart as normal Batman, considering normal Batman would've saw what bringing someone literally called *"THE HUMAN BOMB"* onto a spacestation would result in.
I like that no matter what, no matter who raises him or his circumstances, Superman eventually does the right thing in these stories. Because at heart, superman is a good person. Even if it takes a while for him to figure out what good actually is.
This feels like a sort of "reverse Injustice" in that instead of a good Superman turning into a dictator, we see an evil Superman being mentally crushed by the moral atrocities he has committed to the point he can't bring himself to do it anymore.
I honestly wanted to see more of the freedoms fighters against the Nazi-league. Spoilers ahead! It’s why the 2018 series was something of a disappointing. Still Uncle Sam crushing cyborg overman well worth the price of the trade.
Just so you know: Von Braun was a real person and the guy who invented modern rockets. He would be snatched by NASA after the war and build the rockets that moved us to the moon. History is curious.
Now hold on. How are you gonna blame Overman for what happens to metropolis? Millions died because the Super Good Guy Resistance™ dropped a fuckin space station on a city. I get it, "Nazis bad! 😡" But this is like blaming Superman for Joker blowing up metropolis in Injustice. Which if you use the same logic, you could.
While I am glad this isn't just an inverse of "If Superman was raised by Stalin", it still sounds ridiculous with seemingly the main goal of making Uncle Sam look really cool xD
@mrpizzawizard brother, I know all about the scp foundation. This. This is a joke. Because what in gods name can actually beat the strongest anti-meme in the verse, actually?
Don't let people discourage you, everyone has the right to enjoy what they like. I was here when reading comics was cringe, at the time when the word cringe didn't even exist. To quote Stan Lee, they are characters, whoever the writer wants them to win is going to win, no matter what justification you try to give. So don't think about it too much. I know absolutely nothing about SCPs, but the Justice League has already faced beings with cosmic powers, and most of the members are broken to a level that one could argue they are not well written, so I could imagine DC winning. But, I don't like power scaling, I think it discredits comics and only divides the community, instead of appreciating how beautiful comics are.
