What is the Difference in the KJV and KJ21?

I have heard many say that they would readily move to a lightly updated KJV with only a slight revision to the archaic wording. When one was offered almost 30 years ago, why didn't the church move to it then?

I am really enjoying this 21st Century King James. I am really sad to hear that they have stopped publishing this as I would love this text in larger print and more consistent ink. I find this much easier to read and understand than the 1769 KJV. I really hope that someone brings this text to app form again and maybe a publisher could also take it up.

Pastor Scott, thank you for the clarification. I had never heard of the KJ21 either. Fortunately I have multiple KJV bibles one dating back to the early 1930's in very good condition. My favorite cross reference KJV is from the 80's and falling apart. They just don't bind them like they used to. Keep up the grest videos brother. -your brother in Christ Jesus, Robert. Acts 20:28 KJV - Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

Thank you for this video! I've been researching different bible translations last few days with the intention to find the right bible for me before I'd buy one, and was really interested in the KJ21. I love the poetic words such as "thee, thine, thy...etc" but was afraid it'd be hard to understand other archaic words that are present in the KJV. KJ21 seemed to be the version for me due to updating most words while retaining some and keeping true to the KJV, but the lack of availability did worry me. I've been comparing different verses amond many translations like KJV, NKJV, ESV, ASV, NIV.... and after all the running away from the KJV I ended up ordering the KJV. It's a version that has survived centuries and many attempts of change and modernization, yet it's still here. And will give an opportunity to learn some new (old) words as well. At this point one starts to wonder wasn't it the Holy Spirit that guided me towards the KJV in the end?

Greetings: The principles you adduce from this failed attempt are very useful for any future attempts. I think it might help to have an edition of the KJV with notes explaining certain things. Indeed, you yourself explain them very well. But who would comprise an international, inter-denominational authority to do it? The Western Church updated the Nicene Creed by adding "filioque". Theologically correct, but not from an ecumenical council. Caused strife. But at present, having a translation based on MT and TR, like Young's Literal Translation, with you as a study aid, might serve. ............ The Lord be with you! :--}>

Hey Pastor Scott, quick question, how do you feel about red letter KJV Bibles? I ask because I know there is some debate as to whether it is the Father or the Son talking in Revelation 1, yet it is written in red, showing that it appears the Son is talking. What are your thoughts? (I believe it was Revelation 1)
@PastorScottIngram

I believe they are helpful but not authoritative. The perform a function similar to chapters and verse numbers. They are helpful but not inspired of God.
@brittanygreen
@brittanygreen Год назад
So, basically, they insulted the intelligence of their readers by varying font, and made defined things in the KJV, thereby rendering their version obsolete.
@PastorScottIngram
@PastorScottIngram Год назад
The font was definitely horrible, but I believe the main reason to be that the people of God were not led by the Spirit of God to accept it. It seems this is the case for many English bible translations.

@@PastorScottIngram It is a MUCH more faithful translation of God's Word than the appalling NAB/NABRE translation, which is the Bible translation all US Catholic churches must use for preaching (unless your diocese or parish gets permission to use another translation.) I believe the Third Millennium Bible does an excellent job making the KJV more instantly understandable without completely changing the translation like the NKJV did. By the way, did you know there is now a King James Version, Catholic Edition? It is the King James Bible with the deueterocanon/apocrypha contained within the Old Testament according to the RCC canon.

The Third Mill version has none of the problems you talk about. I do see font changes in the NT with the words of Christ in bold print. maybe there is a reason why this older version never had an impact.The 3rd came out in 1998.

@WgB5
@WgB5 Год назад
@@PastorScottIngram I do not have the 21, I saw it as a waste of time. I got the 3rd Mill version. And yes, like the KJV 1611, which this book claims to mimic, it has the apocrypha. They used the same version as the 1611 while the Orthodox bible followed the Augustine OT. I suspect that most modern bibles use a more modern CT, and skip the Apocrypha. The Common English Bible is a "gender neutral" mess. I think that Episcopalians use this strange version with the apocrypha, while the Methodist probably use this without the extra literature.

