About Nicholeen Peck
========================
Despite your best efforts at raising children, is your family dysfunctional? Do your children set the rules and have control of your home instead of you? Are you looking for parenting skills that will help you create a united, happy family?
Then meet Nicholeen Peck, one of the world’s most effective parenting experts. Whether you want to fix child behavioral issues, create more unity in the home, or simply strengthen your family relationships, her proven system - Teaching Self-Government - can help you turn chaos into calm.
"People are starving for help to save their families," says Nicholeen.
Since 1999, her seminars, workshops, one-on-one training sessions, parenting videos and books have helped thousands of families worldwide regain peace, be happy and maintain unity in their home. The secret? Learning how to use effective family systems based on parenting that’s deliberate and pro-active (instead of reactive). It all starts with the principles of self-government. If you’re a family of faith, you’ll especially love how your faith and values can be woven into her parenting system.
In 2009, Nicholeen and her husband starred in the BBC reality TV show, “The World’s Strictest Parents” (watch here: bit.do/StrictestParents). She became an overnight sensation by turning around two out-of-control teenagers from England after just one week - without shouting, threats or manipulation. Her amazing success comes from the positive parenting techniques of using calmness, effective communication and principles of self-government.

The part about saying in my heart, "I love you, i love you, it's okay you can be calm"...wow that was huge, brought tears bcs i realize I've been so defensive bcs my pre-teen's attitude daily reminds me of being bullied. Thank you so much for sharing!

I love this, but I wish there were examples of this playing out. I have a hard time listening to this without an example. As in, "Johnny decided not to do the dishes when he was told to. So...etc. Etc. Etc. First, I would tell Johnny..."

Hi Brittany! Thank you! Here's a link to one of my older videos where I role play the Rule of 3 with my daughter, Paije. The Rule of 3 role play begins at 43:54. Hopefully you'll be able to understand the flow of it from seeing it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WuQavUWnjOE.html

Hello there I have a 4 year old. And I want to know how to effectively do a time out when they will not stay in timeout ? So running away , slamming doors , yelling, screaming, throwing things, laughing etc. I have listened to the tool kit videos and this is still unclear. All help is accepted please 🙏 Thanks in advance

Great question! In a nutshell, you'll need to: 1. Role play how going to the calm down spot should go and what's expected. 2. Explain what you plan to do if they choose not to stay there on they're own (hold them in the calm down spot calmly, but firmly). 3. Be consistent with what you've explained and stick to it!

@@TeachingSelfGovernment Thank you so much for your response . So I’ve listened to another one of your videos that you don’t do time outs with self government? So it’s the calm down corner instead? So I role play and explain the process before it even happens so she understands this will be the result and just wait with her firmly but gently till she stays there till she’s calm but not for a set time? Am I understanding this correctly?

I’m looking at your materials and I’m wondering why your poster says time out when you’ve said you don’t teach time out but you do a calm down place/ trigger area? I’m enjoying your information Ty

You are so right! I don't know if I even noticed that until now! I will meet with the people I need to to see what we want to do about that. Thank you for pointing it out!

What do you do if they are screaming over the top of your voice, running away and plugging their ears (6 year old) while you’re trying to do the rule of 3?
@TeachingSelfGovernment
@TeachingSelfGovernment 3 года назад
Well, when you pre-teach the skill before it's ever used, you have to role play practice it and you have to explain that if they walk away when you are talking to them, they are choosing to earn three negative consequences associated with the Rule of Three. Be sure to use this skill in conjunction with the whole program for best results. Also, at age 6 you might consider doing what I call, "The modified Rule of Three," unless the child is already used to the full version. If you need more help on implementation the best place to find help is this course. teachingselfgovernment.com/store/
