It’s not right after the night together. The kids got married. Later (That night was long ago and far away so much better than it is today) and he says he won’t break the vow, but it’s changed, he will keep his promise til the end of time - so they’re praying for the end of Time. A metaphor for the regret they feel, despite the nostalgia for the memories of the passion. For that generation, many could see in their families couples that have stayed despite fighting, bickering, etc., even by the late 70s divorce had a stigma associated with it and the Courts were reluctant to grant it without trying alternative attempts to keep families together. I remember numerous couples relating to this as they lost the live for their spouse but stayed together for the kids, faith, or whatever. Teens related it to the pressures and risks of rushing into intimacy in relationships, etc., but you hit on it, the dramatic entertainment of the song was simply fun. Also it was usually years before we saw this video, it was before the days of music videos and MTV. The song itself was an incredible dramatic listen and Jim Steinman’s music had your feet jumping … it was an experience in addition to being a brilliant song idea.

When we told the DJ that he was going to play this song at my wife and I's wedding reception, he looked at us in horror. Before he played it, we had all the guys and all the girls line up across from each other. It was the hit we expected it to be. Everyone got into it. Old, young, people who didn't know the words and people who did. The guys sang the guys part, the girls sang the girls part. It was an amazing time. They mention vows- he did marry her. That’s why he says it was long ago and things were better then. It’s years later snd the marriage went downhill because they married so young and immaturely. The funny thing is, this was the song they played as a joke, for me and my husbands first wedding dance. Because our first outing together was a lake trip, but with friends. So we went with it and laughed. We are now celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary ( and 5 kids) next week. We play it every year snd dance together in the family room- we consider it our lucky song to remind us of what real love is.

Meatloaf was the epitome of "rock opera." Everything he did was theatrical, especially his concerts, you'd think you were at a Broadway show. He was incredible, arguably one of the most underrated artists in the industry.
@stephentraylor2315
@stephentraylor2315 Год назад
Meatloaf began his career in musical theatre. In the early Seventies he performed in the Rocky Horror (stage) Show on Broadway (playing both Eddie and Dr. Scott) and in Los Angeles. He also performed in the L.A. production of "Hair." Meatloaf is what's called a Heldentenor, an "heroic tenor" in opera. Jim Steinman, the band's piano player, wrote the music and songs for "Bat Out of Hell" album and described his music as "Wagnerian rock."

@declaneric
@declaneric Год назад
@@aebalc He was underrated, in that - despite his album success, he never gained the mainstream popularity of other elite artists during his time. And Bat Out of Hell initially didn't sell well, in the US or UK in particular, because Brits didn't really know who he was. The video for the song Bat Out of Hell was released early in the UK on a popular tv show, and that's when UK audiences started buying the album. What popularity he did have in the US at the time was mostly built on his Broadway performances in Hair and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. | And a big chunk of his sales for Bat Out of Hell came in the 90s, after the release of Bat Out of Hell II:Back Into Hell. I Would Do Anything for Love was a smash hit, and had X-gens like me going back to find the first album. Th X-gens had also grown up on The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the cult following of which exploded in the mid 80s and 90s. So we knew who Meatloaf was. When BOoH II came out, we went nuts. My mom had his BOoH album, so I didn't have to go buy it. But I never listened to it until the second one came out and it made me wonder about the first. | He's always had a cult following but, in the recording industry, he's always been considered more of an eccentric artist with a niche style that didn't have universal appeal. And so many people in the industry believed he never got the full respect for how talented he really was. I always thought that as well and, after he died last January, a number of tributes went out to him. And It struck me how many artists mentioned him being underrated, and I felt a little better, that I didn't misread him, many in the industry thought the same thing. Apparently, many felt the fact that he hadn't been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was an indication of that.

