I'm convinced Stratton still had a bug up his ass over Mick bringing metal into Doom 2016. I remember Mick mentioning he was given strict instructions to not use electric guitars and he kept sneaking them in and negotiating for more and more during the 2016 soundtrack. Then Mick won awards on those metal tracks proving that Stratton's orders of no electric guitars was wrong, and solidified Mick as the Doom composer. Fans demanded more metal from Mick, and Mick brought it for Eternal. He hit Stratton's ego hard and the dude went out of his way to try to ruin Mick's career over it, Stratton is a massive scumbag.

I strongly believe it is Matthew Heafy from the band 'Trivium'. He is a big enough name in the industry and in 2022, publicly petitioned to have iD contact him to work on the soundtrack for the next Doom game. I was looking if someone would be commenting this. This is indeed very possible, if it is true he did good by sending one of his signature guitars to Hugo after inviting him on his stream :) Now, I'm a bit scared that if it is the case that the OST is going to be a more generic metal soundtrack (kinda fitting for a medieval prequel game nonetheless). If so, fans are probably going to be pleased, seeing the praise for tracks like blood swamps. As I teenager, I used to be super fan of Trivium, but now I don't want them to leave this whole argent metal thing behind. I hadn't played FPS since Halo went to shit, and probably wouldn't have played Doom 2016 if I didn't get my mind blown by the likes of BFG division before even seeing some gameplay footage.

Im not saying it is bpund to be bad, but this is the same reason people preferred David Levy's music over Hulshult's in the TAG DLCs, because Hulshult troed to go for a thrash heavy OST that had no substamce behind it, completely disregarding the absolutely amazing work he did for Dusk.

I dont think it will have anything to do with nostalgia, I think the main thing is that 1.) Modern Doom invented a new genre of Metal music, while this game probably will simply give us tracks from a pre-existing style, like thrash or djent, and 2.) Modern Doom already has a pre-established sound and style to its Ardjent songs, and this sounds like its going to go in a different direction, which isnt bad per say, but when something is already established to be going in a certain direction that is already liked, and then you change that, its going to upset some people because they wanted more of what they have come to expect.

As said by the man himself, "I didn't quit Doom, I quit a toxic client" so if the newcomer is a freelance like Geofplaysguitar, remember that Mick was also a freelance, and that all the drama started from there. Rememebr that we never had a proper "Doom Eternal OST" release due to the drama cancelling everything in this regard... and that because Mick left earlier than expected, his music in Eternal feels weaker tha in the 2016 one because he simply never finished them and some random third party dude finished the mixing and mastering but there are likely less songs than there was planned to be... And in this regards, I think that if ID/Bethesda/Zenimax/Microsoft treats the newcomer well and things goes as expected, we could have a better soundtrack than Eternal's, we should just rememeber that Eternal's one was never finished, and that in the end nothing would have happened without Mick. So high hopes for the new Doom music and I'm still remembering that Mick was mistreated and that if Eternal's music isn't as good as 2016's Doom was, it's because he was prevented to put further effort. By his own self respect. So I respect Mick.

An important thing to remember is that every reveal trailer music has never made it to the final game. So this could be a track just for the trailer. There's also been a bunch of people asking Geoffplaysguitar if he's the composer. But he has been radio silent the whole time. NDA perhaps?

As someone who has worked extensively as an independent contractor in tech, who now works extensively with independent contractors as assisting capacities full-time in that world, Marty's treatment of Mick and the overall situation was not only wholly unprofessional; he deserves to be sued. It was, and IS, absolutely ridiculous to contract someone for the amount of work that went into that soundtrack and expect it done in such a ludicrously short amount of time with the contractor having hardly an idea what overall theme of the project was ultimately. A creative is always going to end up fighting at least somewhat of an uphill battle with a client, that's just the nature of things. The real work is to hopefully meet somewhere in the middle so both parties are happy and the work benefits the project as best it can. You can't even begin to accomplish that as a client if you're refusing to even try and work with your contractor and then get mad at them not meeting your deadlines. Communication wasn't really attempted. That wasn't a fuck up Mick's part, not even close. And regarding Marty's "statement", he was better off just not saying anything. There wasn't any evidence of laziness or pulling someone's leg on Mick's part. He did what was asked. He knocked it out of the PARK as usual. I still remember the claim there was a rebuttal to all of this that ended up getting swept under the rug and has never been published since. I'll let that move speak for itself. Ultimately this ending up in Mick not even being paid for his work...I don't even know if that's criminal or not. Personally I'd feel like it was a theft of services. To get bent over by a company like that and just let it slide. Bro is a more forgiving man than I, I guess. On the side, I produce music as a hobby. I'm self taught, been doing it for 17 years. Built my own studio over that span of time, costing me thousands upon thousands of dollars. This entire situation has pushed me about as far away from ever wanting to do music for a big name company as you can get, if this is apparently standard to expected from AAA studios. I'm not stubborn to how corporations can be, again I work in tech, I'm used to seeing people just be cogs in a machine, but honestly music is an such expensive passion. You do this shit because you love doing it. Equipment is not cheap, good software is only getting more expensive. The processes to create what we heard in Doom 2016's and Eternal's soundtrack are extremely complex and require huge amounts of time and experimentation to get right. Watching Mick's lecture about how he did some of the stuff he did for this music taught me new things with analog equipment I'd never even considered before. Who the fuck even thinks to use a chainsaw as an instrument to make your guitar tone heavier lol. You're listening to years of accumulated hard work and dedication to a craft with these soundtracks, and that is what paves this man's living. It makes me livid to think that a bottom line is so much more important to some people, they're willing to fuck over someone else's living and attempt to trash their reputation doing so permanently simply because someone fucked up, got called out for it and their manbaby ego couldn't handle it. It's fucking pathetic.

@@TrumpFTW2024 Have to disagree there buddy. PC DOOM and its terrible metal chiptune tracks was awful until the PS1 version came along with way better sfx and Aubrey Hodges brilliant ambient horror soundtrack. His music turned DOOM into DOOM. Mick followed this trend with a more modern and extreme take on it whilst also adding in metal. He created an unique set of sounds that became DOOM 2016 a set of sounds and ambience that set it apart. Its no wonder everyone was upset when his work was butchered for DOOM Eternal. Now with DOOM the dark ages we are back to generic metal that doesn't have character to set it apart from any other boring generic metal. It may be called the dark ages but it is still in the future and tech heavy and the music and ambience should represent that, this does not.

@@METAL1ON "Generic metal" - is what you hear in videogames like Painkiller and other 30-seconds nonsense. (or was it 10 seconds?🤣) But if you go back to the time when Metal was actually music, demanding composition skills as well as instrumental virtuosity, then a different picture will present itself. When you brush the skill-less headbanging noise aside, - there is no such thing as "generic metal". There is only mediocre performance with talentless-scribbles on staff. Microsoft/Bethesda/Zenimax/Id (acquisitions suck good lord) would be insane to focus on a new composer while there are still many die-hard fans of Mick's work who would riot at the news. Honestly shocked Microsoft haven't stepped in to resolve the Mick Gordon drama with their unlimited funds and bring him back for more work. If by the slim chance that it's mick gordon composing this soundtrack it would make sense that it does't sound as industrial as his other work because of the setting. Most of the demons aren't going to have over the top cybernetics and we are pretty much going back to the mid evil days (if it had guns). Making the music more thrashy makes more sense to me. It's obviously most likely not going to be mick gordon, but I trust that whoever it is will make a banger soundtrack. The trailer music was amazing.
