I'm 6 months in night shift as part time got in just so I can get my CDL & experience with UPS & after heading on my own. It's pretty easy once you get used to it. Just put your air pods in & stack boxes wait till you complete probation which is 3 months & then 9 for the benefits which are great. UPS > Amazon, USPS & FedEx
I'm literally doing the same thing, I'm starting next Tuesday, May 24th 2022. I'm going to put this UPS money towards getting my CDL. Man I can't wait to get on that road. 🚛
Just quit a week ago. Pros - time goes very fast as you are constantly moving. Cons - start and finish time varies everyday. - conveyor belt is a nightmare. You get a lot of heavy packages, tires, furnitures etc in the mix depending on your assignment. At the same time you have to sort out by postal codes, addresses and other labels and load truck by charts. My last day I handled almost 2000 packages, not an exaggeration. 4 trucks full and still have more packages to fill 3 trucks piled on the side. (Cyber Monday) ... My advice for starters , study the truck loading chart it makes your job easier.. You got only few seconds to put package in the truck because conveyor belt never stops.
What if you’re an unloader do you do the same with charts or only unload packages from the truck onto the conveyor belt and that’s pretty much it for unloading no charts involved?
U don’t want to that shit hell I been working there for 3 week and how his explain it it’s not like that there packages over packages they never stop and it’s fast and to much shit u have to scan them make sure they fro the right truck and then stack them up good if not it’s considere a bad load and that can course problem and sum of the driver and a pain in the ass and they want there truck in a specific way and shit and he’ll nah evey day I get out there with pain in ur body and shit
@@ricosuave721 is it really tht bad? I’m considering working there and I see a lot of people say it not tht bad some say it’s ass. I feel like if the packages were coming it at this speed it’s not that hard but if it moving a little faster I’d struggle, what happens if you miss a package?
I'm a preloader, I have four trucks at the end of the belt but now I also am responsible of another roller. It's manageable but at the end of the day there's always a big push and there's more packages, way more bags that get in the way that you need to stack and put in the cart, more packages that we're missed by preloaders at the beginning of the belt that you need to walk them back to the right truck...so it can be difficult. I've also been a helper. I enjoy it, I would like to do it more. Always be prepared, use the restroom before, bring a backpack with anything that you'd need like a flashlight 🔦, headlamp, gloves 🧤 and a snack and water. I would have applied to be a Driver but I had a stroke last year, so I'm learning as much as i can before I feel competent enough to apply.
Find a new job. The pay is shit and there is no room for improvement no matter what lies they tell you. They dont give a shit about you I promise. Yeah keep that check coming in but start looking for a new job you can do much better
One of the most unsafe environments I’ve ever worked in. Trying to find the “in” and “out” and then Sorting the blank packages and that line KEPT filling up. They threw the boxes directly behind me and I fell. No breaks for the part time shift. Just horrible
@@quaweeguy Yeah i work at ups currently newish hire not really but unloading is fucked lmao i came from fedex working there 5 years and it wasnt that bad, only good thing is i can have my phone
they need to get a computerized sorting machine where it just sorts the packages out for you near the trucks its supposed to go and all you have to do is stack them in the right spot
@@weirdfan88 I work in the small sort and literally nothing is automatic at my hub. we dump the bags, feed the belt, sort by memory, and the person bagging is the one who scans them. it's wild to me to watch videos of the auto small sort
At my hub they have that already. The belt tenders watching the belt just make sure no smalls or bulk are ok the belt but otherwise, the “sorter” is all computerized. Even small sort has the same thing.
They already do, that's why there is a printed label on each package telling the package handler which truck to load the package into. If you're talking about an automatic sorting machine, that physically moves packages into individual vans than that would be impossible with human loaders at this point in time. One package handler on a vanline is usually in charge of loading three to four vans at a time; if there was a machine or rollers in the way of the walk way then you wouldn't be able to move between the different trucks you're loading. It would also be a safety hazard because the sorters would be obstructing the walkway. The only way a machine like that would work is if there was one employee assigned to one single truck that they never left. It would be bad for productivity and a waste of money to pay employees to only load one van. You'd have to move away from human labor completelty and have machines load the package onto the shelves as well.
Damn its already one thing that you have to assort through the packages and see what truck you have to put those packages in, its another thing that they want you to do 25 per minute...they also want you to put it in the right spot in the truck? damnnnnnnnn thats some hard as demanding work.
I see why they pay UPS drivers more than FedEx because of this monstrosity 🤣 I’ve seen some gnarly FedEx videos too but I hear the average ups route handles between 180-300 stops? Earning every cent of that $38 an hour a driver makes at ups.
UPS drivers are paid more because they are actually employed by UPS (union), FedEx drivers pay varies more because they are independently contracted; not actually FedEx employees. If you look at the side of FedEx Ground delivery vans, you will see in small print the name of the contracted company the driver works for. :)
UPS can't get their story straight or maybe they're just completely dishonest. Don't ever work there or ship with them. They literally forced me to stay so late and gave NO indication of the possibility, refused legal breaks, and are refusing to pay me for the delay in my check, which legally they MUST in my state. Also, they told me my only pay options were direct deposit or their pay card. They verified my bank account, but are now refusing to direct deposit, hiding behind false claims. Yes...I'm suing.
