Great first reaction, welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊There is no other band quite like BABYMETAL, they formed as a sub-unit of a JPop Idol group in 2010 when they were aged 12 and 11, pioneered their own metal sub-genre and have gone on to become Japan's biggest musical export. They are both original and unique. They have about 70 songs now, each one different to the last, the mix and blend all sorts of musical styles and genres with the metal and they don't just stick to one metal genre either (so this is one of just a handful of power metal songs they have). BABYMETAL are Su-metal (lead vocals & dance), Moametal and Momometal (official title scream & dance but really backing vocals, harmonies and leading the audience, getting everybody involved and joining in with their interpretive choreo). Su and Moa were founding members, the third original girl was Yuimetal. She last appeared in October 2017 but had (undisclosed) health issues and announced she was still not fully recovered and had decided to leave to follow her own dreams 12 months later in October 2018. Su and Moa continued as a duo for 4 or 5 years supported from 2019 by 3 dancers (the Avengers) who would take turns dancing, but not singing, in the third spot. From about March 2020 there was just one Avenger left - Momoko. On 1st April 2023 Momoko was finally revealed as the third official member of BABYMETAL (Momometal) and got her microphone ... this video was filmed on 2nd April - her first concert and their first as a trio. Sounds like DragonForce you say? No coincidence - Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce did the guitar arrangements for this song (it is the only one they were involved in) and recorded the guitars for the album version. They have said they made this more technical and faster than most of their own songs thinking they would never have to play it live ... and that they had to practice hard when they did perform it with BABYMETAL at an awards show in London later in 2015. The guys in the masks supporting BABYMETAL are the Kami Band. There are basically two Kami Bands - East and West. The East Kami Band are the very best Japanese session musicians to be found and they first appeared in 2012, became the full time support for all live shows from early 2014. They do swap in and out depending on their availability, but the same hard core of about 6 musicians played the vast majority of concerts from 2013. The West Kami Band, who were in this video, are Americans - guitarists Chris Kelly and CJ Masciantonio, Clint Tustin on bass and Anthony Barone on drums. They first appeared in 2019 to support BABYMETAL in the lengthier foreign tours and have been the main support since these concerts on 1st and 2nd April 2023. The Walls of Death, circle pits and singing along are all part of the song and the performance .... they even happened when they debuted the song in Brixton, London in December 2014 - and nobody had heard it before, it was just a brand new song nobody had been expecting - nobody even knew what it was called. About the song itself - 'Road of Resistance' is a very positive song, it isn't the usual "resist the machine or the system etc" that we might expect from the title. It is about forging your own road even where a road doesn't already exist, not necessarily going the easy way or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way. It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band, they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy road to follow. I'm sure you will get a lot of great suggestions for more songs. Pick anything, you can't really go wrong. The official videos are all very good and worth seeing, but BABYMETAL are one of the very best live acts on the planet - live is where you will see and hear them at their best every time.

Nice, welcome to Babymetal. The "Dragonforce" sound is accurate, especially since Herman Li and Sam Totman of Dragonforce co-wrote guitars, and played on the studio version of this track. This song has been Babymetal' signature show closer for almost a decade now (although not at this particular how). Look forward to more! 🤘🦊

Circle pits and walls of death are a staple part of the live Babymetal experience. I was at this concert jumping up and down, singing (badly), fist pumping and waving like a maniac. Every Babymetal song has it's own unique choreographed dance routine that they perform as part of it. The masked musicians are the called the Kami Band (God/Spirit Band). There are actually two Kami Bands, one made up of Japanese musicians, known as the Kami Band of the East, and one made up of American musicians, known as the Kami Band of the West. This performance featured the Kami Band of the West, so the musicians were - Chris Kelly (guitars), CJ Masciantonio (guitars), Clint Tustin (bass), and Anthony Barone (drums). The reason it sounds so much like Dragonforce is that the guitar parts for it were written by Herman Li and Sam Totman of Dragonforce. Herman said that when they wrote it they went a bit crazy with it because they didn't think they'd ever have to perform it live. The joke was on them because a few years later they ended up performing it with Babymetal at the Metal Hammer Awards 2015 (that video is on youtube if you are interested). Some people get mad about Babymetal being called anime rock, but it's just that when you've only experienced Japanese song writing from anime, you are hearing familiar chord progressions and sctructures that are common in Japanese songwriting, so you inevitably associate it with anime. Oddly enough, Babymetal has never done an anime soundtrack, and they rarely license their music for use in other media.