Use a version you can understand. God wants YOU to UNDERSTAND His Word. If you really want to use the KJV, fine, but use another version first so you actually understand what the beautiful ancient KJV is trying to say. The beautiful KJV is 400+ years old and contains words and phrases people don't understand anymore because the words aren't used anymore, OR worse, the words have changed meaning and we THINK we know what the words mean but actually don't.

What man beguiled thee to believe the Lord declared and wrote his words in the Greek language? Publish the scripture precept lines to prove such a lie. Thy understanding is full of thee putting thy trust in the fleshly chronicles of man. Jeremiah 17:5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

So, you think your King James Bible is the perfect word of God. Well, can you tell in 1 Thess 4:15&17 that the word “we” is in fact the always expressed-emphatically first-person personal pronoun? I mean, if you cannot determine that by looking at the KJV English text, then it is not perfect! But it's very clear in the Greek from which the KJV was translated! AND! It makes a huge difference in how it is interpreted. That word is “eg-o'” in the Strong's with the number [1473]. When it is used it is always emphatic, but our English translations do not put it in caps and bold print in order that we get that. This word is in 1 Thess 4:15&17. It should be V15 “For we say this to you by the word of the Lord, that “WE-“ the ones living, the ones remaining until the coming of the Lord- will in-no-way precede the ones having fallen asleep.” V17 “ Then “WE-“ the ones living, the ones remaining- will be snatched-up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we shall always be with the Lord.” Those two “WE's” are emphatic. Paul said it TWICE! Prof Alpheus Crosby, in his 1850 book, “The Second Advent,” says that these two verses are particularly emphatically strong! And he taught Greek in THREE colleges! Dartmouth was one of them. And a seminary too. A professor of Greek is to be listened to. He said in his book: “In these clauses the pronoun is expressed in the original; so that, according to a familiar law of the Greek language, it must be emphatic and used in marked contradistinction. The form of expression in 1 Thess iv:15,17 is peculiarly strong.” Those two “WEs” mean that Paul was saying that those living breathing people hearing his letter read aloud to THEM were the ones to experience the coming of the Lord. Prof. Crosby; “That is precisely how they would have understood Paul. Did they have any reason, of course not, to understand it differently?” Here is where your King James Bible comes up wanting in being the “perfect word of God. It does not convey the subtle nuances of the Greek in every case. Hence, it is not as good as the original Greek.

Did you watch the video? I never said any of that. I believe the Hebrew and Greek is inspired and that the KJV is the most exact translation of the traditional text which does not cut so much away from the Word of God. The book of the LORD'S holy scriptures cannot be changed, nor altered, and certainly cannot be translated. Search the scriptures for these words and learn what was, what is, and what can be translated: 2 Samuel 3:10 To translate the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beer-sheba. Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. Colossians 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Isaiah 46: [9] Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, [10] Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: Acts 20:27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Psalm 145:18 The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. Zephaniah 3:9 For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent. Genesis 4: [25] And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. [26] And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD. Deuteronomy 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. Revelation 22: [18] For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: [19] And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. Psalm 89:34 My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. Psalm 12: [6] The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. [7] Thou shalt keep them, O LORD thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. 1 Peter 4:11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. Proverbs 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. Matthew 6:23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! Proverbs 30: [5] Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. [6] Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. 1 Timothy 6: [3] If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; [4] He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, [5] Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

To use the word (archaic) for the pure words of the LORD is to be guilty of blasphemy! John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Isaiah 30: [1] Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin: [2] That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! [3] Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion. 1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. Proverbs 22: [2] Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, [21] That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee? Psalm 89:34 My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 2 Samuel 23:2 The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue. Mark 3:28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: [29] But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: [30] Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

Archaic is simply meaning that we don't use those English words anymore and they are not instantly recognizable today. To tell the facts about something is in no way blasphemous.
