Suggestion: Obi-Wan is not yet on the Council either. Anakin is absolutely the hero of Utapau and is definitely the one responsible for such a decisive victory. And there's an opening on the Council - on another planet, a Jedi Council member was killed in battle. So Anakin and Obi-Wan are summoned to the Council for an "important announcement." Both think this means Anakin is going to finally be named to the Council with this opening, but they're both shocked when they give the position to **OBI-WAN**. So now in addition to his anger that you've set up in here, this serves as another wedge between the two of them.

He doesn't even actually call attention to it, but one of my favourite things in these are the Jedi uniforms. One of the stupidest things about the prequels was all the Jedi dressing in robes just because Obi-Wan wore them, I mean the man was a goddamn desert hermit. The jedi wearing more combat like uniforms reminiscent of what Luke is wearing in Return of the Jedi is way cooler and makes way more sense.

My favorite part about this is when Anakin force chokes Darth Maul... it gives awesome foreshadowing without the big reveal

I literally just noticed that the jedi aren't wearing robes, but outfits similar to what Luke wore in ROTJ. This enforces Luke being an offical jedi by episode 6. I actually really like this.

3 things: I think you could capitalize on your revised role for Grievous by having him ambush and kill Windu in the battle. Windu being overcome by droids is a little disappointing but seeing him get murked by grievous would be sick. I feel like Anakins turn on Obi-Wan is a bit forced here. His bitterness about being rejected from the council might cause tension, or drive a wedge between them but I can't see Anakin being convinced that Obi-Wan has been working against him all along in this new story. I think Obi-wan would have to do more to personally hurt Anakin, like take Windu's side in the council instead of anakin's, which would portray him to Anakin as being a bit of Windu's lapdog, giving Palpatine material to work with, as well as giving Anakin a concrete and explicit reason to be provoked to violence against him. It could also help for it to be revealed that Obi-Wan used to have the hots for Padme because then Anakin could accuse Obi-Wan of being jealous, and being a hypocrite. I'm not convinced that a mother would hand over her child just because her husband went nuts. It seems a bit too emotionally detached to say "you're right I've done a poor job at being a good influence in someone's life and I am a high profile individual therefore it would be most logical for you to care for my offspring", it sounds more Vulcan to me. I think it would make more sense if Padme and Obi-Wan were forced down a path that took them somewhere unfit for a child.

I love the small change with Anakin choking Maul, and I also love that you display that anybody can become Darth Vader when in the wrong circumstances. In episode 6 you get a hint that Vader was once a normal guy dealt with the wrong hand. Your version of the prequels stayed very true to that.

When Obi-Wan and Anakin come head to head in the ending, the building up conversation and Anakin striking his Saber would be a perfect time for a light rendition of Vader's theme for some symbolism and light fan service

Only halfway through, but I love the point that Windu makes that Anakin will never be a master. It almost puts him into a caste system since he started his training so late that he will never be like the "true" Jedi, who trained since they were young. It paints a more gray picture of the Council. More than just twiddling their thumbs because they're pacifists (like in the movies), they have an edge about them that is fundamentally flawed. It makes us, as the audience, question their very nature rather than just frustrate us because they are so "good".

Owen wanting to live it up on Coruscant is a great character moment. Reminds me of Luke thinking everything will be solved when he's a jedi, and then becoming a hermit. Reality rarely matches up with what you envision.

I love that Palpatine is totally like a real politician haha. Not that he isn't in the actual prequels, but his approach of telling everyone what they want to hear, and not just Anakin. "Hey I hear you. That's cool. Totally understand." and then proceeds to just do what he does behind the scenes anyway. Just like a true politician, he finds ways to try to keep on people's "good side", while totally still doing whatever the hell he wants, and with only his own goals in mind. I love it.

These videos are the prequel canon in my head.

Having the Jedi be massively killed in one battle make them feel small and less powerful, in comparison to being betrayed by their comrades. Obi-Wan and Luke already had attention brought to them by the fact that they were carrying the droids, using the lightsaber or not wouldn't affect the fact that they already were a target.

