Robert Plant was our golden haired rock god of the 70s. Jimmy Page didn’t just play the guitar but he breathed life to it. John Paul Jones kept the slow steady tempo, that builds and builds up with the passion of Plant’s voice. John Bonham gave the whole band a heartbeat. Sheer rock, pure and simple. But yet … complex and passionate. One of top 5 rock bands ever.

Mr. Jones is almost always mentioned last in the bunch, but his contribution is WAY underrated and understated. He assembled the technical arrangements and oversaw much of the band's actual production. That, and he's a musical GENIUS, a master of many different instruments. One of the great bassists...I understand he is still busy in the industry...

When one has faith (believes) in the finished work that Christ Jesus completed on the cross. When one believes (has Faith) that Christ rose from the dead on the third day. Repents (changes their mind) and asks God/Jesus Christ for the free gift of eternal life - to know him (Spirit to spirit. One must be born again, born of the Spirit (Holy Spirit), born from above. Joan no one could have said that better than you! :} I graduated High School in 1975 and saw Zep on A Day On The Green at the Oakland Coliseum in July 77 which was unfortunately their last North American Live performance. Plants son passed away after they left Oakland and arrived in New Orleans and they canceled the rest of the tour and did not come back until 79 in Knebworth. We were so lucky growing up in the 60s and 70s. As a Teen in the 70s and now later in life its almost an indescribable era we witnessed back then. Such a simple mellow time of music, partying and no social media and all the electronic crap we have now, we went out side all the time and found things to do and friends to hang out with and chasin all the pretty girls and cruising the strip at night on weekends.. No school shootings and other mass shootings. I feel sorry for the youngsters today. I really do. But no doubt the 70s were a gem of a decade. I won't even get into the get sports teams we had just here in the Bay Area, The Raiders, 49ers, the 3 time World Champ Oakland A's, The Warriors. Fun times for sure!

You should definitely listen to the studio version, which is perfect and has maybe the most iconic guitar solo in rock music. Also it should be noted that Page said these Madison Square Garden concerts were kind of average hohum gigs, not great or bad. It's just when they had the camera's and recording equipment scheduled. Edit: you said you want to hear some more Page hot live soloing, I think the live version of Whole Lotta Love from this MSG concerts has a lot a fun flashy improvised soloing in the middle of it. Page could be pretty sloppy, but he really could play very free and loose, and that's when he's best live.

I saw Led Zeppelin back in 1971 in the Ulster Hall, Belfast.That was actually the first time they performed this new song ,"Stairway" live at the beginning of a tour.Lord Of the Rings was being read by many of us back then so you can see the lyrical influence in some of Zep's songs such as this one.The Irish Troubles were just under way and would continue for nearly thirty years and Belfast was not too safe, with murder everywhere , but the band came anyway and were much appreciated for performing for us hippies in something of a war-zone. More recently I actually met Robert Plant after seeing his own band a few times in Belfast and had a great conversation behind the scenes about all sorts of things(Did you know he fancied being a stone-mason?).A couple of us were guests of his keyboards wizard John Baggot ,so we had a very special all-access time .Referring to the Belfast gig fifty years ago when I was nineteen he said...I was only twenty -three myself ... and we hardly knew what we were doing back then!!

Music back in the day with no autotune and no drum machine, as it should be. I am amazed at how Bohnam and Jones were able to keep a steady, continuous beat and rhythm while Page went off on his solos, almost instinctively knowing when Page was going to stop and pick up where the song left off with Page. LZ had Jimmy on guitar and JPJ on keyboard while playing all the bass on bass pedals with his feet. These young guys were insanely good to be able to make such a sound with 4 people! I used to play in a band. Even my friends LZ fans, ignored that if you listen carefully the STH studio version, Jones keyboard is heard. On RU-vid there are some videos of bands playing Kashmir, in some there are two guitars, in other an orchestra, but the only group that can interpret it with only three musicians is Led Zeppelin. That's why, to me they are the most complete band in rock history; and John Paul Jones is not rated enough and deserves more recognition in my humble opinion. Even in this video the two hosts simply ignored him. He is there, his feeling is in the song but his presence does not.

Studio version next. Stairway to Heaven was constantly listed in yearly countdowns in the top 3 songs of all time for decades. That's because the studio version was perfection. No live version can equal it. !5 years ago Casey Kasem was doing his greatest hits count down when he said that Stairway to Heaven was the 2nd most requested song in history. #1 .... Happy Birthday.