OMG! I'm such a geek for the RHPS lmao 🤣 idk what it is other than Tim Curry as Franken Furter and of course the fun and catchy music, but I absolutely love it! I've got the movies, collectables, posters, comics, away albums etc... lol I would love if there existed a full recording of a showing of the original Musial or one of the original beau's when it opened in the U.S. at The Roxy, but pictures and the original live albums are enough! Lol I still haven't ever been to a midnight showing, or in an audience participation (idk how safe that is nowadays tho) but I'd still go if I have the chance! Lol The movie has a great cast, young movie stars in the making like, Susan Sarandon & of course Meatloaf, he's actually very good on film and at theatrics, which is kind of obvious if you've ever watched any of his concerts or live stage performances. I've got the remake movie too, there's a lot of credible celebrities in that one also and very talented,still nothing beats the original, at least imo. The comment about not having Meatloaf again is said in the remake version as a nod to the actual Meatloaf playing "Eddie" in the original & also bc it's insinuated that Fter the I e pick incident Franken Furter has him prepared & served to the guests & they unknowingly eat him at dinner, yeah if You haven't seen this cult gem, it's shocking, crazy, weird, silly, & a funny sci Fi/horror/rock musical, I left out provocative, unapologetic, & sensual lol I know this started out about Meatloaf but I took it somewhere else. Woops! I wonder what Jay & Ambers reactions would be to this one????!!! I think they would find the art in it and an appreciation for it, also I think you can draw your own conclusions or take something from it that applies to life and ones individuality & freedoms, even if there isn't supposed to be a moral as the writer has said, you can still find something hidden there. I just think it would be an amusing and hilarious reaction to watch tho😆 If they start doing reviews or reactions to movies ALSO, I think that would be interesting and fun, but like with movies and maybe documentaries just associated with & about music. So to keep the musical aspect there but expand on even more musical knowledge of history of the songs, artists, back stories etc... There's a wide variety right there with biopics, musicals, rock operas, band/music documentaries, concert movies, movies with bands/artists starring in them, & all the great fictional music movies. I'd like to watch reactios with them of the movies that everyone has sent them, they all are greats & ive got a few in mind I really want them to see, I know that would be more time consuming, especially with editing & their busy lives with parenting, work, the kids and with the new arrival almost there!💙 It's just something that came to my always rambling mind that I think would be fun, but I definitely love their music reactions here & wouldn't want that to change either. Love watching them, they are so good together and doing this YT & musical journey as a team, love the positive vibes and the strong appreciation for music c and art, I love how y'all don't take things for granted and how that you have a wonderful and strong structure of family built on love, positivity, & doing things as a family unit. I just can’t look at Meatloaf and not think of the movie “Rocky Horror Picture Show”. He was great in the movie. If you haven’t ever seen it he movie you need to go to a midnight showing at your local theater it’s a great experience. It’s the longest running movie and it’s interactive which is why you need to go to a late showing. I first went I was 4 years old (my mother didn’t believe in leaving me at home, if she was going I went everywhere with her)and I’ve gone almost every year since. Come on … lessgo “Bat out of hell” “Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad” “For Crying Out Loud” Why did Ellen Foley not tour with Meat Loaf? With her voice, she landed a contract to do her own projects, which meant by the time “Paradise By The Dashboard Light” was released, she was too busy launching her solo career. Therefore, she declined Meat Loaf's offer to go on tour with him; hence, she was replaced by Karla DeVito. Amber had me laughing hysterically throughout the entire performance. I am 53 and a couple years ago I was sitting in Starbucks sipping on my latte, killing time before heading over to my doctors appointment. I was a regular there as the store was located 2 minutes from the hospital district that was my home away from home. Anways, I am sipping my latte, laughing to myself as this song is blasting in my headphones. One of the girls, baristas, comes walking by to go on her break and stops in front of me and motioned me to pause the music. I did and I told her I was laughing about the song. She was about 21-22 years old and wanted to listen, so I gave her my headphones and started the song over. That poor girl, I was fighting laughing at her facial expressions. I think she was a few minutes from an aneurysm after the last 5 minutes of the song. She stood there stunned and I had noticed the song had switched and "Two Out Of Three" had started playing. She took the headphones off and looked me dead in the eye and asked me "What play/show that Paradise was from?" She didn't believe me tgat this was just a song off from one of his albums. Then she was confused how "Two Out of Three" could be so beautiful after the frantic song prior to it... Great review you two, I needed a good laugh tonight... Meat Loaf's songwriter, Jim Steinman, actually adapted a few of the songs on Bat out of Hell from a musical of his called Neverland which was a sci-fi retelling of the Peter Pan story. Paradise wasn't one of those songs, but later Jim just went and turned Bat out of Hell into its own stage musical.

