I've read countless taegwondo books, and I know they'd based the history on the WTF's claims. Besides, some TGD organizations admit about its karate roots.

Why is everyone trolling in the comments and massed disliked this video for. I know this outdated. People makes mistakes and they want it to avoid their origins because they don't want to go through that because it is too soon to explain according to some sources. WTF( World Taekwondo Federation) has claimed that TKD is Korean traditional martial art which holds about 2000years of history. But the thing is TKd is korean modern day martial art which it's rooted under Karate, where the history is about 60years. TKD was created back in late 1940's by many Korean Karate Masters. This is why TKD and Karate have so many similarities. If you need more explanation leave feed back.

What I used was an intellectual insult, not racist, and I know taegwondo came from karate since I read a lot of sites on the history.

Some of taekwondo and karate techniques is from sikaran martial arts.

Myth. Go look at the ITF hyungs then Look up Taekkyon forms/hyungs and tell me what techniques made it into ITF TKD.......They even kick differently.

from a 2nd dan wtf blackbelt...tkd is not old its from shotokan karate but koreans are very proud too proud so they made changes bad changes made the art more of a show with kicks just like they changed the gi to a v-neck but if you see old videos it shows the gi same as karate most tkd kicks are bs for street use but some are good like back kicks side kicks axe kicks good thing about tkd is that it helps you be fast with kicks so if you add thai kicks and boxing it can be a really good art

@zzang86 There's nothing wrong with having 65years of history. It doesn't have to be a ancient/traditional to be a good martial art. TKD should take a pride over how fast it have spread over the world and distinct itself from it from other types of martial art. TKD doesn't have anything got to do with Takkyeon. It's mere copy of Karate. NOW,TKD is totally something else.

Not true. Even though there are millions of MA in China, I can't think of one that has any similarities with Taekkyon.

Traditional MA of Korea = Copy-do (Taekwondo, Tang soo do, Hapkido, Kumdo, etc.)

I study Taekkyon in Daegu, South Korea with the KTA. Look up Taekkyon Forms and compare them to the ITF/WTF forms.......Stances,Movement,Blocks,Sweeps,Throws and strikes are all done differently and with dance like quality...........TKD did not come from us, look up Taekkyon and hear the last taekkyon master DONG SUK KI explain the BS that TKD claims.......We look nothing a like other then being kicking based.

They only thing they do is give taekwondo a bad name since they don't use punches and low kicks, just like in karate and the ITF. "2000 years old martial art" becomes an Olympic sport? Wow, what a downgrade. I have many friends who are TKD blackbelt. Interestingly, when being asked to perform defense against hook punch, elbow and knee strikes and foot stomps, they are unable to defend. Of course, in its 2000 years old of history TKD has never encounter any of the attacks I metioned above because of...... they did not generate points.
