What Is A NextBot? 

I juste realised a lesson in meme culture nextbot that would have this video as sounds would be perfection.

What makes Obunga so scary is the pure silence that comes from him. Every other nextbot plays some obnoxiously loud sound as it approaches, which mostly makes it less scary because you know exactly where it is. You have no idea where Obunga could be unless he is in your line of sight, which already means that you're most likely doomed. I can't believe a shitpost png bot is scarier than 99% of horror movies.

The sudden shock of seeing a nextbot around a corner is more terrifying than any jumpscare. You see it from the distance, you see it coming lightning fast, and all you can do is simply delaying the inevitable. Real chills

can we just apperciate the fact that being killed by a nextbot is more terrifying than opening gmod on june 3 ?

Honestly, the Gmod has the most satisfying ragdoll physics ever, especially when SMG4 used it for comedy.

Kinda disappointed that Rogurt wasn't mentioned here. He was by far the biggest influence for the revival of Nextbot content.

gmod is honestly one of my all time favourite childhood games and glad to see it get the spotlight again,its such a nostalgic game,this is made me cry rn

Are we going to ignore the original pioneer of this gamemode MsBreezy? She might not have been the first to explore these nextbots, but she certainly made it clear that running from memes was an artform to be expanded upon.

I already knew about nextbots long ago. Thanks to a youtuber named MsBreezy. It's nice to see it come back again, reminds me of my young self playing gmod for the purpose of nextbots and mazes .

Imma blame piemations for my discovery of nextbot. There was a girl named breezy that used to have complations running away from those damn things and it was downright hilarious every time.

I used to love Sanic Nextbot, it had theme music so you could hear it approaching, it might have lead to fewer jumpscares, but getting yourself into a dead end and hearing it coming closer, not knowing if you'll escape before it cuts you off is an experience

I'm really glad Nextbots have been more recognized. Back then when the Sanic was created, it was only few people who used them, most notably Breezy. I've done a lot of Nextbot runs with my friends, and it is an absolute blast.

As a GMOD animator and overall lifetime fan, I’m so happy to see the game getting the Limelight, even if it’s just temporary.

Can we just appreciate the fact that a g-mod mod that allows you to spawn in an entity in the form of a PNG to chase after you gained so much traction that it got turned into what looks like a high level horror game you would find on Steam, but on Roblox??

Kind of like the Shrek FPS mods from around ten years ago.

MsBreezy has been doing these vids for years, honestly she's a pillar of the genre.

i think something important to know is how the youtuber MsBreezy had part in popularizing this meme, making a very popular series of them and friends messing around with the nextbots

the fact you didn't talk about how (imo) MsBreezy popularized NextBots in general disappointed me

Nextbot is a pathfinding AI that can look for the best route in the map using the navmesh, this is why being chased by one is so intense! ;)

Im so sad that Breezy isn't even mentioned. She's one of the best Gmod RU-vidrs in my opinion

Haven't seen Rogurt anywhere in this video, I'm a bit dissapointed provided he probably has the best reactions because they are actually genuine and he also kinda brought back the whole thing

Another thing to note about the Nextbots is how it had a good history with G-Mod. A niche part of the gmod community had a soar in popularity when nextbots were around in about 2013-2015 (if I remember correctly). It soon died off but then it hitched back up a bit earlier from now when the RU-vidr known as Rogurt had his nextbot videos be recommended to many from the RU-vid algorithm, which I believe caused the giant surge in popularity relating to nextbots.

love that Nextbot's have also become a part of official videogames too, if you play with aracnophobia mode turned on in Satisfactory, it replaces their model with a Nextbot of a glitched out kitten

Surprised Breezy or Rogurt weren't mentioned considering the former made it popular a few years back and the latter seems to have been the cause of this revival.

The old gmod nostalgia hit’s different

The game "Death Forest" is pretty much a game with a nextbot and the monster from said game (Yoshie) is oftentimes used as a nextbot in Gmod which I find quite funny. (It's the Japanese girl with a super white face and bloody teeth, search her up and you'll probably recognise it)

As a Garry's Mod player, the constant references to it simultaneously make me happy that one of my favourite games is being referenced, but also annoyed that the only thing being referenced are those stupid spammy copy+paste nextbot addons

Starting the "It Followed Us" clip around 0:04 Makes the creature a lot more terrifying. Some fear of the unknown stuff! Seeing less of the monster = scarier.

There's also the fact that the people making videos have parkour-based add-ons, making their movements feel smooth and cool to look at, in stark contrast to the rough yet terrifying nextbots that also contrastingly have meme-y imagery.

nextbot creepyness is also heavily lifted by the source engine aesthetic, that for some reason has this weird ominous feel, it's something that gets talked about often and it really helps the scares

I think what makes Nextbots so scary is the idea that there is no solution. There is no counter or weakness. When you look at a story like IT or Alien or whatever you can always imagine yourself prevailing over the horrifying situation, even if the odds of that would be next to impossible. And survival horror in games almost always has you defeating or escaping the threat, even if only for a moment. Whereas Nextbots are unfathomably dangerous as there is no recourse, no respite, and no escape. You are just in a state of constant tension and panic as you try to run knowing you are buying yourself minutes of life at best. If fear is the absence of hope, Nextbots are the most frightening thing ever because there IS no hope.

i feel bad for anyone who didnt watch old nextbot videos, with vanoss, venturiantale and other youtubers, it was just funny to watch them run around as they got mercilessly chased by a png of sanic,

I remember the sanic nextbot so fondly, those things still give me adrenaline rushes to this day

Part of me feels sad about how nextbots became such a meme. Some actually impressive stuff can be done with them when someone skilled actually puts in some effort.

There are many ways to survive nextbots. (Excluding addons) - Giving yourself a god mode - Spamming net fences - Building a bariccade (there are some that don't get destroyed from nextbots) - Circling around them - Running away and throwing things at them with gravity gun alt-fire - Straight up deleting them - Spawning a high amount of npcs constantly - and many more.

the best part of all of this is the fact that nextbot is the same technology used for Valve's official bots in games like Counter-Strike: GO and Team Fortress 2.

Dude, Gmod was my childhood. Its so crazy to see it in a resurgence from nextbots of all things, yet it also makes sense given how memey they were to begin with.

There was channel I watched years ago called Kuledud3 that did this kind of stuff. It was the funniest shit and it made me love Gmod so much more. I wonder what happened to that channel as I can never find it again.

I’m so happy that nextbot chases are finally getting attention from non gmod channels. They really are terrifying to watch and even give me a jump compared to other horror shows and games. Obunga is easily the most terrifying nextbot I’ve seen so far. He’s silent which only amps up the scariness more because you never see him coming only until it’s too late. And he ALWAYS knows where the player is. My experiences playing around with obunga on big gmod maps like gm_bigcity and gm_fork really cement this. The player could be on the highest possible location and obunga will still find a way to get to the player.

It's funny... I remember back in my Counter Strike days, there was a custom map I played on called Blahhh or something like that. It was a very surreal place full of secret passages where every single room was some different, bizarre locale - such as an eerie art museum leading into canyon warzone under a bright sky, which leads into a pathway in a desolate woods at night, which leads into a spherical room where the walls are made of brain-meat, and then a long hallway which leads to the Diner at the End of the Universe from the Hitchhiker's Guide series. There was an early version of these on there - some kind of three-eyed alien skull thing that was just a large, flat texture that would speed through the map and cross paths with you when you least expect it. It didn't do any damage from what I remember, but for some reason that thing horrified me as a kid lol. Glad to see I wasn't the only one
