Me too the first time she did that was like the 5 they we adopted her It was so scary I thought she was gonna die but she does it worse it's like asthma attacks...
7 years later and this video is still helping concerned dog owners. You have no idea how relieved I was. I thought I did something wrong as I had just exercised him.
If it happens again try holding one nostril and his mouth closed until it stops. That’s what works best for my dog! He has allergies and reverse sneezes more in the fall.
I had just exercised my dog as well, and I thought I got all the demons out, he stop speaking in tongues, but then he did this and I thought for sure the demon had come back. Thank God for this video.
Oh my god.. my dog was doing this when she woke up. I’m a first time dog owner. And I’ve never heard this. MY HEART DROPPED. I cannot thank you enough for this video
My dog woke me up at 3:37am doing this. I freaked out I thought he was gonna die. I’ve been up for almost two hours just watching him breathe in and out to make sure he keeps breathing. This video calmed me down A LOT. Thank you!
@@krchez I’ve been there before! It’s scary when you don’t know what’s happening. Usually with my dog I just give him gentle pats to calm him down, plugging one nostril for a few seconds until he swallows sometimes works too. It’s not nice to watch them go through though!
Thank you for posting this video. My 10 mth old started doing this last night and is still doing this at times. I didn't know what to call it or how to describe it and this video helped alot. This is exactly what he is doing.
Oh my goodness. I was about to fly to the vet so fast it’s 1am and my Shorkie is doing this and I thought she was struggling to breathe and about to drop dead! I have been recording her to show the vet and everything! Saved me a trip! Spring is beginning for us. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I was freaking out! She's my baby! I love her so much & this video confirmed & reduced me having a stroke. And yes I have had her to the vet for this. They cleaned her ear, ran tests & said she was healthy. This was during COVID when they come to car, got dog, take inside, come talk briefly, then bring her back. I was still uneasy but this video reassured me. Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking time to do this. You are amazing, an angel!
My maltese is literally the only loving one I have left in my life and she scared me half to death when she started doing this. Thank you so so so much for this video.
BRUH!!!! MY DOG IS 15 YEARS OLD AND SHE STARTED DOING THIS AND I DEADASS GOT SO SCARED. last thing I need is my dog dropping dead at 11 pm tf I'm gonna tell my mum wake her up like EY the old girl has karked it smh smh SO CHEERS FOR THE VID
saaaaaaaaaaaaame lol mine is almost 9 just called my vet and she suggested looking up videos on youtube about reverse sneezing. totally feel better now.
Lmao omg im so happy its reverse sneezing. Spent $196 at the er vet, glad they helped out but holy shit the visit fee these days are down right fucked up. I dont blame the vets tho, they do a great job, but i wish i knew about this reverse sneezing stuff.
I have been trying to explain this scenario to my vet for a few weeks. I so appreciate you posting this video so I can better represent what's happening! And, it makes me feel better too that it's very manageable.
you just made my day, i can not begin how happy i am to cross over your video, for weeks now we arenot sleeping and seeing doctors, having x rays, bloodworks, eko,ekg and no one could explained. thank you so so much
I seriously love reading these comments and seeing how much so many people worry for thier dogs! They're the absolute best! So thankful for this video. I suspected my dog was reverse sneezing and never bothered looking it but that's what it is!
Mine was a lot worse Like really loud. Poor boy was losing the power to stand and slipped onto his belly looking like he was choking by the sound Fucking terrifying. Good to know it's...not as bad as it sounds and not exactly harmful
Thank you! I've heard various dogs of mine do this occasionally but tonight my little girl made quite a show of it. First search results were heart cough and of course, I was terrified. Your clear description and the brave pooch's demonstration really helped us all free better.
This is a relief! It’s currently 3 am and my 13 year old dog just woke me up doing this. I’m super paranoid about anything because of his age. I had to research right away. Now I think I can go back to sleep and not worry. Thank you!
@@tonipentecost7868 my dog has just recently been diagnosed with kennel cough and I actually thought he was dying he also does this with it too. It’s very scary indeed. Hope your dog is better now
Thank you. So much. My dog has had a few of these fits in her life so far and every time I've just sat with her and pet her, finally looked it up and I'm so grateful you made this video.
My girlfriend's dog was having a reverse sneezing fit and we started to panic. When I looked it up, I immediately found your video and we were both very relieved. Thank you so much for posting this helpful video!
