Hi, I worked for Cerner in the past but I am trying to get in the door with Epic. I have my Masters in IT with a concentration in Health Informatics. What would you suggest as the best route to start a career with Epic?
Hi @Khameleon1911, If I were in your shoes I would first try to get some hands on experience with Epic first, even if it's not directly. Majority of health systems are looking for people that have already worked with Epic before. Having a Masters in IT with a concentration in Health Informatics can give you an advantage at getting a career relating to health data analytics since I'm sure you have some SQL experience. These positions often work alongside Epic analysts to get their data and you could potentially transfer to the Epic team based on your connections. I've seem a coworker transfer to the Epic radiology team from a PACS admin role. @@Khameleon1911 The company that initially certified me was Atos-Syntel. Although they only certified me in one module (Radiant). Johns Hopkins was the one that certified me on my second certification (Cupid).
Hey there, Generally you do if you want to get certified but you could get lucky and find an organization that is willing to certify remote workers. It used to be easier during the pandemic.
Hi there, when you got sponsored for Radiant and Cupid, did you need to go to their campus in Wisconsin to complete an in-person training 6-8 weeks before taking the certification exam? Just read something about that, so I'm curious if that's the only way on getting trained and certified. Thank you
Hi @JoAnnWren, I didn’t have to go for when I got sponsored for Radiant because of the pandemic. I did go to Wisconsin when I got sponsored for my Cupid certification. Yes, currently that is the only way to become a certified analyst. Although, you don’t need to be sponsored to become an Epic credentialed trainer.
@ourepicjourney Oh, okay. I have my interview tomorrow for the Epic associate role and am praying to get this opportunity. My long-term career aspirations are to getting certified for one or more modules in the near future, so I'm really hoping if given this opportunity that through my dedication that they'll sponsor me for the certification(s) along my journey. Training is something I like doing, but want to move up so getting sponsored for EPIC modules is something I really hope to obtain. I'm really nervous but feel this is the next step considering I have no degree. Thank you for your input, I truly appreciate it.
@ourepicjourney By the way congrats on getting certified for 2 modules. Those are the ones I'd like to obtain as well, currently in Radiology and have end user experience so hoping to start w that.
Hey there! There are some entry-level openings that are willing to certify new analysts but you will need to get hired first. Try searching for Epic analyst job posts that mention that they are certifying individuals within a specific amount of time. If you currently work at a Healthcare organization that uses Epic then you can ask your manager for permission to get a Self-Study Proficiency.
hi there I would like to work as an epic analyst how I can start currently I working in a hospital but not using epic . Do I need to contact employee relationship to let them know for training or else should I contact epic analyst working in my hospital on linkedin
Hi Arvin, You would first need to start working at a hospital that is currently using Epic. This will give you an idea on how the EHR works. Once you have some experience working at a hospital using Epic then you may start using the userweb website provided by Epic to start learning what specific application you may be interested in. There are lots that you can choose from so whenever choosing a job at a hospital make sure it’s in a department that you would enjoy working at.
