What is a Non-Captive Linear Actuator? Watch this video from AMETEK Haydon Kerk Pittman to find out.
This is a non-captive actuator motor. It has a leadscrew going through the motor and has no reasonable stroke limits but must be attached to an assembly that will not rotate. This will then allow the leadscrew to extend and retract without rotating. The screw travels freely in and out of motor body. On certain set-ups, the motor body may serve as the drive and the “nut”. The anti-rotation is by the attachment point that is commonly a cut or machined thread on the end of the screw. The non-captive is potentially the shortest overall length assembly.