Welcome to Babymetal. They bring joy and innovation to the masses with a robust and diverse catalogue with awesome live performances and some fun official music videos. Obviously, as they are Japanese, most of their songs are in Japanese but many have English components and they have a few songs fully sung in English. Every song is unique and the band and crowd give it their all! This is an older song performed quite recently at the amazing PIA concert. As you’ve noted, Monochrome is another great performance from this concert (and is a fairly recent song). They also have some great collaborations, including Kingslayer with Bring me the Horizon, Leave It All Behind with two Thai artists (F. Hero and Bodyslam), Papaya, also with F. Hero, and Metali featuring Tom Morello. Hope you dig in and explore more Babymetal - you won’t be disappointed. If you want more background there are a few “guide to Babymetal” videos around - I like the one by Omagination as it’s fun, short, and has some good listening recommendations if you’re new. Enjoy! 🦊🤘🤘🦊🔥🔥🔥

Awesome, hope you react to more of Babymetal as their style is very flexible within metal. And remember: live is best! Their bread and butter are the live stage performances rather than the album releases.

Love getting to watch new fans discover Babymetal for the first time, great reaction and thanks! There will be tons of suggestions, go for them, but also if you randomly pick almost anything of them live (that isn't like fancam compilation or something) it will be fantastic, new, and different. Look forward to more!

Great reaction! 😄 The initial "Mosh pit" was a "Wall of Death" followed by a "Circle pit"🤣 It´s a given for every time BABYMETAL performs "Road of Resistance", and yes, the Japanese crowds are the greatest, they are legendary! Other crowds are only a tiny bit behind them, tho 😉 You could see it in Queen Su-Metal´s face that she was very pleased with the crowd at that concert! Their current costumes are beautiful, aren´t they? Did you watch the choreography? Watch it more closely, it tells a story 😄 The dancers are Moametal (the beauty with dimples when she smiles) and Momometal (another beauty, she smiles all the time and can´t help it!), both very good singers, too! You´ll hear them doing backing vocals and harmonies most of the time, but they had some (half) solo songs, too! Yes, heavy Dragonforce influence. Powermetal. Sam Totman and Herman Li from Dragonforce had QUITE some influence on this song and played it themselves live back in 2015 😉 The BABYMETAL band performs that song flawlessly, nonetheless 😉 These musicians are called "Kami Band" (West), session musicians, all 4 from the US, who are some of the best musicians you´ll find on this planet. They always wear masks these days. If you see the musicians with corpse paint at some point in time, these are the "Kami Band" (East), all four musicians being Japanese and also some of the best musicians you´ll find on the planet. I second the recommendation of your first commentor, do "Headbangerrrrr!!!!" next, please! If you want to hear the Kami Band (East), take the "BABYMETAL - Headbanger Live @ Legend 1997 Apocalypse" version (it´s a GREAT one, btw.!). There you´ll get to learn about "Yuimetal" (former member, until 2018, her spot was taken by Momometal in April 2023), too.

@@Bruce_Reacts You´re welcome! 🙂 I could cover just a TINY bit of BABYMETAL history and inner workings, they are like nothing you ever experienced! They have a RICH history (reaching back to 2010, when Su-Metal was almost 13 years old, Yuimetal and Moametal were 11 years old. Yes, they were THAT young when it all started!). I´m sure other BABYMETAL fans (called "THE ONE" as a fan collective) will chime in here soon and give you even more information about BABYMETAL. Don´t hesitate to ask, THE ONE will answer your questions! Regarding the choreography, it supports the understanding of the (mostly Japanese) lyrics. I´m quite sure you´ll do more reactions to them, obviously you liked "Road of Resistance", and you´ll like "Headbangerrrrr!!!!" for sure, too 😉