Man, that Obi-Wan/Anakin/Maul "kill him" scene sounded sooooooo good! Especially that bit where Anakin force chokes Maul. Fuck yes! Watching these videos makes me sad you weren't in control of the prequels.

I like how the Jedi robes look nothing like Obi-Wan's robes from A New Hope. Obi-Wan was in hiding in A New Hope, he shouldn't be in his fucking Jedi Uniform! Props to this video!

In ep IV - as soon as Vader says, "When I left you, I was but the learner, now I am the Master." - it'd be pretty obvious who was under the mask at that point. Bottom line - Anakin has to put the black suit on. Other than that, this is gold.

I can agree on most of these points, but I feel that Order 66 is still needed in some form or another. Can we really believe that ALL the Jedi were gunned down on the Battle of Mustafar? All the younglings too? Order 66 was a way for the majority of the Jedi to be wiped out.

But then Yoda wouldn't know anything about Luke and Vader wouldn't have known that he had a child, and you completely forgot about Leia. I don't agree with that scene where they are all talking about their ambitions. And if not all the Jedi are killed, why would Yoda abandon them all and go into hiding? His job is to keep the balance of the force, yet he just lets the Sith do as they please. There was a lot I did like about your interpretation, but it's not without it's holes.

There’s a major problem with trying to keep Anakin being Vader a secret. In a New Hope it’s stated multiple times that Kenobi taught Vader. Given there was no Darth Vader in episode I-III people would easily conclude Anakin is Vader. Also Obi-Wan specifically said “Vader helped the empire hunt down the Jedi”. Having all the Jedi just die because of a poor battle plan is stupid

Obi-Wan did have to elude the Stormtroopers in Mos Eisley, who WERE called in after Obi-Wan's lightsaber incident. A huge part of the Mos Eisley sequence is them hiding from the Stormtroopers and barely escaping in the Falcon. Even if there is no Order 66, by the time of Episode 4 Jedi are clearly enemies to the Empire, just from Obi-Wan's line about how Vader hunted them down. So I don't think Michael's argument of Mos Eisley is a very strong one.

I think you should have made Beru an active character in the group of heroes as well, another cool female character to add and it also helps with continuity when she says the line in A New Hope, "He has too much of his father in him."

i watch these star wars what if's every now and then. and i always tear up a little at owen's speech at the end. you are really good with your voice, adding emotion to it and all

So we've got The Force Awakens, Rogue One, Episode VIII, something else, Episode IX, and another something else... I have a feeling that if Disney decided to, they would have a ton of support for scrapping just a little more Star Wars canon, and remaking the prequel trilogy. Like.. seriously, assuming they do a good job with these six, there would probably be a lot more support for remaking the prequels, than there was for decanonizing the EU. I want to see what they have to say about it. Like, if you pitched them this idea, and these storyboards... What would their response be?

Personally, I would keep Order 66, and the non-reaction in the canteena examplifying exactly how much time has past.

You lost me with removing Order 66. That's the master stroke of Sidious's plan, the payoff to him making a clone army, & the explanation of how you kill unbeatable magic warriors: Have their own troops shoot them in the back. Honestly, it feela like it kind of goes off the rails from there. Why does Obi-Wan go from "the Sith Lord needs a trial" to "I must leave Anakin to die"? Yoda deciding to ditch the galaxy for 20 years is kind of a dick move & the implication that it's his plan makes no sense when he tries to turn Luke away. Also, I liked the finale duels.

And though it may be a bit to close to Star Wars, I'd love to hear What If Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Were Good?

I like the character arcs, but it’s missing the raw shocking elements of all the Jedi being wiped out with the younglings. The Jedi aren’t destroyed in this version like they need to be in A New Hope. This version is bleak, but not in a broad sense. Only from the views of our characters

Definitely keep the 'What if' series alive Michael! There's so much you can do with it. Here's some ideas: - What if video game movies were good? (here you could go into why video game movies suck and submit an idea for your favourite game franchise and how you'd make a good film out of it) - What if there was a good Fantastic Four movie? - What if there was an Indiana Jones 5? - What if there was another good Terminator film after Judgement Day? Keep up all the excellent work man!

