I've actually been in this situation before. Running is best, but if you can run and pull a weapon, in flight, much better. BTW, the best option, good situational awareness so you don't ever end up in this scenario.

Everyone says the "What If?" game is sheer paranoia. I say, that thought process is crazy. Nothing wrong with recognizing any situation that may go wrong and to be prepared for it, regardless of the scenario. Whether its life threatening, financial, emotional or situational. Best to be prepared for anything and you'll be able to react much quicker and level minded. That is, more so than others that have not. Great vid. Ill try dropping as I suffered a heart-attack 😁
Paranoid is a word that is so over-used. It is normal for humans or any animal to be situationally aware. But humans will look for the easy way out because they value comfort over the small extra effort it takes to be aware of your surroundings. Animals are always on the look-out for possible dangers. Hell, drive through some neighborhoods and notice how many garage doors are open during day and night, people driving with back windows open on a slow street, heads buried in cell phone screens while out and about. Then we complain about high crime, high insurance rates, accidents... Be aware folks!

I am so glad John is now a contributor on this show. His advise is well reasoned an utterly practical. As an instructor, this is the only show I recommend to my students.
All very good advice, especially regarding standing your ground and not being taken to a secondary scene. Another option also would have been to immediately access your firearm once you have blocked and trapped the attacker's gun hand and shoot several shots low to the pelvic girdle, then to the head. Block, trap, shoot.
I have been in a situation worse than this 3 vs 1 I decided to fight. I got my ass beat and shot once but I survived. I think it would have been worse had I not fought. I did get some good licks in on them and used my surroundings to negate the numbers but I still got my ass kicked.
I know ppl that carry two wallets for these kinds of situations. First wallet has all the important stuff you need daily. Second wallet has $20 and that’s it. When asked for your wallet, you give the one with $20, he or they leave and you take off to a safe distance, check your six and pull your gun.

Suprised you didn't use the elbow..get the weapon out of line with the body . Don't just give in ! Do something even if it's not the perfect thing .. just DO SOMETHING !
Bolt and draw. Get some distance and/or cover, and look back to see what they’re doing. If they start shooting or running at you, shoot back from cover or while trying to move. If they start going away, keep your gun up until they’re gone and call the cops. Edit: serpentine tactics every one. Don’t run in a straight line.
When someone puts a gun or knife against your back DO NOT PULL OUT A CONCEALED GUN! you are going to get shot or stabbed because your attacker already has a weapon on your body and you still have to pull it out, turn around, aim and only then can you do anything with it. So please don't do that
I have watched several disarming techniques and all of them step 1 (after weighing the best time to disarm) is Push gun away from body by grabbing slide. How do you feel about this with a semi-auto and potentially being fired?
Great video John. To me run is a great option. At least to cover and then engage if I can't get away. As far a going "Chuck Norris" on em... that crap is for the movies. Even if your good, you stand a great chance of getting shot.
I had a knife pulled on me twice. The first time i could talk my way out of it and the second time well a ESP baton fell out of my sleeve and i tooled them up a little bit.
(1) Situational Awareness: check back route, use CCTV or don't go out the back, or leave with a buddy. (2) "Halp!" (3) Wear a spiffy golf shirt with insignia similar to The Knights Templar. (4) Reread fanboy comments on the throne.
I prefer compliance myself, it's worked for me in the past. I'm not much of a fighter and I don't carry, and I don't think I would have much success trying to run away and my suit and dress shoes. But I find that if I put my hands up immediately and do exactly as I'm told it usually works.
Watch "the reality show of RU-vid", Active Self Protection. Dude takes the time to upload news and surveillance videos from around the world. Videos show everything from a victim grabbing the gun used by the robber and killing him with it to the shooting murder of a man and wife by their neighbor. With this situation try to find out if the business you back door through has a camera. If paranoid poke your head out ready to slam the door if someone is there.
Would it be dumb to grab slide to put out of battery and then pull out your own gun shoot from hip? Gamble he wont tap rack shoot before you get shots off. But I guess a dead guy can still kill so...