Great reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL. Well, at this point you already have a ton of great info, so I'm not repeating the same. But I wanted to remark that they are better live (this was an excellent video to start with, btw), for many reasons: Su-metal's live vocals, the choreo (different for each song), their live band (Kami Band), the stage setups, lights and lasers shows, the way they control crowds, etc. Also they are very diverse musically since they don't hesitate on mixing any music genre with metal (any subgenre). So, always expect the unexpected. 😁 Enjoy your BABYMETAL journey. 🤘🦊

Welcome to the Foxhole and the wonderful world of happy metal that is BABYMETAL! 🤘🦊🤘 Most of the truly important information has been or will be given in other comments, so I like to give the fun titles and nicknames given by The ONE (Babymetal’s Fan-base) as well as other (un)important information. BABYMETAL started as an experimental sub-unit of the larger JPop/JRock group Sakura Gakuin. Babymetal are: Suzuka Nakamoto\Su-Metal (Vocals and Dance): Angel of Song, Queen Su, Queen of Kawaii, Metal Queen, and Metal Goddess. Before Sakura Gakuin, she performed in a stage production of "The Adventurers" and was a member of the JPop trio, Karen Girls. Fun Fact: Bullfrogs are her Kryptonite Yui Mizuno\Yuimetal (Scream and Dance) Left the group in 2018 due to undisclosed health issues: Angel of Dance, Princess Yui, Yui-bot, Tomato Princess, Tomato-Kun, Kawaii Princess and Devourer of Souls (or at least she stares into your soul). Yui had a minor role as a child actor in a Japanese TV Drama before joining Sakura Gakuin. She has cute, chubby cheeks. Fun Fact: Yui is tickled by Bullfrogs. ** WARNING ** Do NOT, ever, under any circumstances call her “small”, "smol", “short” or “tiny” (same rule applies to Moametal). Moa Kikuchi\Moametal (Scream and Dance): Angel of Love\Smile, Queen of Hearts, Princess Moa, Kawaii Princess, Super Moa-chan, Maiden of Mischief, and Headmistress of Hedabon. She has huge dimples and a smile that melts the hardest of hearts. Fun Fact: Loves to troll Su-metal on-stage with little pranks as well as torment Su-metal with Bullfrogs. Momoko Okazaki\Momometal (Scream and Dance): Angel of Joy, Kawaii Princess, Princess Peach, Momo-Monster, Vampire Slayer, Kabuki Queen. Also a Sakura Gakuin graduate. Was a contestant on the Korean reality survival program "Girls Planet 999" (which thankfully for The ONE, she was eliminated from early on) and performed in a stage musical production of "Black Butler". Momoko was the only “Avenger” (see below) to perform in the “10 BABYMETAL Budokan” shows in 2021 and was officially named Momometal and made a permanent member in April 2023. She deserves the spot! Fun Fact: Momoko's father is a popular comedian in Japan known for making dead-pan jokes. Momoko worked very hard to make her way without using his name as a crutch. BLACK BABYMETAL: Yuimetal and Moametal performing as a duet while Su-metal takes a breather. Also known as “MoiMoi”. There are 4 BBM songs (GJ!, Onedari Daiskusen, 4 No Uta\Song 4, and Sis. Anger) some of which Moametal performed solo a few times after Yui's departure. Now that Momometal is a member, we are hoping for more BBM songs with MoMoa! But only the Fox God knows. AVENGERS: 3 Dancers who took turns performing the choreography in Yuimetal’s spot after her departure. They were not official members did not have microphones and were not even named. It was the fans who figured out who they were and you will see them in live performances between 2018 and 2021. They were: Momoko Okazaki (see above). Riho Sayashi: Suzuka’s former rival at Actors School Hiroshima, often competing for the same roles. Former “Ultimate Ace” of the JPop Idol group Morning Musume. Now a solo artist. Kano Fujihara: Former Member of Sakura Gakuin, the school-aged Idol group that BABYMETAL was born out of. Like Suzuka and Moa before her, Kano was Student Council President her last year in Sakura Gakuin and like Yui, was considered arguably the best dancer in SG during her time there. She is now a member of the Idol group @onefive, which is comprised of 4 Sakura Gakuin graduates (Kano, Momo, Soyo and Gumi). Kano only performed with BABYMETAL in Japan as she could not travel, likely due to her commitments to Sakura Gakuin and the then developing @onefive. We are #notacult. Kitsune Da O! 🤘🦊🤘