Rarely ever should you do the live version of a song first…no matter how good it may be… Paul McCartney’s Maybe I’m Amazed & Peter Frampton’s Do You Feel Like We Do are a couple rare instances where the live version is better. Led Zeppelin’s studio version of Stairway To Heaven IS the best version to listen to first.

That's what i have been saying or close to it. It really depends on the song what is going to be better, but you are right to start with the studio then go live. When it comes to Smoke on Water. the studio version sounds dead compared to the live Made in Japan version however when it comes to Whiter Shade of Pale no one mentioned the haunting sound of the organ expect for Day One reacts because she is the only one that did the studio version. Also i totally Agree with you about those 2 songs you mentioned. 'Frampton Comes Alive.'

The other song I would add to your list is Cheaptrick "I want you to want me". You have to do the live version. Much better and different than studio version. They made a huge mistake early in their reviews and did a liver version of The Ramones "Blietzkrieg Bop" that was horrible. NEVER introduce someone to the Ramones through a live concert. It's twice as fast as original and the words are incomprehensible. I think it totally turned them off of them.
@robertreichle1
@robertreichle1 2 года назад
It should just be a basic rule. A reactor trying out a new song can't know if it's one of those very rare ones where the live version is the best, so they just have to guess every time. There should be no guessing. Just always go with studio version, and then people will let them know if there's an iconic live version important enough to check out. I don't blame a reactor for it because again, they've never heard it and just don't know. But.. that's why there should be a standard to follow.

I love the live version of Stairway to heaven . The solo is what blows me away. Did you guys know that the footage of the live version of Stairway to heaven is from a concert movie that Led Zeppelin filmed 49 years ago at Madison Square Garden in 1973 but didn't release the concert movie until 1976 when they were inactive from recording in the studio or touring live cuz I think Robert Plant had been in a car accident that resulted in him being injured, so while he was healing Led-Zeppelin put the concert movie out to keep the Fan base happy and Content for the time being until they could start working again. The concert movie is called The Song Remains the same. If you guys ever want to? You can consider reacting to the concert movie. It's pretty good. Btw Jay Jimmy Page is my guitar hero cuz of seeing the movie. I love both the light honey burst finish 1958 Gibson Les Paul he uses as well as the maroon double necked Gibson SG Axe he was shredding on Stairway to heaven there.Listen to Dazed and confused live version from Led-Zeppelin next. That solo is fire. You thought that Stairway to heaven live is something else? You are going to be in for a treat with Dazed and confused live. Jay you are going to love how the song tempo starts out with John Paul Jones plucks at the bass strings. My favorite part of Dazed and confused live is the Scott McKenzie If you are going to San Francisco be sure to wear some Flowers in your hair medley they go into ,but they make that cover song their own. You guys just gotta check out Dazed and confused live.You are right Amber Led Zeppelin wasn't just a group, they are as well as were an experience from 1969-1980. Adding my voice to the chorus calling for the studio version! You MUST experience it! Both versions are great in their own way, but the studio version's success is what caused everyone to fall in love with this song in the first place. Once already in love with it, this one with its live energy, improvisation, and lyrical changes can best be appreciated with the studio version in mind as a frame of reference. But even having heard this one first, you will still be able to appreciate the studio version's clarity, precision, and top-level playing and singing. It's kind of like doing a first-time binge-viewing of a large movie franchise like MCU or Star Wars in theatrical release order versus chronological order within the story line. While some will say chronological for first-timers, most will say theatrical release order, viewing it as all the original audiences first saw it. Plus, there will be references within the movies that only make sense by seeing them in the original order. Then after one is a fan, chronological order will heighten the enjoyment. But it's often regarded as not a good first viewing.

"Hearbreaker" "Since I've Been Loving You" "Celebration Day" "Out On the Tiles" "Black Dog" (I think you have done this one, but it never gets old) "Rock and Roll" "Traveling Riverside Blues" "The Song Remains the Same" "Over the Hills and Far Away" "No Quarter" "Custard Pie" "Kashmir" (check out the live version from the 1979 Knebworth Festival!) "Achilles Last Stand" "For Your Life" "Nobody's Fault But Mine" "Tea For One" "In the Evening" "One Hit (to the Body)" (guest spot with the Rolling Stones) "Scarlet" (guest spot with the Rolling Stones) "Heaven Knows" (Robert Plant solo from 1988)

