A lot of children have fluids in the ears as a problem and a cause for their speech and language delay. The technical term for fluids in the ears is Otitis media. The reason why children tend to have fluids trapped in the middle ears is because of the anatomy of a child's face. The anatomy of the face of a child is that their nose is almost at the same level as the ear. So if there is ever any congestion as a result of cold, the fluid that comes as a result of the congestion, does not drain as properly.

Good video. My boy had ear infection when he was a toddler. It's completed cleared now but his speech is delayed. Pls what needs to be done now? Thank you

Hello, thank you for your inquiry. You can have your son evaluated by a speech therapist. If you are based in Nairobi, Kenya, you can bring him to our clinic for an initial evaluation.

Hi mam my son is speech delay and have ear infection and it is getting clear after taking antibiotics but after sometime it come again

It appears his ear infections are chronic and may need alternate intervention to just antibiotics. Has he had a hearing test done? Kindly refer to the *video* on my channel called, "What you need to know about hearing tests", to familiarise yourself with the different types of hearing tests and why you should have your son do one (tympanometry preferably, but additional PTA also a good call). Then, refer to an ENT for management of his ear infections. The *video*, "What is the cause of fluid in the ear (Otitis Media)", explains the connection between ear infections and speech and language delays. Your son may benefit from having grommets inserted. Speech Therapy Totos we did that test which u r saying and we got fluid in his middle ear and doctor told us to use naesal spray for a month we r using but can u suggest some other way to us which will be helpful

@@namishjummal1848 Here are some of my suggestions: - Ensure the child is dry and warm most times - Minimise re-infections - Avoid exposure to allergens - Offer nasal steaming with warm/cool water with or without eucalyptus, etc. - Explore whether the use of a room vapouriser or humidifier