The first thing they told us at orientation last night was that the schedule will fluctuate almost every night, frankly it doesn’t matter, they are paying good for basic labor, even if it is hard physically
@@neutralmatt4771you don’t seem to have heard anything they said, their telling you their being screwed over majorly about their pay and you completely glossed over all that smh
Probably don’t want to replace it because it’s gonna cost. Rather work with a defective slide than assist the workers by getting a new one. Just my thought, lol.
Try doing it without the stickers telling you where it goes. Used to have to memorize your trucks and look for the right addresses, then write the sequence number on the box before loading it in the right spot
Reminds me of Amazon delivery station picking boxes off the line. Sometimes I'd miss packages and they'd send ppl over (or a cool manager) to help me. They'd have me picking for 3 different aisles. I wouldn't miss too many packages until the line started to get heavy and crazy. So basically at UPS it's gonna be like picking AND stowing at Amazon?!? You gotta pick the sh*t off the line AND put it in the truck? Why not have one person picking and another one loading the truck? At Amazon delivery, we picked for a certain aisle and sit the boxes on carts in front of the aisle and the stower stowed them.
Ain’t no way! I’m not working for that chump change. People do this job in hopes of becoming a driver lol. DRIVERS GOT LIFT ALL THEM BOXES TO THATS HOW THEY GET THEM PACKAGES TO THE DOOR!
You’re right many people actually wish to be drivers but sometimes there’s no driver openings so you have to start a a package handler before you can become a driver or if you’re lucky and there are opening you can apply and become drivers right away but even then a drivers doesn’t have the easies job either , keep in mind that every trunk can carry many packages witch you have to deliver during the day that mean that if your truck is loaded to the max your shift probable won’t end until 9 or 10 pm you’ll be sore from lifting and carry and the you have to wake up early morning and repeat so then after that maybe being a package handler is not that hard as you think
Well almost 3 months later I’m still at it. Some days are harder then others. Lost almost 10 pounds. Every night is a sweaty mess. I don’t like the fact that some of the people hired can’t even lift some of the heavier boxes. You are asked if you can when you apply. They will get cut eventually. Other then that a enjoyable experience and good people to work with
And it’s over just that fast. Seasonal hiring has come to an end. Even though I broke my back I enjoyed my time working. Met some good people. Time to move on to the next thing....
Just got a job at ups. The trucks are parked inside the warehouse so i get no fresh air and there are constant gusts of hot air coming from random machinery. The place is like a jungle gym too its so easy to get lost. Easy work tho
You got the cake job, our job as loaders we take a beating from the boxes coming down our slide like a bullet and you get rammed by a Slough of boxes and it's fast pace moving over 500 + each truck of boxs into two UPS trucks and fill them up to the roof that's over 1000+ box's in two trucks, not to mention we have to scan each box and write down the destination number on the box plus make sure each box is in its numerical order from 1 to 10 so if a box has 7546 and the other box is 7443 you must make sure to keep them numbered correctly. Plus you get scolded for doing a job your supervisor tells you to do but then comes back and says why was it done this way, like really you told me to do it this way. It's a hot mess sometimes, there are no and I repeat NO TEAM PLAYERS AT UPS. Need training good luck if you can't train yourself then bye bye there's the door with UPS career. The amount of turn over is crazy at UPS I've watched at least 6 Dozen new hires within the past 2 months of me working here for UPS and only 8 of them stayed so far, it gets worse every day. Supervisors flustered everyday trying to get there bearings because the suits in upper are always on there butts so now our supervisor cant figure out a good game plan because there getting scolded for no reason. Like I said it's a hot mess.
Yea trust me I understand I’ve done both jobs well more than two actually I’ve work as a loader, loading and unloading big trucks trucks, sorting packages, loading small ups trucks etc.
Can you be part time and just do the unloader position? so basically your shift everyday only unloading packages from the trucks onto that belt until you clock out. Is that possible and how hard is an unloading packages compared to the other fields?
This job is very easy if you are physically strong , other then that it can be difficult if you are not used to picking up heavy items, but overall I get paid $18 at a fedex ground , two shifts earning almost 1k with over time , pretty easy job and good pay weekly !!
@@edman813 At least with UPS u get benefits (great healthcare/dental after 9 months, pension after 5 yrs). Also chance to get to become a driver and make that big money once u get your own route. Not easy nor quick but longterm solid option.
@@awsaid502 they told me to go home when a bunch of important HR people came down to the warehouse next day I come in they said I was terminated for job abandonment
Hey, how's the job going? I hope your doing well with it! I'm looking to apply for this position too, and I just wanna know how's it been treating you?
@@FastlaneProductions1 I'm starting next week - I believe it said up to $18/hr- how did your bruv land $25. Tyvm in advance- would greatly appreciate your insight.
@@Oooooootay1 It varies alot by where you are. In Pennsylvania, the labor shortage is really bad because young people are leaving the state in droves due to high cost of living and taxes. Where I live personally, the starting rate is closer to what you described.
