I agree, great video btw! What I gotta say though is, that the guy has a point. I say this, because I tried. And I really recommed trying both band styles. I've put an 11 mill lead ball cleanly through a jack rabbit, didnt even twich. This isnt really about either tube or flat, its about the best solution for different occasions. In my opionion: Tubes for long hunting trips, with a need of high endurance and heavy ammo, Flatbands more for high efficiency and penetration power. Cheers guys

Always but always I’ve been a fan of the catapult, (slingshot to you) or gadder to me, I can remember the first living thing I shot with one. I think it was more a surprise to me that I hit it. I was only a kid 10-ish and with an uneven stone I hit a blackbird, this was in the 60s I felt so bad, I picked it up in my hands and carried it across the field telling it I was going to make it better, it died in my hands. I cried and didn’t pick my gadder up for weeks. I got better with it and moved onto rats and tip gulls as my quarry I had so much fun blasting them. (When I connected of course, now I’m dropping to bits and not very nibble but I still have a catapult or two I’ve made and I’ve made my grandson one too

I remember at my grandpas house he had these little mini cannonballs made out of lead that he actually shot out of a mini cannon back before the city took about 60 acres of land from them and they worked super good for slingshotting I killed rabbits and squirrels and I even killed a big groundhog that my grandma had been trying to get rid of for weeks it was awesome

Mr. Parker, you da man - I love slingshots and have shot myself for years and know just how deadly they can be IN the RIGHT HANDS, it takes time and pratice, but yes it can be done - when one steps outside the box (comfort zone) you will always get hit with slack, but then thats what it takes to ENDURE - best wishes

The producer of the video misspoke, a sabot is a jacket or patch of sorts that wraps around a conical bullet. A sabot is used to protect a conical bullet from the actual bore of a firearm or to fill displacement in a bore (acting to take up space). For example: sabots are sometimes used in inline muzzleloading rifles to capture a bullet while in the bore before being fired.

"Once you kill something whether a rabbit, bird or squirrel with a slingshot; you're hooked." This is very true, I killed my first animal when I was 6 and 1/2 to 7 years old as a kid with a classic resortera and some gravel rocks. After I killed that critter I never stopped hunting with my slingshots. There is nothing more rewarding than harvesting game with a slingshot, great video. Nico

A really good and cheap ammo I found was pastry weights they are little ceramic balls and are about £1 for 100 ($2?) compared to £5 for 100 steel ball bearings

my brother is big on sling shot hunting. He has shot birds, static and flying, targets, and turtles......performance of the sling shot based on the strength of the bands.......he was able to send a 45 caliber lead ball a full 1/2 mile distance. So, deer COULD be wounded with his set-up. Head shots are definitely to be preferred, but based upon actual set-up, wounding is possible. He always says, that with practice, sling shots are as accurate and as effective as a rifle........His assessment, not mine......I haven't practised that much......but I CAN say, without hesitation that sling shots are viable SHTF weaponry.

That was very good. Lots of interesting way to think into it also. Thanks much. I'm just gonna get started when my slingshot and ammo arrive. 60 years old and I've never even had one. Time I have to think about eating city pigeons or such, and defence, if virus and supply lines get extremely bad. Wish I'd have bought that 5/8 now. Will get some. Thx, Madison.

Try this: .68 lead ball, with two perpendicular splits. The splits should be slightly more than halfway through. If the ball were a globe, one split would be the equator bisecting the Pacific Ocean, while the other split would be the Prime Meridian just past the poles. Shoot that into your pine board and see what happens.

I agree with every thing you have said I have bin shooting flat bands for about 8 years and they just don't last I don't deep draw I have a 33 inch draw and they only last about 70 shots but I have taken a lot of game with a 50 cal lead ball I live in England so we don't have the game that you have in the US
@goodtimes616
@goodtimes616 11 лет назад
you can get way more power with flatbands ie a very managable 310 fps with 285 grains full butterfly but it's true, they dont last long, maybe 70-100 shots or so. However, if you plan to go hunting, you should be able to get what you need with one bandset no? i mean if you cant, you should spend more time practicing first. I plan to get tubes for my target shooter though. The slinshot mentioned above would clear through dense 3/4" plywood at 15 ft away and still end up going through my wall.

As a child I used homemade staples from cut pieces of balling wire for hunting birds. I have killed many a quail with them and a few squirrels, rabbits and a lot of crows. Just cut a 1 in. piece of baling wire and bend it into a vee. It flies true, is cheap and will cut right through a small animal or bird!

