I’m gonna have to read a book about the heaven and hell view of the Orthodox Church because I’m still being trained by my spiritual father and others to understand Orthodoxy. I’m a former Pentecostal.

Another one, I've been running across what going on if I may ask, right now I'm with them for 8 years, Let me explain, first I grew up going to different churches events minus uh um, and never felt uncomfortable like I do now, I've been doing the Orthodox thing for over 20 years without anyone's help, what I meant by another one it seems like they're leaving in droves that I've have run across just in the last few years here.

@@local.albanian.6967 There is fire in hell. It’s not a parable. It’s real. Unlike the western church, we believe God has his presence in heaven and hell because it’s an eternity. That makes sense because Satan’s gonna be thrown to the Lake of Fire for all of eternity. It’s hard to understand that because a lot people just ask “Why doesn’t God just wipe him out of existence?” God only knows...

The view of burning in Hell is so ingrained into the Western Christian's mind, that it must be impossible to think of hell in any other way, such as one's distance from God (the view of St John of Damascus).
@shivabreathes
@shivabreathes День назад
Yes, the view of hell as “a place one creates for oneself” makes a lot more sense than an angry and sadistic God casting sinners into a lake of fire, although that did conveniently work well as a tool of social control by the Western church for centuries. Universal salvation also does not make sense because it in effect denies the role of human free will. If the human being was created to have free will then he also will need to experience the consequences of his choices (both good and bad).

There can be no separation from God because God supports and maintains existence. To be separated from God is to not exist, to be annihilated. God won't annihilate His creation, out of love and it being "good", but He will torment it for all eternity?

Is there any chance of someone changing their mind post mortem? Like Maximus the Confessor believed that Jesus would free our will. Origen wasn't the only one to believe Apokatastasis. Gregory of Nyssa, who is considered the flower of Orthodoxy, was also a universalist

I don't see why not. "Every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord" Also, God resurrects those who are not in heaven from the grave, to Judge them based off their works and to see who's name is in the book of life. It says hell is cast into the lake of fire, but then proceeds after to say that all who were not found in the Book of life were cast in afterwards. It doesn't say that everyone who was in hell was subsequently not in the book of life, so I think it's possible that some people will have repented post mortem and be in the Book of Life. Now, whether or not this includes those who are not, to get a 3rd chance to repent in the lake of fire, or if they're destroyed. Well that I don't know. But God will reconcile to him all things. So that could mean all things that remain, or even that he could remake those who were destroyed in the lake of fire. Either way, I think the concept of "By then it will be too late" in reference to all tounges confessing is a man made assumption. Because the Bible says that nobody can Say "Jesus is Lord" except by the Holy Spirit. So can I say for certain that people can repent post mortem? Technically no, but I think there's enough Biblical evidence to suggest it's possible.

1:07 What does the Orthodox Church think of Hell? 1:34 Most people think of Hell in 1 way. Orthodoxy has 4 ideas or beliefs about hell. - Christ is a Savior 2:40 1. Hell is a place of eternal torment, "The Lake of Fire" 2. Anguish, Pain, and Annihilation. 3. A Place of Separation From God. 4:25 4. Origen's "Everyone Is Saved Theory" The Universality of Redemption and The Final Restoration of All, even Satan. _Apokatastosis_ IS REJECTED BY The Orthodox Church. 5:54 Where does that leave us? 6:57 You have placed yourself away From God. 7:23 We cannot accept Universal Salvation, we cannot accept Non-Existence. 8:02 "Those who I've been given, can't be taken from my hand." 8:35 Freely rejecting God is Hell for those who reject God.

Origen's theory was rejected by the Orthodox Church. That is supposed to be consequential? Remember, the teachings of Jesus and the Apostles were also rejected by religious authorities. I'm not trying to equate universalism with the teachings of Jesus. I'm just pointing out that religious leaders have CERTAINLY been wrong before.

The scholarship regarding Origen shifted many years ago. Scholars almost unanimously affirm that the anathemas against Origen were a later illegitimate addition by Emperor Justinian. So no, he was not "condemned" by any council. In fact Origen was never even discussed by the council. The oldest records of the council make it clear that those 15 anathemas were never even discussed by the bishops, let alone ratified or published. Plus if if was universalism that was specifically being contested then Gregory of Nyssa would have been condemned a heretic at some point too, but instead he was declared "Father of the Fathers" by the 7th ecumenical council. He was more of a Universalist that Origen ever was. This is just irresponsible preaching.

Where is the teaching of the scriptures in these services? Why is not the Bible taught? The Bible said God would send us pastors after his own heart which shall feed us with knowledge and understanding. That's the word of God. God's word is spirit in life. Your words are not. I can't find any of these churches that teach the scriptures. What is up with these Orthodox churches?

I’m sorry, but the freewill excuse is moral & logical gibberish. The human will is severely handicapped by a disease (sin) that none of us choose to inherit. The whole concept of divine judgement makes no sense because a being who is inherently good could never use their freewill for evil (Christ, for example). Thus, final judgement is not people being condemned for their choices, but for their nature. If God were to destroy sin from the human heart, every last one of us would stop abusing our freewill by rejecting him. Hell would be an impossibility. Apokatastasis is genuinely the only eschatology that makes sense when all of the doctrine in the Bible are put together. Origen knew what he was talking about.

Sara, sin is not part of human nature, it's a proclivity that we get from Adam. Repentance from sin is cohesive with human nature: sin itself isn't. Sin has no ontological existence at all.

@@CHURCHISAWESUM It most definitely is, we are born inherently sinful, attracted to and plagued by sin. From the earliest days of our lives, we have a sinful nature, and we will sin every single day, whether the sin is unintentional, or done so deliberately, as we cannot help it.

@Southlander1000 2 года назад
@@richardanthony8297 The Orthodox Church canonized Scripture. Kinda hard to promote what one doesn't believe. Protestants make arguments like this because they're separated from the Church and it's teachings. Scripture is not something you get to pick and choose what you believe in. It's part of a package that includes ALL of Sacred Tradition: Scripture, the liturgy and prayers of the Church, the writings of the Fathers, the Councils, etc. You don't get to isolate Scripture out. That is the fruit of disbelief.