Thanks for sharing. The music is too high so its hard to hear you at some points and distracting, I recommend you have it much lower next time you make a video
Why isn't the belt moving? At my center it was set at WARP SPEED. I can't push it anymore Captain (Scottie). You had to load and work as fast as they set the belt speed.
did preload for 4 years it sucked so bad lol, i was "lucky" and got the last 3 trucks on the belt....but it was a top belt so other random packages for the belt behind us always came down so made it a nightmare would always stack up and i could never get it cleared cause the belt behind us was heavy too so i was always a mess, did another year a part time belt sup made the job a bit easier, but mentally worse
@@dion3727 depends 2 usually 150 to 120 and 3 maybe 260 4 same with a bunch of bulks.. and the 5th all bulk and random inventory to bulks to a damn near SHOCKWAVE hitting you in the face in there usually 315 to 340. But it always depends. On the best etc. Been here for a month. Just wanna move up to supervision I've seen people quite on the spot Intense job not FOR EVERYONE All I can say is if you can't handle it quite You're health is more important than a few more dollars. Some loads are slow some aren't. The more you work the more they'll work you btw. I ran my mouth loading the 53 ft semi's till they realized I'm not a joke or to be harried without ever get to comfortable. Union contract says 3 trucks mandatory. Plus alot of people call off. Seniority etc all that bro. Just a fast passing job don't ever stress. If you want to stay. AT THE END OF THE DAY ITS JUST A JOB..
Yea you’ll need high top non slip boots I saw many employees get timberlands but they’re pricey and since you use them all the time they get filthy real fast so I would recommend something cheaper and easier to replace if anything
Yes you can bring you phone and even play music I with you earphones in you just have to leave one ear free in case on fire alarms or a supervisor talking to you and yes you get 3 to 4 trucks average or if it’s a slow day they can even give you 8 trucks, good luck
They did, usually they keep like 3 people as permanents when they hire seasonal, so you just gotta work hard and show up on time and they’ll give you the position
@@awsaid502 I guess oregon different was told it’s permanent job day 1. I’m going ask them transfer one closer to home since finish building and they need lots people in the time since it’s big
I just found 2 different positions, package handler and warehouse associate full-time, whats the difference between these 2? I used to work for amazon FC fufillment center maybe its sorta like that?
Package handler you'll work part time and more than likely be loading or unloading something. Warehouse associate I'm assuming it's just your basic warehouse position and you'll use PIT equipment based of the description for that one
So you can just casually walk around looking for packages while playing with your phone? This would get you fired at most jobs, and also made fun of for taking video in portrait mode.
How much is pay i use to work at fedex before it's hard work somdays you leave home early or late the only thing I hate is you don't even get like a 15 minute break or so.
@@dubb9020 you should get a break if you're working more than 5 hours they usually give breaks someone who works full-time but no one actually works full-time usually during peek season.
Sometimes but you can as for help if it’s too heavy normally I won’t be more than 70 pounds and yes depending on your roll your load unload or sort packages, it’s all considered the package handler position.
Probably not. Start times vary based on expected volume for that week, something that management will figure out a week prior. You could work anywhere between 4 hours to 9 a day or anything in between, just from the nature of the job and the demand. I'd just apply and ask them when you get there since everywhere is different. Wouldn't hurt to try.
@@Mjcatsnco theres not heavy lifting, I'm getting paid 19.69 (for overnights) and you're partnered with people to do routes so the work isnt too hard. USPS is hard to get into but it's pretty easy if you're a mail processing clerk at the plant
Not sure but depending on which belt you are and how many trucks you have, it moves fast enough so that you gotta be running all the time and still is not enough. yellow belt is the hardest
I started my first day on the floor today at ups and the belt doesn’t move fast , you’ll get caught up sometimes so you’ll miss some packages but if the people you work with are nice then they’ll help you out and bring it back to you if they see it , it’s slow enough for you to scan and get the boxes off and put it away before more come
Yes all packages have a code usually 4 letter the first 4 letter of the delivery drivers name also printed on the trucks rear door so you match the package with the truck
can u plz respond what if im sorting the packages and i don’t get to other packages that are moving on the treadmill thing ? like will there be consequences
Well not really but you’ll need to stay u till you finish all your packages even if everyone leaves nice the packages go by someone collects them and bring them back at the end of the shift they go on the belt again so you gotta wait for all your packages to come back around and load them before you clock out
You might need a dolly the size of the truck if you putting the same amount of packages to fill a truck in it also I feel like that would take way more time but I don’t know if you’ve work at ups and that methods works for you I’ll give it a try
Oh no this isn’t easy this is a beast the belt isn’t even moving imagine it moving and your truck is full of packages already and guess what there more packages coming
Brian Pulido Yoo, I have an interview tomorrow along with a facility tour for UPS Part time Package Handler. Any tips and what to expect for this interview and going forward ?
Mad Cap well I left because the pay was not that good and the hours weren’t I either to be honest it was hard work, but consider yourself hired already and get ready to work hard loading up two trucks for 4-5 hours
