I would call Invicta a fashion watch. They're always making a current watch that's something trending regardless of who their copying or what big movie hit or big star is.

My invicta prodiver, all faux gold, looks very fashionable. A fashion watch is something you can call your own and match it with your unique "wardrobe" and other accessorie/jewelry. Fashion watches will generally be more exotic than an old round case stainless steel pulsar quartz

One of the best looking watches in my collection is a fashion dress watch: an Emporio Armani from 2003. It's sharp looking and the Miyota quartz hasn't failed all these decades. In my opinion, it is definitely superior to an MVMT.

I agree. I bought one, a tank style men's with a champagne dial back in 2000 while on a holiday in Venice and another for my wife in 2009 in Istanbul. Both are excellent and my wife actually stole the one I bought in Venice too! 23 years and 14 years respectively and both going great. My own watch tastes have changed over that time, but it doesn't change the fact that they're good quality. However when you compare to a lot of more trashy fashion watches like Daniel Wellington, MVMT and the dozens of other drop shipping nondescript brands produced in China where they just print whatever brand name you want on the dial, there is a difference. There are fashion watches and there are fashion watches!

Fashion watches make some of the best dress watches, I was looking one from watch brands and couldn't find anything as beautiful as a 60 dollars fashion watch, If I were to buy from a watch only brand that dial would cost me 5,000 dollars if not more.

Gucci is another one. The 25h series is awesome in my opinion. From the high end automatics to the ETA quartz models, they’re well made and finished. The coloured dials have painted glass which is unusual and produces nice visual effects. The sizes range from 30-38mm and are very unisex. I really like the gold and pink face 38mm quartz models and may buy one if I can get a good price. I accept that they cost more than they should because of the name, but a good price in watch collecting is always “what one is willing to pay.” I like these watches and consider them “real”. Outside the 25h watches, I don’t like the dress watches with bees or the weird divers. Those watches, I call fashion watches. Because… um… I don’t like them. 😂

If we keep the term "fashion watch" as a category in our hobby's parlance, might I suggest that a fashion watch is any watch where the visual or brand appeal as an accessory is paramount and little, if any, consideration is given to horological interest. This would exclude Cartier, Chopard and Bulgari from that category and there might be many other brands that sit on the fence. There might also be brands that start out as a "fashion brand" and over time move more into horological products as a strategy for market penetration. Chopard did this in reverse.

To me, a fashion watch is a watch that feels, subjectively, like the people who made it don't care that it has a functional component. A lot of fashion watches might as well not even have moving hands. A lot of people who buy them only want the hands to move because they'd be embarrassed to wear a watch that doesn't tell the time. Every "real" watch feels like it is both a thing that does something and a thing that looks a certain way, and the people who make them put effort into both domains.

Curious, what would you say about Tiffany watches? They seem to have a legit history, but now almost no-one talks about them. I personally find them interesting, some look similar to Cartier (which is not surprising, take into consideration very similar DNA and audience of the companies), but some are surprisingly fresh, like the East West

a fashion watch is a quartz watch or automatic watch generally worth hundreds of dollars based on its accepted value in the real world then you slap gucci on it and sell it for thousands vs cartier or hermes who make thousand dollar watches that are worth thousands of dollars wheather cartier is on it or seiko or omega or longines it’s worth its actual value for the most part with or without the specific brand name

I have a Tiffany & Co. Mark Coupe Resonator (tonneau case) and it is definitely a fashion watch-a fashion watch with a chronometer grade ETA movement and an amazing leather strap that smells like a luxury handbag. It has also garnered more comments and positive reaction from women than all of my other watches combined...and I have some really cool stuff.

"Fashion Watch" is to haute horology as Denny's is to fine dining. But, what Denny's does in its class is great...and what a Fashion watch can do in ITS class, can also be great. At the end of the day it's about value: what the consumer values. People vote with their dollars. As long as Fashion brands keep making a product that people spend money on, they will stay relevant and legitimate.

I would say fashion designers that are primarily in the clothing or accessories business like Gucci, LV, Armani etc... those are fashion watches. They have no long history of watchmaking. Cartier literally made one of the first wrist watches, so they are definitely not a fashion watch brand.

For me fashion watches are watches with no value (or the value is just in material, like gold etc), made just as a side dish of a company that has no focus on them, that are made from external companies and just used as money grabbers. I put in this category watches from the likes of Gucci, Armani, Maserati, Guess, most of the Hermes ones, Swarosky and so on...

I think we need to remove the term fashion watch from our lexicon. Movement, Daniel Wellington et al are for people that don’t give a crap and just sell/buy them as accessories. If a person pigeon holes Cartier as a fashion watch, isn’t a knowledgeable watch collector/enthusiast.

You can't name a watch brand as a "fashion watch brand" out of a one single watch. In fact watch brands just cannot be categorized like that period because most luxury brands have a very wide range of designs in their portfolio. That being said these are my personal characteristics of a luxury (fashion or not) watch. 1) Attainable at least by the top 20% citizens of the country where that particular watch is from 2) Advanced inner mechanics and innovative horological engineering 3) Those mechanics must benefit the end user period. Anything beyond that it's just a fares, a lie, a jewellery, a deception of a watch, a waste of money. You just can't categorize a watch as a fashion watch from external appearance because the design taste is very subjective.

The fashion watch category would include Daniel Wellington, MVMT, Michael Kors, Fossil, ie generally cheaply made, Ali Baba grade junk. Then we have jewellery brands that also have watches in their line-up. Those are sometimes heavily influenced by the jewellery making skills of that brand, to a degree where the jewellery part is taking over.

To me a fashion watch is anything wholly made by another company, with the fashion brand's name just slapped on it. So when I see watches from the like of Guess, Tommy Hilfiger, and on the women's side, Anne Klein, and Kate Spade, I think fashion watch. There's zero history, soul, or any certification or brand recognition for accurate time keeping for any of their models, ever produced. Not to mention, if there's an air of shameless product diversification or marketing stunt, that adds to the notion of it being a fashion watch because they are generally cheap Chinese made watches that cost less than $5 to produce, but are sold by the fashion houses for hundreds of dollars. Some even have fake features, like a chronograph looking watch, but the sub-dials do nothing and are purely cosmetic.

A fasion watch is simply a designer named watch thats not built to last more than a year or two on perpose. After that time its gone out of fasion and you need to buy a new one. Every watch nowadays is a fashion watch. No true functionality in real life anymore. It is a superfluous item. The fact that men would like jewelry is considered feminine in society therefore men build this world of marketing and tapping into the male ego by rebranding and trying to create a non jewelry category (tool watches, functional watches etc). So now they talk about it more than any woman talks about her jewelry. We collect jewelry, simple as that. Maybe it is for seeking confirmation, justification and hope to gain status and class. And maybe in hopes, the 'greater fool theory' does not hurt the investment. I collect happily but call it what it is...

IMO the difference between a fashion watch and a “real” watch is that a real watch was designed and built with respect to what matters in horology (accuracy, mechanical complexity, finishing, heritage) and a fashion watch merely exists to look a certain way. Is it designed to just go well with an outfit? Or is it a time telling instrument first and foremost?

Invicta makes fashion 58mm watches for six-foot six 350 pound gorillas. But they also make dress watches for men of normal size . You could probably call most Chinese watches fashing watches. You never know if it will work.
