I found it really strange that you didn’t mention Monero. Bitcoin and most other cryptocurrencies aren’t intended to be private. Most people buying or selling drugs don’t even use bitcoin anymore because of this.
5 days ago you had 8k subs , today you've already doubled that. That's amazing and not at all surprising given the quality and effort you put into your videos. RU-vid algorithm was kind enough to recommend one of your videos and i was instantly hooked, keep up the good work.
not at all considering it was 2010 in the shows timeline when he had the 80 millon and btc was worth less then a cent per coin that year he would had bought so much fucking bitcoin idk why this dude is using 2021 prices of btc
Bitcoin mixers are not that great though, its very expensive, especially with that kind of money. It's probably smarter to exchange the BTC to monero and then back to BTC. It's cheaper and safer (BTC mixers are often scam).
Generally when you deal in any illicit good, heavy volume discounts are given. If they're selling gram quantities for $60, they would not be selling 50 pound quantities at $60/g. 50 pounds would more realistically sell for $25k to $30k.
Relatively new channel, with very few (8) episodes, would be my guest. Still, 4.71k subs. In fact, having so many subs and views for so few episodes, is actually impressive.
WHY does this video only have 8k views? BRUH The amount of work you're putting in is way way more than other youtubers. I hope this channel goes to trending section :D
I love how governments hate crypto for "money laundry", yet banks throughout the world commit this act daily and when caught they get a minor fine. Lets be honest, such a small fine means the governments sanction the act by getting a kickback.
Taxes are a fine for doing things "right". Fines are a tax for doing things "wrong". Billion dollar corporations and banks pay their .01% tax and are happy about it.
Great video! But I think it would have been interesting to look at how Walter would have managed back around the time the show aired (2008-2013), because things were definitely different back then, and I can think of a few different ways to do it which would've worked back then.
The biggest factors would be a) bitcoins were super cheap. Maybe 10s or only 100s of dollars, if even that. b) were there even enough bitcoins in existence to make up the 18m he had burred?
one note when dealing with bitcoin: it is not fully anonymous, so any attempt to launder money would be the same as the car-wash example. it would be better to use Monero for it actually hides the sender and recipient automatically, not just makes one-time pseudo-anonymous id's (as you stated with bitcoin wallets) which can, yes, be backtracked to the origin. by FBI or anyone else with the time and money to do correlation attacks. also question, how do you think they find out they were "illicit" purchases? also mixers are a good thing due to it increasing the fungibility (the ability for 1 dollar to equal 1 dollar) of bitcoin (the actual ability to use them, cause the ones "caught" by the cops gets a permanent record and thus are worth less than "virgin" bitcoins). Hope you have a great day & Safe Travels!
doesnt matter if you use monero. When fbi ask you where you got 1.3 milion usd from, you need to be able to proove the source of the funds. " i got them from a friend" Then you have to show fbi who your friend are and als he will have to show reciept of the funds he sent you. You cant just make the transaction anonomous and think fbi ill not charge you for money laundering. Proof of work and proof of funds is what you need to explain.
@@philcooper9225 Where he has to mortgage his house, sell all of his belongings, and work 3 jobs for the rest of his impoverished life to pay for treatment. So its a lose lose.
@@antiqueantique7786 Not wanting to work for his survival, Walter stays in Canada where he progresses from stage 2 to stage 4 on a waitlist and by the time he gets treatment, its too late. In your heart you know nothing is ever free. If you doubt that, ask a gen x you trust and they can explain why.
He wouldn't have sold 50lbs at 60 per g. That's what the dealers who get it from the dealers who bought it from ol Walt would've sold it for. He would've sold it for much less due to bulk pricing duscounts
The step 2 to 3 doesn't make sense. OTC is still a huge transfert of money between two people that you have to justify. The same way you cannot withdraw a million from an exchange to a bank account, you cannot receive a million from a random dude.
Wonderful video, thank you for the content. The dude should work on his sneakers work though - he's looking clean and neat otherwise, but those shoes be ruining it all
Just pay a travel agency in Asia the $80 million dollars. Go to Macau where you'll get that much in casino chips. Gamble a bit tax free. Agency takes their cut, Casino takes a bit of money you lost, and you're likely left with $70 million dollars in clean cash to spend. You look like a hotshot gambler, and can invest that money in legitimate businesses, real estate, or low-risk annuities and index funds. You've diversified, and have growing wealth to take care of your family for generations to come.
5:59 Absolutely loved the hypothetical idea in the video only problem for me was at the. Timestamp. Law abiding nowadays isn't a virtue. That said you're going down as a RU-vid Legend
I'm so glad you didn't give any kind of spoiler alert but you gave away the entire story and ending... thanks... oh well good thing I've seen it at least and for anyone else... spoiler alert since this guy ^^^ didn't give one.
My question would be if one possessed $80,000,000.00 cash why not open a bank? If i wanted to buy I'd borrow the money then once everyone is happy aboit the cash I'd simply pay off my loan because i own the bank....
That figure for the car wash doesnt include expenses of operating. If you have a gross profit or 95%, it is highly suspicious. If you have a gross profit of 30%, its more believable.
He said the pizza was worth it. Plus Walter should buy XRP if he wants to be a good criminal. Then become an artist where you sell invisible art to companies as an investment, he already had the hat
When I was younger, I worked on a PI job in which we actually kept an eye on a carwash. We would keep track of how many cars actually used the service to see if his books were straight. Boring!
Laundering funds through crypto is complicated if not impossible at higher values. You have to find a seller or sellers(s) who will be willing to trade on a darknet market or non-kyc exchange. These exchanges simply do not have that Liquidity. Not to mention the element of trust involved, sending parcels of cash by mail hoping they don't get stopped on the way or meeting a complete stranger in person with huge stacks of cash. This hypothetical scenario of yours just skips many important details that would make it impossible.
Wouldn't it be better to buy mining equipment with cash, and rent a decommissioned factory with existing power infrastructure? He could choose a area close to a hydropower plant for cheap electricity. Then he could rent it out to a third party for a cut of the virgin crypto. Another solution could be to set up a bunch of companies and lease single rooms in office complexes. Buy mining equipment and put it in a locked closet and run it 24/7 . Afterwards he could rent out the office space to legit businesses. The invoices to the power company would be so small that they could easily be paid in cash by smurfs who visits different banks.
it was much easier to launder money into crypto back in 2010 and btc was also MUCH cheaper idk why you talking about 2021 prices when the show timeline is 2010
Ok, I get it, but even so, how would he withdraw that money in the final step without arrousing suspicion? Seems like there is still nothing explaining the provenence of the cash (taking us back to the car wash dilema).
Exactly this is what most crypto guys fail to understand this is why when ever people bring up crypto and laundering I simply say you dont understand what crypto is actually for as far as illicit business goes
