Hi, I’m thinking on doing the program 09M. I’m just scared that I have to pick the job now with low scores (26). Can I do the program without signing anything?

I went to the 09m program And if you study every you will passed I went to 28 to 71 and I got 68W. The only con is there is not many Mos available and basically they will give 88M,31B or 11B.I just got lucky that 68w was open and I was the only who got that job.
Been there and done that 3 months ago. You'll be going through reception twice most likely. You have the O9M reception and you have the BCT reception. I went from Jackson to a different base and I'm currently doing BCT about to be in white phase (it's pretty damn fun! It's just the people you're around in your bay that makes it shitty sometimes). When you pass and you get your certificate for passing the school your drills will tell you to rip that shit up and throw it away cause they'll tell you that you shoulda studied in the first place and that you will get laughed at if it's seen framed on a wall. When you get your blue book there will be locations on one of the pages including where you will possibly be sent for BCT depending on your MOS. If you're worried about being open contract because you went O9M (like I was) they will let you pick your job so don't worry! They will give you a list of jobs to choose from that you qualify for and that's available at the moment. They base it HEAVILY off your OPAT scores that you did with your recruiter (shuttle run, ball throw, dead lift, (that stuff)). If you have your mind set on a job set your hopes low. I had my mind set on a job but it wasn't available SO HAVE OTHER OPTIONS IN MIND!! In the end I ended up getting a different one in the same field that I'm very excited with that offers A LOT of certifications for the transfer back to the civilian world (that is if I don't re up). Some jobs will make you take a DLAB which is just extra testing for that MOS before you can sign to it. IF you don't get the job that you want you have 2 options. You can either refract from the Army which means to basically not sign the contract with the list of MOS's they present to you and just go home with no job and as if you were never there or just go home and just wait for it to become available. No you wont get a dishonorable or any shit like that. You signed an O9M contract for 90 days so once you complete the school you've done what you were there for meaning the ball is in your court. They put the contract length for 90 days because you have 3 chances to pass it or you will be sent home. Study up and pass it the first time. In case you do fail just know that everyone there including your buddies will know. People that failed formed up to the right in a PT pit and the others that passed went to the left. The people that were my left and right bunk neighbors (both bottom bunk actually) ended up failing. I was one of the last people to be called to be told if I passed or failed so you can probably imagine the anxiety from that.. What the recruiter wont tell you is that you have the possibility of becoming a hold over which means that something either went wrong on your end or it's just bad timing. There were people at jackson who were there for a month or 2 waiting for a cycle to start for either schooling or the weight loss program. If you are a shit bag they will hold you. Don't think they wont. Stay on your toes and your head down and don't let the people you live with get to you. Fun fact: When you go to 09M (FOR THE ASVAB) they aren't supposed to smoke you BUT if you fuck up SEVERLY and you just piss them off and you're behind closed doors they will say fuck it and make you do a plank in the front leaning rest position. This happened to our bay once because we were in the bay (the worst place to be a shit bag around a DS) about to go to sleep doing our count and people were arguing with each other and we did a plank for about 5 minutes. They are told by their commander that they weren't allowed to smoke us since we aren't in that type of environment yet. Yes, you will be doing PT while there plus your morning PRT which is just basic exercises that aren't meant for you to break a sweat. It's just a warm up for morning PT. Instead of "corrective training" they will however take your phone time away (trust me on that). Our DS once told us to do pushups and yell "NEED MORE.. DISCIPLINE" to scare the bay upstairs when we were doing our nightly count before lights out as a joke. We accomplished that. They can get serious and yell when need be but it's mostly just smoking and joking if you do right by them as a company or a platoon on a smaller scale. They only took phone time away from the whole company like once because of an altercation that happened in formation of all places... You will have some bad ass drills there. A lot of them were mountain and they might even teach you how to tie knots. I had a cav scout as a DS that would say the most random shit that we couldn't help but laugh at. PS... Do your fireguard shifts and don't be that guy who doesn't wake up and doesn't relieve the previous shift on fireguard... It will force them to pick up your shift and do an hour extra of fireguard. Swartz if I'm wrong about any of this please correct me. I'm just going by my expereince/choices and those of others that I lived with for 3 weeks to a month.

@@charliezarco Theres too many jobs in the army to just get stuck with one unless you did bad on your OPAT and you do bad in school. There were some people who got stuck with like 1 to 2 jobs or no jobs at all and had to get a waiver to even be apart of that MOS because they scored low as fuck and didn't pay attention in school. I qualified for every combat job, pharmacist, a camera man, and signal operations plus more that weren't open atm. I was scared of the same thing TRUST ME. Just have faith in yourself, do good in school, and everything will turn out in your favor.

how often are cat 4 options available ?? i recently got a 17 on asvab it was my 4th time taking it 🤦🏻♂️. but is it a possibility i would join as a cat 4 option ?
National Guard closer CAT4 Option until further notice and told to leverage the 09M Option. If it’s at all available for the active duty/reserve, they’ll let you know?
What if I am heavily tattooed because it is my occupation and part of my religious beliefs, can I get the tattoos wavered? (They are on neck, hands and one on the back of the head. I am slav pagan.)

Hello went to meps took asvab for 2nd time both times I got a 23 with good line scores trying to join the NG wanted to join with cat4 option I go for a physical Oct 13. Recruiter told me he will add me to the list after physical. When does this program open up? Thank you

@@mvp-carried371 Not sure if you’re aware of this but the four English/Math sections on the test are based on 10th grade level knowledge… let that sink in. Glad you increased your scores and were afforded the opportunity to be able to join and serve. Otherwise, people would’ve had to study on their own time and hope n pray they pass. Or not join at all.

I don't know why you'd want to because you aren't gonna be able to wear them. It's just extra weight and they'll make you throw them in a personal bag and lock them up. When you get to the school they will make you wear the same boots as everyone else. When you get to BCT however you will have the chance to go on what's called a "boot profile." This is meant for people whose feet are getting blisters and "hurting." There are people walking around with fucking Oakleys and Nike boots in red phase I shit you not. Before we went on holiday leave from red phase (BCT) our 1SG told us that we could buy our own boots as long as it abided by AR 670-1 which is basically just apperance standards and regulations. You wear what everyone else is wearing. If one person forgets their fleece cap in the bay during the winter then the whole company wears the patrol cap. Same with gloves. You will never be allowed to act as an individual. You are apart of a team and will act as a team. PS - Fuck that stupid packing list. They allow you to buy shit when you get there from the PX or the troop exchange. Travel light and stay high speed BUT TAKE YOUR PHONE AND A PORTABLE CHARGER. People hog the fuck outta them outlets I tell you.
You can but won’t be authorized to wear them until AIT. You’re only allowed to wear what’s issued to you and for two reasons. Allowing you to wear aftermarket boots will make other trainees feel like there’s possible favoritism for allowing you to use them because they don’t have access or the opportunity to buy them and use them like you. More importantly, the standard issue boot typically has better ankle support, which is important for a new trainee to have in order to help prevent foot/ankle injuries. Waiting to black phase of AIT will allow the 10 weeks from BCT to condition and strengthen your feet and ankles.