I think the best part of this series is the jedi outfit I mean, you expect us to belive these people jump around and do extremely sophisticated lightsaber techniques in a god damn bathrobe? And it also makes Luke's outfit make more sense.

I hope you will make a What If Episode 7-8-9 were good!! I don’t think they were all that bad but I feel like they were not well connected together and I’d love to hear another version of that story from your point of you!

What if the Star Wars Christmas Special were good?

I think Yoda should be a legend in the prequels. Some legendary great jedi master with great wisdom that nobody has seen since a lot of time. It would not spoil the twist with the character in episode V, and also fits him imo

I have one problem, we won't get the perfect ending between Obi-Wan and Maul in rebels

i feel like the anakin's fall and manipulation to the dark side should be more explored,but i loved the idea of force choking darth maul,kicking out anakin of the jedi, the yoda-palpatine scene at the end,and many other things. overall a very enjoyable video,thanks for sharing tha.

But Obi-Wan says in 'A New Hope' that Vader helped hunt down and kill the Jedi. So Order 66 (or something like it) fits more. Also the Cantina goers aren't clones or stormtroopers. They don't know about Order 66, and clearly don't care about a Jedi showing up. It wasn't a call for the whole galaxy to turn on the Jedi, just the troopers. I'm not trying to start anything. I've loved these videos, and appreciate your hard work, I just genuinely adore REVENGE OF THE SITH.

If you're intending these movies to be watched in order, I can only think of one problem with this, which is that the whole Yoda twist in Episode 5 would be spoiled in this. Also when Obi-Wan tells Luke that Darth Vader murdered his Father, we would know that wasn't true because we never saw Darth Vader.

Honestly I really just can't see a situation in which Yoda doesn't actually confront the Emperor in some way. In the movie we got its an absolute last ditch effort to save everyone that ultimately fails. In this scenario its just "Sooooo...you gonna let me take over?" "Yeah sure why not?" "Soooooo....see you never then?" "Yeah." Yoda's smart and the Emperor wouldn't want to die now that he's achieved all that. He would've outed him as a Sith right there and thus no longer a traitor. Also Order 66. Some form of that still has to come down. Even if this were the last battle and several high ranking Jedi are killed what about the ones retired from the front lines or run the temple? They have to be dealt with and without an official declaration or inciting incident the Jedi Order still remains. Its fractured but it remains and all of those Jedi still kicking around in a place where they can organize is too much for an injured Anakin to deal with alone even over 20 years. A form of Order 66 has to come down. The Jedi are still too strong by the end of this scenario even if some of their best members are killed in that battle. They still have a base, several students, and a point they can rally too. Order 66 broke that by the clones razing the temple and managing to kill all its occupants.

In that scene where Anakin chokes Darth Mall, I think that he should have pushed Obi-Wan to the ground “AFTER” he used the force to pull Anakin’s lightsaber away, not before. Because that to me was the only moment that felt like it escalated a little to quickly in this version of the movie. But apart from that, this video is great!

In 50 years where they inevitably remake all the Star Wars films, they should use these plots for the prequels

I kinda liked the start of this but it doesn't add up in a few places 1. Not all Jedi are on one planet. They are spread out throughout the galaxy. So how would Palpitine exterminate the other Jedi? 2. How would the transition to the Empire go through? 3. What happens to separatist leaders? 4. About a year before the events of Episode 4 Palpitine ended the hunt for Jedi. 5. What happens to Padme? 6. Wouldn't Palpitine want Yoda dead if there were a few left? And what would happen to Jedi that survived the battle? The video is really good, but it has a lot of loose ends.

I have seen and heard many ways to re-do but all with hate, anger, and impatient. But these are told beautifully with a pitch that flows smoothly between 3 movies with a theme that is truly one with the force

Why is it droids that capture palpatine?! You said you wanted Grevious to be badass and that he's pissed, so why not rework the situation into something like this: Padme is still defending palpatine, but just when they're getting overwhelmed by droids, some major Jedi steps in, like Aayla Secura or someone. Then, they apprehensively watch as Grevious arrives and tears through a few clones to get to them. Aayla does well against Grevious for a second, but she gets her ass kicked the second he reveals his four arms. Heck, she could even be the Jedi that gets stabbed by a charred wrist. He would toss Padme aside like she's nothing and grab palpatine. Bam. Situation ten times cooler, plus we get to see Grevious's four arms.

