Matt I’m a S&C coach who works with footballers I’ve been following you for a while now and I gotta say that is some solid insight for what a footballer should focus on. Coming from you, a pro footballer, your words will echo much further in the footballing community. Keep doing your thing and crush this season 👊🏼⚽️ Coach Abe
Great video!!!! Could you make a quick video on hip flexors? Such a important muscle, which seems to be overlooked on youtube, but you can clearly see nearly every professional football trains them.
What’s up bro. A really simple thing is stepping on a resistance band and explosively driving the knee up. Also balance exercises on one leg where you drive the knee up and stabilize train the hip flexors as well. Very simple stuff that will for sure help you
Quality as usual, whenever this guy sits and starts to speak about his perspective/experience or his research then it's always invaluable stuff. just love the fact that how professional this guy is on and off the field. Learned a lot from Matt and will keep taking the positives . Peace.
I really respect the fact that you put the time that you start talking about the title question at the start. I mean, I watched the whole video, but it’s cool that you give that option.
I don't really think you can have a "soccer-specific gym session". you can do a session to improve your speed, strength, and conditioning but I don't think there are sessions to "improve football ability" specifically
It is a good point, but it is also arguing semantics. He is trying to get views, but he is also trying to point out the differences in workouts depending on goals.
Oh man! This is the life! And thanks for the advice on soccer specific workouts and non-that I honestly think that I've been doing really good on which kind of workouts are the most beneficial to my game and dive into those so this vid really has encouraged me to keep training right A bit of a challenge that I'm faced with is the kind of mentality getting up to higher level teams which can help tremendously sustain at that level Thanks so much for putting up great content and I'll keep watching your amazing journey while I walk mine too✌
Lol 😂 You might not believe this but I did All of your Germany workouts and all of those workouts you were putting when you came back from Germany. when you were trying out overseas . You motivated me to become a tough athlete because I was doing what you were doing. And I severely got injured because I was doing what you were doing and man them workouts you have are no joke… please don’t take them out but advise how hard it is because I never did injury prevention. But I’m glad you are speaking about it. As a professional you have given great advice.
Awesome video, great advice for gym training. Also I know you enjoy eating healthy and living a healthy lifestyle, you should consider watching a documentary like the game changers, which looks at diet in athletes, or What The Health which talks about the food we consume. Keep up the great work Matt!
Day 1 of 2 days Full body: Upright row x face pulls} 3x10 Biceps curls x shrugs} 3x10, 20 Bench press x sa shoulder press} 4x6-8, 3x10 Inverted bd rows 5 min or 4x10 Squats 3x6-8 Is it OK???
Thanks for yet another great video. I have a question: I ruptured my achilles in early February playing football - I am currently 3 months post-op and have been spending countless hours in the gym biking and doing both core and achilles work but also aestethically strength training. This is due to me not being cleared to jog or do anything football related yet. Do you think this is gonna slow me down once I return to football again?
The fact that this guy works so hard and is not even at the mls level says a lot! Like if you’re not working harder than him good luck getting anywhere (no disrespect btw!). The difficulty for making it as a professional in the u.s is getter higher and higher which makes no sense considering our league is crap compared to others (once again no disrespect). Like for nfl and nba they get drafts and all that so it makes it easier for them to get drafted compared to football you either get scouted or you don’t it’s tough man. I’m not here to bring down your hopes I’m just bringing in reality because if you hope for the best then the worst will hit even harder. So work hard y’all do your best!
You have such a great professionalism that brought you to the top level. Keep your great routines and being the person you are. Success was not a secret for you. You earned and work for it💪
Hey Matt I'm a about to turn 18 brazilian and with no club yet(not part of a professional team). Since I saw that a lot of american pro clubs are more used to have older players in their youth teams like U19, U23(unlike Brazil) I've been planning on doing volunteer work in the USA so I get a chance to live there with no much cost (still earning some money) and try my chance in some american club or college. I'm hoping to have a free soccer field or anything where I can train and workout meanwhile I still have no team. I'd like to know your opinion about it. You, as a professional soccer player in US, do you think it's worth for me to leave my country and try my best in a foreign territory where the football isn't soooo popular as in other countries(giving that I have a certain financial condition to that)? Is it easy to find a place to train? Plus, I have Boston and San Diego in mind, since I found the best volunteer job opportunities in these places. What do you say? Greetings from Brazil
Hey bro I don’t usual watch your videos, so I’m just asking do you take a 30 - 40min nap everyday? What’s the reason you do it? So far I’m finding your videos real helpful so keep it up cheers bro
Bro bro bro I was making the same mistake I'm 14 now and after this clip I'm changing my working method completely thanks mate you will see me one day Georgi Tomov
But here is the question; If i go to the gym i will be a little sore for the next 1 or 2 days how am i going to football training or match with sore chest or back. I m not saying that because i want to exercise like a bodybuilder in the gym but what if i want to grow some muscles?