This was fantastic. Thank you so so much! My dog does this quite a lot & it's very intense & frightening. We've spoken to his vet about it but we weren't really given a straight answer to what it could be, apart from being assured that his lungs are perfect. It's brilliant to have a definitive answer now.
My dog did this, for the first time, last night. I was panicking and crying. It lasted about 1-2 minutes. I'm so relieved it wasn't something serious. She was back to her happy self afterward. Thank you for posting this video!
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this video!!! I've had my dog Maggie for about 7 months now and she was recovering from heartworms when I got her and I was SO worried that there was something really wrong with her! (even tho the vet said that's normal, I just thought the vet didn't really understand and I've been trying to catch her on video doing it so I can bring it in.) Anyways, I am so relieved now, Thank You! And btw you should have seen me in the vets office trying to mimic the reverse sneeze and make the noise, I'm sure they laughed at me hysterically when I left!
I haven't heard my dog do this in the 12 years he's been here, then suddenly tonight he woke me up to it! Thank you so much, was worried sick it was something bad, especially considering his age😭
This just saved my poor little heart. My dog did this and it freaked both her and I out. I had no idea what it was but somehow found this video and it made me feel so much more at ease. Thank you!!
Thank you so much for posting this! We have been freaking out and found that massaging our dog's phrenic nerve helped stop the episodes immediately. Hope that helps y'all too!
My dog has done this for over a year, and we had no idea that this was happening until I looked it up. I greatly appreciate your video. This has cleared a lot from my mind!
My 16 year-old Yorkie started doing this and this morning I took her to the vet. He says everything you're saying! Such a relief it's nothing to worry.
Thank you so much for posting this. My dog just all of a sudden went nuts doing this so I panicked and called the vet. They weren’t helpful at all and couldn’t get my pup in for days so I googled lol. This helped me feel sooo much better at knowing what it was! Again, thank you! :)
I always thought my lil girl was about to vomit so I'd scoop her up and run like a mad woman to the door. But then she'd be fine. Happens maybe once a month for a minute so I never thought to look into it
IRON1 thank you for that suggestion. I rubbed his throat gently, and he stopped almost immediately. He actually sneezed a min later and did that head spin shake thing and now he is settled
I rushed to my dog so fast just now hoping they were okay not knowing what to do. After the fit, they seemed fine but I wanted to do research to figure out what in the world that sound was. So many years later and your video is so incredibly helpful; I'm so glad I found it. Thank you, Dr. Johnson!!!!
Oh damn. I cannot tell how relieved I am seeing this. My rescue dog has been doing this more so often and I have been knocking door to door to understand what this was. Finally. TYSM
Thank you so much for this video!!! 🙏🏻 I was ready to go with my dog to the hospital at 2am, but because it looked like it was calming down I decided to do a little search on youtube
My chihuahua does this pretty regularly and more intense than the one in the video. She's recently started having them last for minutes. I thought it was anxiety or asthma. She does sneeze alot too. Thank you for posting! Very informative. I'll let the very know at her next check up.
Thank you so much, my dog started doing this so frequently and suddenly I thought he was chocking, it has subsided and is less frequent now. I was considering going to the emergency care, but he seems much better now and the frequency is getting much lower. I will consult with a vet if it persists tomorrow, I hope I find one open with the lockdown and social isolation measures still implemented in my country. Once again thank you, my panic has also subsided a lot.
I can’t thank you enough!!! I am with my 13 year old dog and he had started and it is sorta a off and on process when it happens but it eventually stops, I was so worried thank you for explain this the way you did! Awesome now I understand what is actually going on when this happens to him!
Thank you so much for this video. My dog just started doing this and I was grabbing everyone like quick we need to run him to the vets like NOW, but then he stopped, so I started googling, came across reverse sneezing, looked for a video to see if it was the same thing and found this. It has calmed me down and reassured me so much, thank you🖤
Thank you for posting this ..:: my GS has woken me up 2x now in the middle of the night doing this …. I was scared to death thinking he cld not breath …. They last soooo long and terrified me …….. it was so helpful to see your pup showing same symptoms of my baby …… I am so thankful and now so relieved …… but It still is a scary thing to witness :( But knowing it’s not as harmful as I let my mind think is very comforting to know he is not in pain or to much distress…. Thank you
thanks for posting this video it helped me a lot. my dog jack,a border collie aged 8 started doing this recently, it lasted about a month, worrying at first but after looking online and seeing this became less so.He has actually stopped now. I don't like to admit this, but it might help somebody else,i think our carpet was full of dust and after purchasing a new vacuum cleaner and using it every day the dog is fine.
im in a vet pima class at my high school and this was on one of our vocab lists, video was very helpful! thanks so much!! My dog also does this and we couldn’t understand why for the longest time.