Great first reaction! 🤘🦊🤘 Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance!!! BABYMETAL is a Japanese kawaii (cute) metal group (a metal subgenre that they created) that formed in 2010 when the original 3 girls (Yui left due to health issues) were 11-12 years old (yes, they were very young), and since then have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Download, Sonisphere, Glastonbury, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. They have 60+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too. Also, they released a new amazing album last year and they just finished a world tour where they had many shows here in the US. They also recently released a new music video for their song called "Metali" that features Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello. And on May 23rd they have a new song coming out that is a collab with Electric Callboy. 🤘🦊🤘

Babymetal is a Japanese kawaii metal band consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal", Moa Kikuchi as "Moametal" and Momoko Okazaki as "Momometal". The band is produced by Kobametal from the Amuse talent agency. Their vocals are backed by heavy metal instrumentation, performed by a group of session musicians known as the "Kami Band" at performances. The band was formed in 2010, with the original lineup of Su-metal (vocal and dance), Moametal (scream and dance), and Yui Mizuno as "Yuimetal" (scream and dance), with the concept of creating a fusion of the heavy metal and Japanese idol genres. Originally a sub-unit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin, Babymetal became an independent act in 2013, following Nakamoto's departure from Sakura Gakuin. Babymetal have released four studio albums since their inception: the first, Babymetal, came out in February 2014. Their second album Metal Resistance was released in April 2016. The group released their third album Metal Galaxy in October 2019. Their fourth album, The Other One, was released in March 2023. Babymetal has embarked on several tours, with a majority of their tour dates taking place outside of Asia in both the USA an Europe. In October 2018, Babymetal announced that Yui Mizuno had decided to leave the band due to poor health, following her absence from live performances since December 2017. After her departure, the band performed with one or more backup dancers known as the “avengers” at live performances. One of those dancers, Momoko Okazaki (a former member of Sakura Gakuin), joined Babymetal as the third core member in April 2023, under the stage name Momometal. Dragon Force Herman Lei did the guitar arrangements and I believe played on this track on the album version. Welcome to the world of Babymetal, they metal with various other genres and are massively popular with major artists and fans alike. They have played at some huge venues (Tokyo dome, 55,000, Wembley arena and Glastonbury). There latest track is Ratatata a collaboration with Electric Callboy a German metal group and it’s brilliant. ONLY THE FOX GOD KNOWS what they will do next !!!

That was a great reaction for an intro to Babymetal. Two things. Babymetal have been around since 2010-they were kids then. They've created their own genre of metal called Kawaii or cute/idol metal. It's always a blast seeing a "first timer" experience Babymetal. They are like no other band on Earth and among other things are legendary for their live performances. Big time crowd interaction are one of the signature parts of their performances. Starting out I'd recommend do some more of their more recent material. Anything from the LIve at PIA Arena two night concerts you can't go wrong with. Get to experience where they are now and I think you'll better appreciate how amazing their musical journey has been from when they were so much younger.

Agreed, definitely check out The One. Also I think their latest album (The Other One) has the most English on it so far. And a lot of the collabs they released this year have Su singing in both Japanese and English.

Welcome to the fox hole, they are amazing and always best live, Herman and Sam from Dragonforce wrote the guitar parts for this track back in 2013/2014. They started as little kids in 2010 as a virtually un funded sub group of a Japanese idol group as a producers idea to mix J-pop and metal and they have just made it work and through there own hard work have gained world wide success and acclaim. 🤘🤘🤘🦊🦊🦊

Welcome to the Fox Hole 🦊 While you're exploring, a few words of advice. When possible, find a live performance to react to. Expect the unexpected; they experiment with different genres a Lot. My favorite live is Catch Me If You Can. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ugnyM69LN54.html