My interpretation of the hidden meaning of this song. But first the lyrics to the song, which are followed by the interpretation: There's a lady who's sure All that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to Heaven When she gets there she knows If the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh ooh and she's buying a stairway to Heaven There's a sign on the wall But she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook There's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, it makes me wonder There's a feeling I get When I look to the west And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen Rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, it really makes me wonder And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn For those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter If there's a bustle in your hedgerow Don't be alarmed now It's just a spring clean for the May queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by But in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on And it makes me wonder Your head is humming and it won't go In case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow? And did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind? And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all are one and one is all, yeah To be a rock and not to roll And she's buying a stairway to Heaven --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My interpretation of the hidden meaning of this song is below: He is singing about Satan (the Piper), calling you to join him, and he will lead you to [his] truth. Stairway to Heaven = a reference to eternal life in the abode of God and the angels, traditionally depicted as being above the sky. The stores are closed, but the (the May Queen) = those who must be pure in their seeking, those who seek to be a "Rock" (a god), can get what they want with a word (submission to Satan), it can't be purchased with money or in a store. Words have two meanings = Satan's truth can be a lie, and earthly riches (gold) can make you poor (spiritually dead)! Forests = those of this fallen world. Whispering wind = (Satan has the authority of the air) and uses music and the media, and your stairway (to Heaven or godhood, depends on his words). May Queen = symbolized as the woman of purity (One seeking godhood, or their own truth, while denying or rejecting the True God, Yahweh, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). Songbird = (Artist used by demonic forces) is a bird that utters a succession of musical tones (Words or songs with double meanings and secret meanings, which are suggestions from the Piper (Satan). The Piper = (Satan) is ultimately teaching [his] truth, which is saying when "All Are One, And One Is All" (Globalism/Ecumenicalism), you can be a "Rock" (a god), which is the same lie told to Eve in the garden, where one can determine their own truth, their own right and wrong, good and evil...and not "roll" (die)! The lie of Satan led to the fall of mankind, but truth and salvation are found only in Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." (John 10:10 NASB). Blessings, †

My favorite Jimmy Page solo is Since I've Been Loving You, the live version from their concert movie The Song Remains the Same. The entire soundtrack is astonishing. I was taken to all three shows of the concert in that movie, I liked Led Zeppelin but I had no idea. Amber hit it on the head when she said "mystical" and "mesmerizing." From the minute Page started playing for the next three hours I was riveted by his astonishing performance, and no other concert experience I've had since matches that one. Dazed and Confused is another standout. But watch the whole film guys, you won't be sorry.

Quite right, its not about Page solo's its about how Page and Bonham play around each, different beats and rhythymns that dance around each other in seperate time signatures and then synch up on critical beats ... its so special it's unreal

As a 61-year-old I have to say that the studio version was the best. A must listen.

Yeah, the primary reason to watch the live version is for the guitar solo at the end

@@LynneConnolly Wholeheartedly agree and I'm 17yo...My grand dad used to bop this ever since I can remember when I was 7yo...He passed away back in Aug 2022 at age 68 due to heart failure and stroke .Missed him so much..Literally likes and loves him more than my dad since my grand used to raised me when I was a toddler and was more of a father figure to me coz my dad was a messed up and couldnt afford to raised me and was heavily on drugs and any sorts..Still love him though and dont even know where he is at now,hope he doing fine and well .. Back to the point,this particular live verision is the best of the best out of all be it the studio or another live version..This just sounds spectacular and musically attractive more than any verison they did..Jimmy Page absolutely nailed it and hence it's the exact reason i prefer this live version..

"Since I've Been Loving You." I think this is my favorite Jimmy Page solo, but Plants vocals are unbelievable, and Bonhams performance on the drums is completely sublime. And then there's John Paul Jones. A lot of people miss his contribution in their compositions. I think this really shows off JPJ's complete skill as an artist of the highest order. Jimmy, Robert, and John, know they are painting on someone else's canvas, and they are only adding masterful highlights with the greatest respect for the work of art they get to add to. I'll leave a link below. Since I've Been Loving You ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1gHlbHtdVLU.html

I read Many coments about how good is the studio version and actually it is but whenever I feel like listening this másterpiece I always go back to this live version, just for that incredible live solo that Page pulled out right there at right moment, it is perfect,

The studio version of this song is an all-time great! Almost all of the people who told you to listen to the live version first heard this song on the studio version! There is much more emotional power from the studio version!