Holy relief, it’s 3am and my 7 month old puppy just started doing this and I called an emergency vet and she suggested to look up this topic and your cid just helped calm my nerves almost instantly, thank you!
My pup started gasping for air last night and my husband and I were freaking out and calling the ER but apparently it was just doggie sniffles #NewParents
I have a 10 week old puppy and i was terrified when she started doing this. I immediately took her to the vet and the receptionist showed me this video. Thanks
My springer spaniel does this sometimes when she is excited or around new smells, I always thought reverse sneezing sounded like grunting so didn't even consider that was the cause! Thank you
Thank you 😊 my dog was just doing this. I just adopted him a week ago he's a 3 year old black male doberman and he's is the sweetest little cuddle bum ever!
OMG! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. My Maltipoo does this every once in awhile. I can hear my George make this sound from across the room. All I've ever known to do with him is hold him in my arms, talk softly to him, telling him, he's gonna be ok, and I'm here. Then wait for it to pass. He does have a variety of allergies. Most airborne ANYTHING will make him sneeze. Thank You again..Donna V. Saul-Thomas Turlock, Ca.
My dog has a cold right now and is sneezing constantly all day, and he’s been doing this “reverse sneeze” a lot more than he usually does. It was starting to really freak me out because it seemed like he couldn’t breathe, so thank you for this very reassuring video! 🙏🏻
Thank you so much for this video! I was thinking how am I going to look up “dog sniffing” without it showing the obvious lol reverse sneeze is a perfect explanation! I thought my dog was going to choke !
This is so helpful! We just got a rescue, it’s been about a week. And she did this twice. Thought she had asthma attack. But I’m happy to learn it can just be reverse sneeze. We have a visit to the vet this weds to ask more questions. Whew!
Dr Aimee! Thank you! My little beagle/Jack Russell goes through these fits twice a year: spring and autumn. Ive researched this a lot and your video was the most informative and helpful, yet. Thanks again, Dr Aimee!
So glad I came across this video notice my dog doing this and started panicking and researching glad there's an example and explanation! Thank you very much😅♥️
Oh my god, my dog started doing this and I thought she was having a bad reaction to the fleas we have, or the meds we’ve been using. I’m so glad I looked it up, I was so scared for her!
Dr. Johnson, thank you for this video. This is exactly what my dog has been experiencing past couple months. Yes, it is scary, along with a cough and hacking. Have spent over $1500.00 at two differnt vets and was planning on more next week at a 3rd one. Now, since I live in AZ where it is dry and dusty have a feeling this is exactly his issue. Thank you again.
My beagle has been doing this a lot lately it's scared the living hell out of me. I just got her to settle down. She and my little mini doxie are all I have and I very much need them both. So thank you so much for posting this video. 💜 calmed my anxiety down.
I know this video is a little older but oh my goodness ! I am so happy I stumbled across this. I’ve had my little 4 year old rescue pup for a little over a year now and when she does it, it’s loud and it’s scary I have cried several times because I thought she was having an emergency. She usually does it after she sneezes, or when the grass has been cut or when she goes into my roommates room which I’ll be honest is not very clean.(yuck ikr!) but I finally have an explanation and it’s really put my mind at ease. So thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge and informing myself and all the others.
not even joking i got so fucking scared for my dog it's not even funny when i think about it now as i know what it is....literally felt like my dog was going to collapse and leave me forever....almost felt like a member of my family is dying...
My dogs do this a lot and I didn’t know this was a actually thing. Thank you for the information! I will definitely know to not freak out when it happens again
Hi Doctor! thanks so much for such an excelent explanation!. I have a 9 years old cocker spaniel who actually started to do that sound ore often (usually i heard it before like 4 times in 9 years!!) and now is doint it every week... he gets scared a lot (and so I am) but it is something that i can do about it? THANKS A LOT!
I got several results for it when I searched, ranging from lung cancer to heart issues, which scared me quite a lot and then I see this. God it has been quite a relief!