It's not an immediate switch to the "praying for the end of time." At the end of the song, he says, "It was long ago, and it was far away And it was so much better than it is today". The entire album, Bat Out Of Hell, was pretty much issued to kids in the late 70s/early 80s worldwide sales of 50 million, which is 17x platinum. The album is excellent. The song begins as a flashback to when they were 17 and ends as a married couple who can't stand each other, or at least the husband can't stand the wife anymore. Which brings me to a song by Weird Al called "One More Minute" where Al describes all the things he'd rather do than spend one more minute with this woman including cleaning all the bathrooms in Grand Central Station with his tongue. Important to note that SHE was singing "And now I'm praying for the end of time", etc, just as angrily at Meatloaf. Something about a mutually--defined Hell.

Amber your reaction is 100% spot on, how it feels like a dramatic show instead of just music. Meat Loaf came from a musical theatre background right in the late 60s / early 70s dawn of Rock Opera (Hair, Rocky Horror, etc). The Bat Out Of Hell album is practically a rock opera, so many long epic tracks that tell wild stories!

This album is a gem, I feel like everyone misses the fact that she was also singing that she was waiting for the end of time it was mutual regret that they married for the wrong reasons and made each other unhappy. it's kind of a social commentary on societal expectations vs instinctual behavior.

Yes exactly, the verse that goes "so now Im praying for the end of time..." they are singing this verse in unison. Also if you watch any of the live performances at the end of the song they'd have fights/arguments and he'd call her a "bitch" and she'd call him a "dick." Great Song! Most people miss his first words and his last words in this song, "It was long ago and far away, it was so much better than it is today". This song is about a married couple who made a decision one night long ago in the heat of passion. Now they both realize they made a mistake and can not stand each other. Divorce was frowned upon. You made a promise and you keep the promise. I am so old that I keep waiting for the "click" in the middle of the song. For you young people this album came out on 8 track tape. They only had 8 songs on them. PARADISE BY THE DASHBOARD LIGHT is a long song and was divided on 2 tracks, half the song on 1 track - click,click- then the song would continue on the next one. 8 track cassettes were notorious for eating the tape inside but the albums were great because you got 8 great songs instead of 2 good songs and 20 filler songs like you get now.

I know those clicks! I, without my parent's permission, signed up for one of those music clubs where you would get 12 albums/8 tracks of your choice for free, then you had to buy so many more in a certain time period. The bad part is they would auto-send something random every month, and if you didn't send it back, the bill would start adding up. Ooops! I was 13 and didn't even have a job 😕😜!

This is a key component of the story. They were barely 17, raging hormones, and had no idea what they wanted. So enamored by the heat of the moment, they got caught up, and years later, grew to realize that they were just young and dumb, and now they're miserable woth each other. Anyone who shacked up with a teen sweetheart and stayed for years and years never having the courage to break that vow and leave, will really get this one. What a masterpiece.

This was made to promote the album and was broadcast nation wide on t.v. when it first came out in a Meatloaf special. Also, the woman singing here isn't the actual singer. The real singer was on the first few seasons of the 80's sitcome Night Court ( Not Markie Post ) but they didn't use her in the video because they didn't feel she was attractive enough.