I watched all of your "What if?" videos. To be honest, they make the series a lot better in a lot of ways. However, there are still some major problems with it, especially in this Ep 3 video: 1. Order 66 not being a thing: Order 66 is CRUCIAL to the Star Wars plot. Without Order 66, what is the point of Palpatine even constructing the clone army? If your goal is to kill jedi, then why make an army whose only purpose is to help them fight? Why not just have the jedi fight the war themselves? You said Order 66 doesn’t make sense because it’s an order to bomb your own military, so your solution is an order to…. Bomb their own military? The point you made about Obi-Wan using his lightsaber in A New Hope doesn’t make sense. Let’s forget the prequels even exist. Do you think that in the universe of the original trilogy that Palpatine would just be cool with a bunch of Jedi running around freely? Palpatine HAS to kill ALL the Jedi in order for his plan to work. Also, not all jedi are fighters, so even if a bunch of them died in the explosion, there would still be hundreds if not thousands of Jedi left. 1000 jedi vs 2 sith? It makes sense that the jedi are almost completely wiped out and those who survive are forced into exile. Why else would Yoda have to live in the middle of nowhere? 2. Palpatine not knowing who he wanted his apprentice to be until Maul’s death: This is stupid because the whole point of Palpatine staging his capture in the first place was so that he could get Anakin to kill Dooku, thus furthering his descent into darkness. What would be the point of him even being captured in this version? 3. Maul’s death: It should not be possible to kill a jedi/sith by force choking them. If Anakin could kill Maul by force choking him, then why didn’t he do that at the very beginning. I know Dooku choked Obi-Wan in the movies, but he didn’t kill him. Big difference. It’s more like something that caught Obi-Wan off-guard, and if Dooku hadn’t thrown him, he would have gotten free. 4. Death of Grievous: Grievous in this version is made out to be an unstoppable killing machine, but he dies in a random explosion? 5. Dooku’s Character What is the point of Dooku in this version? He serves no use other than a plot device. Why would he reject Sidious’ demands? What happens to him after? Why wouldn’t he coordinate with the Jedi to stop Sidious? His scene could have been reconstructed as an explanation for how he got to power: by staging an ambush and killing off all of his rivals in the Separatist Alliance and then blaming it on the Republic. It would have strengthened his character a lot more. 6. Obi-Wan vs Anakin fight: What is the purpose of their fight in this version? Why does Anakin want to kill Obi-Wan? Because he’s mad? That’s not a reason. Why does Obi-Wan want to stop Anakin? Because he said something mean? In the movies, Obi-Wan HAS to stop Anakin because he’s killing all the Jedi and is Sidious’ right hand man. Anaking HAS to kill Obi-Wan because he thinks Obi-Wan betrayed him and he also has to destroy the Jedi. 7. Yoda not fighting: I don’t think it’s contrary to Yoda’s character to use a lightsaber, but anyway. In your version, all the jedi talk about how cool Yoda is, but he never does anything but talk, and then at the end, he just makes a sarcastic remark toward Palpatine and leaves? He doesn’t even try to stop him? 8. Maul: I think Maul’s character in the Clone Wars tv show was a lot better than in this version personally. I like the ark it gives Obi-Wan, but his character is just more wasted here. 9. Darth Vader?: So…How exactly does Anakin become Darth Vader? What exactly is the action which turns him to the Dark Side? Fighting Obi-Wan? There’s nothing in this version that suggests such a transition. Also, how would he have survived? He survives in the movies because Palpatine saves him. In this version, Palpatine doesn’t even know he was on Mustafar.

The time has come. Execute order: "What if the Star Wars sequels were good... like really good?"

I personally never had any issue with Order 66. I always thought it was kind of cool and clever how the clones were basically an army of sleeper agents, perfectly positioned to take out the Jedi and immediately begin exerting the Empire's will when the time came.