What a joke people arguing with a man who is 60 and used slingshots before thera-bands even existed lol Who cares how special thera bands are? Slingshots pre -existed therapy bands. Tubes can last you two years use FOR HUNTING! Not sitting down on the pc at a big forum or shooting cans in your backyard . Or telling a man with 50 plus years experience with slingshots that he's wrong lol My pop who is 63 will use a tube resortera for 2 years and kill his share of small game in that time. But therapy bands are better lol OK.. Keep up the good work guys..

Madison I appreciate the instruction on using a slingshot. It was your article in Backwoodsman that got me into hunting slingshots in the first place. I also really enjoy the content from Madison and Bobby. In regards to the versatility of the slingshot can you and if so could you show using it for arrows and a spear. Also I still want a review on the parang you are carrying.

I like the versatile slingshot. Expedient silent ammo could be a S&W 40 cal. Try a few Carbide Cutting bits from the machine shop. I would think 3/4 oz steel bullet sinkers might work to as the aerodynamics stabilizes flight path so they hit point first applying maximum psi. Also, 3/4" to 1" Grade 8 Hex Nuts have a Rockwell Hardness of C26 to C34. BTW - 1 X board is 3/4" finished thickness. Army Lethality standard is penetration of 3/4" plywood. Happy hunting.

Cattys sure are great fun for hunting or target shooting. Mr. Parker is well practiced and knows what he's doing but I must say he should be wearing eye protection. His catty is a biggen. Most modern cattys are far more compact and just as powerful. There are many places to buy em, not taking anything away from Mr. Parker but I really love MasterBillHays, Nathan Masters (flippinout), in UK, Gamekeeper John (OLDMANSBALLBAG) and many others. I make to order myself. Great vid Thanks Mr. Parker

Good advice also Madison eluded to it that u can't substitute accuracy for power and there's also your shooting style to take into account. Triple theraband gold bands would have no doubt gone straight thru that wood but that's too heavy a draw for most ppl to shoot accurately, I think doubles would have more power than the slingshot in the vid as well. If u got a chrony u cud test the speeds of each?

Shooting at a deer is a hell of a decision .Certainly I would never take that shot unless I HAD to. Even in experienced hands the risk of injuring and causing suffering to an animal unnecessarily is high.I'm sure that you agree. I would hate some child or gung ho adult to go out and try to emulate you Madison without the level of expertise required. Interesting video and some great insight into the impact of the big rounds from the catapult. All the best guys and enjoy watching these videos a lot

Ok, just to be clear in case I didn't quite catch it ~ you're saying acquire the target BEFORE draw? I jest... Seriously though very good video, lots of good info. I was going to ask, "Is he a real UDT/Seal instructor?" But he would not be wearing that shirt if he hadn't earned it. More evidence that just about anything in a Seal's hands can become very deadly. Impressive display. I look forward to the day I can be confident enough to take a head shot at a big buck. Thank you Mr. Parker, I'll be watching more of your stuff!!

Need to add. Tapered bands are more effective for smaller ammo, and straight bands better for larger ammo. Check out Bill Hays's videos. Second, latex is sensitive to the environment. If you want longer life from your bands or tubes, use Armor All. it protects your bands from UV and etc. Testing shows 3 times the life with Armor All compared to without......... just saying.......

Would have to be lead I think. Steel can be faster but lead imparts more energy on impact which is what you want for clean kill shots i.e. hunting. I use tyer weights I find at or around tyer joints but I dont bother melting them down, just cut 'em to size with hammer and chisel and shoot 'em as is. They seem to fly just as well as round shit does, are cheeper (free) and far less hastle than moulded balls. Your only going to shoot 'em off and loose 'em anyway. Well thats just what I do

I use a heavy duty sling shot with a 5/8 steel ball to scare deer out of my Veg patch. Trust me a shot on the rump, and that deer jumps about three feet and takes off. That’s all I want out of my sling shot, to chase deer out of the Veg patch. Average distance about 45 to sixty feet. We are overrun with Deer, the coyotes will run like hell with a shot on the hind quarter.

The ONLY advantage of tubes is the longevity really.. You get WAY more power (no opinion --> measured facts) with flat bands EVEN with same size or bigger ammo. Thats simple physics & facts. But I admit for a survival situation I'd take tubes other than that and even for normal hunting bands every single time of course. Got one slingshot with tubes and one with few bands always with me in my backpack but most of the time I use double or tripple bands and get up to 200 good shots with them. Also I can change the band in less than a minute with my slingshot. ;) (don't mean to be rude and sorry for my english btw)

+Berserk Flatbands fucking break in 5 mins, so they won't do you any good in the field. $3 yellow Daisy tubes have been tested within 11 fps of TBG with the same ammo. Lose a touch of speed, gain a ton of durability, save hours of time.
